  • Peaceful South Hams eco site overlooking the Kingsbridge estuary
  • A 15-minute drive to Salcombe, the South West Coast Path and Hope Cove
  • Kingsbridge’s shops, pubs and restaurants within walking distance
Sign in for sweet views over the Kingsbridge estuary – scenic vistas and farming landscapes are a given at Woodhouse Farm Eco Camping in Devon's South Hams. A 15-minute drive from Salcombe, the South West Coast Path and Hope Cove, this eco site is well-situated for ticking off coves, seaside towns and fishing villages, whether that’s through swims, kayaking or simply sinking down into your preferred sandy (or shingle) spot. Reached via the Old Salcombe Road in Kingsbridge, the site itself is part of a mixed farm passed down four generations. As you may expect, things are pretty peaceful here, so you’ll really be able to take in the views. On a hilltop overlooking the estuary, the scenery is pretty memorable too. Itching to head out once you’ve parked up? Kingsbridge is 15 minutes’ walk away from the site, and you should be able to track down all the essentials in this ancient market town, as it has plenty of shops, restaurants, cafés and splendid riverside pubs, plus an arts and yoga centre, history museum and a convenient ferry link to Salcombe. In Salcombe (15 minutes' drive), boating and crabbing activities are on the menu, as is a gin distillery. Other cool spots include Thurlestone Golf Club (15 minutes) and Totnes (half an hour), which has heritage sites, a vineyard and ferries to Kingswear for the Dartmouth steam railway. The site is mainly about getting cosy in the outdoors, but there is a nice range of simple facilities including the option of a hot shower in a cubicle or a cold outdoor shower, two eco toilets with sinks and a mains cold-water tap. Happily, dogs are welcome on the site too, so you’ll get to sit with your well-behaved canine companion by your feet.

What customers say

This eco campsite boasts lovely estuary views and a tranquil vibe. Visitors love the helpful staff, spotless facilities, and generous pitch sizes. It's perfectly located for walking to Kingsbridge. While most find the eco-toilets grand, some recent remarks mention shower temp and cleanliness glitches, which the manager vows to sort fast. Despite a couple of quiet grumbles about noise or basic amenities at busy times, most folk can't wait to come back.

Liked Stayed for long weekend.
Very lovely view and ok place to camp for the price. First time using eco toilets and they was actually fine and clearly took care of.

Disliked Not in the Owners control but unfortunately stay did get kinda ruined abit as
Noise from Boy racers waking us up late on two of the nights speeding on road across the way.
One family stayed the Saturday only (might of been removed) and camp fires was banned at the time for safety reasons all over the UK
and this family not only ignored this but had a raging fire, dangerous even the size it got and everyone else on site at time was fuming, especially those who the family camped by.
This family also kept making mess of toilets and facilities and did make them start to smell as they was clearly not following rules everyone has to to keep them clean and from smelling. Once they was gone didn’t take long for toilets be righted.
Also another family who only stayed one night turned up at nearly 11pm on the night and woke people up including me and partner.
Could hear the Dad saying it’s late make sure your all quiet then all of them including the Dad immediately started banging around and talking loudly, even shouting for over a hour!!
People started going over to offer help to get them to hurry the hell up.
Even I ended up shouting at them to shut up. There was plenty of ground to go set up away from everyone and yet you turn up at nearly 11pm and set up right next to us all!
Putting about the two families because I hope they see this and know you both are absolute d**ks, rude and inconsiderate.
Also Kingbridge all pretty much closed on a Sunday or don’t do food apart from takeway places but Salcombe nice place to go to.

Bell tent

Liked We loved this beautiful spot, the bell tent was perfect for our first camping trip as a family with a toddler. There was plenty of space for all of us, including the dog. We were made to feel very welcome and the site had everything we needed.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (solo)

Liked Nice friendly people running the site. Easy to find. Toilet, shower & washing up facility well looked after. Shower, with hot water! Nice view of the water. Option to pitch up in the lower field away from the busier main field.

Disliked Nothing really. It is on a slope, so when it's busy might have to be prepared to pitch on the steeper part.

Local attractions

Up first, perhaps beaches? Thurlestone (15 minutes’ drive) is best known for its rockpool rummaging activities, gorgeous sandy beaches and watersports. Then there’s the fishing village of Hope Cove (15 minutes), which has two beaches of its own, each with safe swimming shallows (and art galleries waiting back on dry land). You may prefer to stick to the South West Coast Path (15 minutes), where walks can be as long as you wish. If it’s just a short and sweet stroll you fancy, the tropical gardens at the National Trust’s Overbeck’s (20 minutes) should hit the spot. Perhaps it’s Slapton Sands (20 minutes) that takes your liking, what with its scenic shingle beach and the Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve for more peaceful walks. You may choose to rest your feet at Bigbury beach (25 minutes) instead, where there are sea tractor rides to Burgh Island or kayaks and other water vessels available for rent. For theme park rides, a zoo farm and falconry centre to entertain the kids, head to Woodlands Family Theme Park (20 minutes).
