  • Well-established family-friendly site in the centre of Croyde
  • A short walk from Croyde's beach, surf schools, shops and pubs
  • Peaceful site with large, level pitches and purpose-built facilities
Ah, Croyde – the mere mention of this lovely little village is liable to perk up the ears of surfer types, who’ve no doubt heard about the splendid waves around this corner of Devon. Those same surfer types (along with those who’d like to learn the art of standing up on water, and anyone else that’s keen on the coast) should also find their ears pricking up at the offerings of Camping @ Croyde Bay, a friendly site in the village centre. The waters at Croyde beach, around 400 metres away, are famed as being fab for both keen surfers and novices, and that also makes this area a top pick for family holidays. The well-established site is a family-friendly place too, in a spot that’s easily walkable to the village’s shops and pubs but quiet enough for a good night’s kip. Facilities include purpose-built toilets and showers, and a much-loved ladies' dressing room with a mirror, power points, hair dryers and hair straighteners. There is an additional hot outdoor shower for sandy wetsuits, a drying area, plenty of fresh drinking water and a washing-up area for dealing with dishes. Guests can also use the communal freezers and mobile phone charging points. As for the local area, it’s not all about Croyde: Putsborough beach (another corker) is also within walking distance, and it’s a couple of miles to Saunton for more sandy times and a gorgeous golf course.

What customers say

This popular campsite boasts a prime location, steps from Croyde village and beach. Guests rave about spotless facilities, roomy pitches, and super-friendly staff. Thoughtful touches like hairdryers, freezers, and USB ports are a hit. It's a quiet, no-music spot. Occasional road noise/spotty Wi-Fi were minor notes in overwhelmingly positive reviews.

Power optional grass campervan or trailer tent campsite (maximum 6 metres)

Liked Great position for a short walk to the village or a slightly longer one to the beach.

Disliked The site is on a slope, pitches have been cut into the slope to level it out but levelling blocks are still needed and it’s not suitable for people with mobility issues.

Showers need a good clean, the baskets on the wall provided to hold your toiletries are filthy and not been cleaned in a very long while.

I was in pitch 6 which was on the edge opposite the reception. Unfortunately other guests seems to have no issue walking directly through my pitch and there was a constant stream of vehicles coming and going and lights glaring at night. A hedge or fence would help rectify this.

From the manager: Dear Julia,
Thank you for your honest feedback.
I will take it all on board and rectify what I can.
We take great pride in our facilities and obviously failed you on this busy occasion. We are regularly commended for the cleanliness of our facilities, but I take your feedback as a learning opportunity and will improve accordingly.
Kind regards.
Stu.

Liked Loved this little site. Clean showers, toilets and wash up area. Staff always around to help if needed. Felt safe as a solo female in my van and met a new friend who also was camping solo. Close to the beach and the village. Market was ace and also close by. Was very peaceful too. Had the best time.

Power optional gravel RV campsite (maximum 7 metres)

Liked A quiet site just what we needed as last year we stayed a little closer to the beach in another sight and it’s was noisy and crowded and very messy. This site was well kept friendly and just what we needed.

Disliked Not much to dislike really. If I was to nitpick it was some of the toilet doors were warped and you felt like you were on show a little and the main gate needs an upgrade as seemed old and not to secure

Local attractions

So… the beach? Thought so. Croyde’s one of those fab places that’s equally good for a paddle, a swim or a surf. Experienced boarding types can usually find some good waves down here, and there are shallower sections where newbies can find their feet (with the help of one of the village’s surf schools, ideally). For a rest from the waves, take a walk out to Baggy Point (about 45 minutes on foot), join a game at the village’s beach volleyball school or drive for 10 minutes to the rural pursuits at Borough Farm Sheepdog and Falconry Displays. Alternatively, make it all about the sea with a coasteering day from Croyde, a ride on the beach at Woolacombe or a sea safari from Ilfracombe (both 15 minutes’ drive). The beaches at Putsborough and Saunton Sands are both about five minutes’ drive away and there are some cracking walks to be had on the South West Coast Path around here too.
