  • Well-kept caravan park five minutes’ drive from Doune in Stirlingshire
  • Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park also five minutes’ drive
  • Well-behaved dogs welcome; a small convenience store next door
Set in the spectacular Stirlingshire countryside, Ashmill Caravan Park has plenty of level, well-kept pitches and space for kids to play games. It’s five minutes’ drive from the village of Doune and its austere castle, and is surrounded by pleasant walks along the River Teith. Well-behaved dogs (on leads around the pitches, please) are welcome to come and join in all the fun. Another big plus of Ashmill Caravan Park is its proximity to Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park (five minutes’ drive), one of the best zoos in Scotland. There’s a wealth of other things to see and do nearby too, including Stirling Castle (10 minutes) and the eastern edge of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park (also 10 minutes). On-site facilities include a clean, modern and fully accessible toilet block, which has heating to keep everybody warm in the chillier months. Handy local amenities include a shop and filling station almost next door to the site, and close proximity to the motorway network means that both Glasgow and Edinburgh can be reached within the hour.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely little site on A84, ideal for our stopover back home, although there was plenty to do in the surrounding area for anyone wanting a longer stop.

Clean facilities, friendly owner. Nice walk into Doune for food at the hotel.
There is a footpath but the road is quite busy so care needed if walking with children.

Disliked Road noise could be a problem for some

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked It was lovely and very clean site the staff were very friendly. There's some nice walks and there's a fuel station with a shop nextdoor everything is well posted the fresh water point waste etc... there's a facility toilets and a shower in the ladies which is very clean and a shed for washing the dishes and a gathering point I'm very impressed with the site and i will be back again in the near future

Disliked My only complaint and it wasn't really an issue but no WiFi available. And the shed for the dish washing is locked after 10.30pm

Local attractions

The kids will make sure Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park (five minutes’ drive) is first stop on the sightseeing schedule; here you can spot the Big 5 African animals, watch birds of prey flying displays and let youngsters loose in the adventure playground. If the weather is good, a Loch Katrine cruise on the vintage steamship ‘Sir Walter Scott’ (35 minutes) might be next on the agenda. You can also take a trip on the rotating boat lift at the Falkirk Wheel (half an hour), and be sure to stop by The Kelpies, two gigantic metal sculptures of horses’ heads that soar over the site – they look equally spectacular lit up at night. Inject a little Scottish history into your holiday mix with a guided tour of Stirling Castle (10 minutes), The Battle of Bannockburn Visitor Centre and the landmark Wallace Monument (both 20 minutes). However, if you’d rather be out hiking or cycling in stunning loch-and-glen country, make straight for Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park (10 minutes).
