  • Spacious rural farm site just off the Atlantic Highway
  • Welcombe Mouth beach 10 minutes' drive; Bude 15 minutes
  • Welcombe village centre and local pub five minutes' drive
On the hunt for somewhere peaceful near the border between Devon and Cornwall? Just off the Atlantic Highway, with space for your four-legged friends too? Then, Welcombe Campers might be your missing piece. This small, family-run farm site is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the North Devon coast, just five minutes’ drive away from the village of Welcombe and 10 minutes from Welcombe Mouth beach. This fab location makes the pitches just the thing for families and couples. Surfers, paddleboarders and other sporty visitors will also find plenty to do in the local area, as this stretch of the coast is well-known as a hub for watersports, however you like them. Plus, those of you with a canine family member are allowed to come and stay at Welcombe Campers too (but please keep them on a lead at all times when out and about around the site). The facilities here are on the simpler end of the spectrum, but you'll still have access to essentials like toilets. Away from base, the village centre's pub is a five-minute drive away and it’s highly recommended. For large supermarkets, shops and a wider range of places to eat, as well as a fine selection of beaches that will soon have you swimming and paddling away, Bude (15 minutes) is your best bet.

Local attractions

Peek in on what’s rumoured to have been Merlin’s sea cave and learn the legends of King Arthur at Tintagel Castle (40 minutes’ drive) on the Cornish clifftops… around this part of the coast, there are plenty of cool spots like this one. You could join the surf brigade in Westward Ho! (25 minutes) or settle into a nice spot on Welcombe Mouth beach (10 minutes) to search the rockpools for fish and crabs. Bude (15 minutes) is a bang-on choice for watersports, especially surfing and sailing or canoeing and kayaking in the canal, but if you’re looking for somewhere where lobster and crab specialties, clifftop strolls and chartered fishing trips take centre stage, Clovelly (15 minutes) is an ancient fishing village of that sort. What about those activities that will take you onto dryer land? Well, you’ll want to bring out your hiking boots for Bodmin Moor (40 minutes) and map out the way to Bronze Age sites and granite tors. Rainforest biomes and zipwires are the sort of thing you’ll find at the Eden Project (an hour and 15 minutes), while over in the Milky Way Adventure Park (10 minutes), you’ll have family-friendly rides ready and waiting.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: Flat level pitch. Electric hook up worked. Pleasant helpful young man on site

Disliked: The toilet block was filthy and bug infested. No hot water despite turning on the water heater and the room heater also didn't work. The shower tin hut was primative at best but again, filthy and bug infested. The shower did at least have hot water. An area between the top of the tin walls and the tin roof was open to the elements which on a cold day wasn't pleasant at all.

Primitive grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked: After a disastrous start at a neighbouring site up the road which looked more like Colditz POW camp and even weirder camp commandant. We came across this lovely site just down the road and took a chance booking in. What a difference 500m makes an amazing experience and Sharon was unbelievably attentive, level pitches, immaculate grounds and the best shower experienced on a site so far, hot and powerful. Highly recommended and we stayed an extra night and will definitely return. Thank you for he eggs they were delicious 🤤

Liked: The pitches were very large and spaced apart. The toilet block and shower was very satisfactory, the owner was very pleasant and helpful. We will definitely come back.

Disliked: The site was on the A39 in a very convenient position, some traffic noise was heard but it was not a problem.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked: I had a lovely 4 night stay at Welcombe campers. The site is peaceful, spacious and clean. I felt well looked after by Sharon and we had some lovely chats about farming life and I sampled her award winning eggs. It's located close to the A39 so there is some traffic noise but on the plus side it was convenient for the bus service as there is a bus stop directly outside the site. There is now a lovely hot shower on site so facilities are greatly improved. There are some lovely bike rides in the area and a pub serving food within walking/cycling distance along quiet roads.

Disliked: Nothing
