  • Well-kept caravan park five minutes’ drive from Doune in Stirlingshire
  • Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park also five minutes’ drive
  • Well-behaved dogs welcome; a small convenience store next door
Set in the spectacular Stirlingshire countryside, Ashmill Caravan Park has plenty of level, well-kept pitches and space for kids to play games. It’s five minutes’ drive from the village of Doune and its austere castle, and is surrounded by pleasant walks along the River Teith. Well-behaved dogs (on leads around the pitches, please) are welcome to come and join in all the fun. Another big plus of Ashmill Caravan Park is its proximity to Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park (five minutes’ drive), one of the best zoos in Scotland. There’s a wealth of other things to see and do nearby too, including Stirling Castle (10 minutes) and the eastern edge of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park (also 10 minutes). On-site facilities include a clean, modern and fully accessible toilet block, which has heating to keep everybody warm in the chillier months. Handy local amenities include a shop and filling station almost next door to the site, and close proximity to the motorway network means that both Glasgow and Edinburgh can be reached within the hour.

What customers say

This small, friendly, clean campsite boasts well-kept facilities and level pitches. Great for stopovers with easy access to local services and attractions, including Doune village. While most found it peaceful, some noted road noise. Occasional shower queues and no Wi-Fi were minor points.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Great place to stay close to all that you have planned to do.
The owners are really friendly and it was no bother showing us where all the facilities are on the site and happy to tell you attractions in and around Doune.

Disliked Nothing to dislike, we went when the temperature was below zero and the hook-up was 16amp so we had no issues with getting our van nice and toasty warm.

Liked Open year round. Was able to park on tarmac. There are showers (1 stall) & 2 toilets. Allow dogs.

Disliked At booking advised would be checking in between 7-8pm. Upon arrival, no reception area only a sign (had to use a torch to read) to check in at house that can be seen from this very small site (10 spots?), Decided to phone the number instead of walking up to a dark house, a woman answered ‘hello’ didn’t seem to understand what I meant about checking in, asked where I was, and didn’t seem to know that I had booked with “pitch up”. She asked me if I paid already and then asked if I was paying by cash or card, I told her card. She sent her son out to see to me, (he was very pleasant), we walked back up to the house for him to bring the debit card machine to the front door to pay my balance, a bit strange set up.
This site is on a very busy road next to a petrol station, can hear traffic at all hours. There is water only, no other clean up areas (sinks) or chemical waste. Thought the price of £30/night was a bit steep for 1st November, I did not want or use electricity (all other sites charge less for no electric use). In the morning I could clearly see the large house with many, what looked like “work” vans parked on there side. I Can imagine this site is very noisy during summer with their family(s) out and the site full - no privacy.

Local attractions

The kids will make sure Blair Drummond Safari and Adventure Park (five minutes’ drive) is first stop on the sightseeing schedule; here you can spot the Big 5 African animals, watch birds of prey flying displays and let youngsters loose in the adventure playground. If the weather is good, a Loch Katrine cruise on the vintage steamship ‘Sir Walter Scott’ (35 minutes) might be next on the agenda. You can also take a trip on the rotating boat lift at the Falkirk Wheel (half an hour), and be sure to stop by The Kelpies, two gigantic metal sculptures of horses’ heads that soar over the site – they look equally spectacular lit up at night. Inject a little Scottish history into your holiday mix with a guided tour of Stirling Castle (10 minutes), The Battle of Bannockburn Visitor Centre and the landmark Wallace Monument (both 20 minutes). However, if you’d rather be out hiking or cycling in stunning loch-and-glen country, make straight for Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park (10 minutes).
