When you’re looking for somewhere spectacular to hold a party, a get-together with friends or just a weekend break with extended family, they don’t come much more special than pop-up Loxton Hill Wild Camping, 25 minutes' drive away from Weston-super-Mare in North Somerset. You'll get a good feel for how peaceful this site is on the approach, for there's no on-site parking and access is on foot: park in the village of Loxton, then walk for around half an hour along the West Mendip Way, and you're there. At the westernmost ridge of the Mendip Hills National Landscape, Loxton Hill Wild Camping is remote, with complete privacy and stunning views. There's plenty of space and no formal pitches, so you can all set up together – but be quick about choosing your spot, because there’ll be some competition for the best views over the Somerset Levels all the way to the Bristol Channel – little beats the sunset over the sea on a clear evening. Bring firepits and barbecues, canopies and tents and spread out over the hilltop – you’ll have it all to yourselves after all. Just be aware that this is ‘proper’ wild camping, so you’ll need to bring in everything you need, from drinking water to lights. There are two villages (Christon and Loxton) with shops within about half an hour on foot, and excellent pubs at Godney and Pilton (both around 40 minutes’ drive). If you need a bit of a scrub up after a few days of outdoor life, there’s also a spa at the local hotel (10 minutes).

Liked We loved our stay. Nathan the host was great. The location is incredible. I've done a fair bit of walking in North Somerset/Mendips, and I think the views on the site might be some of the best I've seen here. Lots of benches dotted around to sit down at and take it all in. I don't think the pictures I've taken do it justice, but it's great. We were after a wild camping type site that we could walk to, and this was it. Peaceful. Surrounded by nature. Amazing views. My son loved it as it felt like an adventure.

Disliked Not a dislike really, but it's on the top of a hill and it seems like it can get windy on occasion. I knew about the location, but hadn't properly factored in, so I wish I'd brought some slightly warmer clothes/a jacket. Not the campsites fault though, just my own.

Liked Phenomenal 😊 spent 3 days here with my partner and two young children 2 and 4 years.

The view, the site and owners
We got there later than expected and they were incredible. Our pump broke he came with his generator pump.

The sun sets we're breathtaking. The view and site. We sort hot air balloon and paragliding.

Can't recommend this place enough. Will definitely be going back.

The toilet wasn't flushing as he was still working to get everything up and running.

Disliked Doesn't have a shower.
The road to get up is very rough.
