  • Peaceful South Hams eco site overlooking the Kingsbridge estuary
  • A 15-minute drive to Salcombe, the South West Coast Path and Hope Cove
  • Kingsbridge’s shops, pubs and restaurants within walking distance
Sign in for sweet views over the Kingsbridge estuary – scenic vistas and farming landscapes are a given at Woodhouse Farm in Devon's South Hams. A 15-minute drive from Salcombe, the South West Coast Path and Hope Cove, this eco site is well-situated for ticking off coves, seaside towns and fishing villages, whether that’s through swims, kayaking or simply sinking down into your preferred sandy (or shingle) spot. Reached via the Old Salcombe Road in Kingsbridge, the site itself is part of a mixed farm passed down four generations. As you may expect, things are pretty peaceful here, so you’ll really be able to take in the views. On a hilltop overlooking the estuary, the scenery is pretty memorable too. Itching to head out once you’ve parked up? Kingsbridge is 15 minutes’ walk away from the site, and you should be able to track down all the essentials in this ancient market town, as it has plenty of shops, restaurants, cafés and splendid riverside pubs, plus an arts and yoga centre, history museum and a convenient ferry link to Salcombe. In Salcombe (15 minutes' drive), boating and crabbing activities are on the menu, as is a gin distillery. Other cool spots include Thurlestone Golf Club (15 minutes) and Totnes (half an hour), which has heritage sites, a vineyard and ferries to Kingswear for the Dartmouth steam railway. As this site is all about getting cosy in the outdoors, there are simple facilities including mains cold water and an eco toilet. Happily, dogs are welcome on the site too, so you’ll get to sit with your well-behaved canine companion by your feet.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (two person)

Liked: Quiet spot with a good view

Disliked: Very basic facilities. Only one compost WC which you usually have to queue for.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review our site :) We’re glad you enjoyed the view :) Apologies you had to queue for the toilet, the bank holiday weekend is our busiest time during our short season, hopefully we are busier next year & can add more facilities as needed :) We’re sorry to see you wouldn’t visit again, our site isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (two person)

Liked: Amazing place. The views were incredible and everyone was so friendly. It was only a 10 minute walk into the town too which was fantastic. We had never been to that part of Devon and didn't want to leave.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (two person)

Liked: Great views, well maintained campsite. Toilet facilities great. Grey location, walking distance to the town. Plenty of places to eat and supermarkets within walking distance.

Disliked: Sink basin was difficult to use due to no mains water tap, so found it difficult to wash up. Other than that all good.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review our site :) We're glad you enjoyed the view & exploring the town :) Thank you for your feedback on the sink, it was a new addition & will see what we can do for next year :)

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (solo)

Liked: Lovely little spot only minutes walk from the centre of Kingsbridge. The view across the estuary was beautiful. A wonderful view to wake up to!

Disliked: The toilet and sink facilities were great, really well kept and clean and not at all smelly for a composting toilet, but the shower was a very cold, and unless you fancied a liberating moment in the countryside, you could easily be caught with your pants down by a farmer! Some privacy and warmth would be much appreciated

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review our site :) We're glad you enjoyed the view & exploring the town :) We understand the cold shower isn’t for everyone & are looking to find a way of providing a warm shower that fits our eco ethos :)

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite (two person)

Liked: Views were lovely. Proximity to pubs and restaurants was good! 2 minute walk into Kingsbridge - for shops and cafes.

Disliked: Only issue - freshly cut grass left in field did get a tad messy

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review our site :) we're glad you enjoyed the view & exploring the town :) Apologies about the cut grass, it was growing so fast we had to cut it but understand it can be a pain when it’s a bit wet, apologies again. Hope to see you again next year :)

Local attractions

Up first, perhaps beaches? Thurlestone (15 minutes’ drive) is best known for its rockpool rummaging activities, gorgeous sandy beaches and watersports. Then there’s the fishing village of Hope Cove (15 minutes), which has two beaches of its own, each with safe swimming shallows (and art galleries waiting back on dry land). You may prefer to stick to the South West Coast Path (15 minutes), where walks can be as long as you wish. If it’s just a short and sweet stroll you fancy, the tropical gardens at the National Trust’s Overbeck’s (20 minutes) should hit the spot. Perhaps it’s Slapton Sands (20 minutes) that takes your liking, what with its scenic shingle beach and the Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve for more peaceful walks. You may choose to rest your feet at Bigbury beach (25 minutes) instead, where there are sea tractor rides to Burgh Island or kayaks and other water vessels available for rent. For theme park rides, a zoo farm and falconry centre to entertain the kids, head to Woodlands Family Theme Park (20 minutes).
