  • Peaceful, dog-friendly site seven miles from Dartmoor National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Roadford Lake and half an hour from the coast
  • Tuck shop on site, plus regular drive-in cinema nights
Nature-inspired adventures on your mind? You'll find a whole lot of them in the area around Beverly Hills Camping. This peaceful, dog-friendly site stretches over 15 acres of Devon countryside seven miles from Dartmoor National Park and half an hour from the coast. From chasing down waterfalls and climbing mountain peaks to rummaging through rockpools on the shore, there's plenty to do in the area, such as hiring paddleboards, kayaks and canoes to explore Roadford Lake (15 minutes’ drive), where you can also angle for carp. If you would rather stick to terra firma, head out to hike the Pegasus Way, which runs past the site and leads into the local forest. For further exhilaration, join the Sunday morning goings-on organised by a qualified England Athletics coach. Afterwards, refill with a snack from the tuck shop on site. You may want to pick up something special if you happen to be here on a night when the drive-in cinema’s running… yes, there’s a screen set up alongside the site that shows films on selected evenings (check the weather and screening times in advance; booking recommended). Within a 10-minute drive of the site you’ll find a food shop, plus a few restaurants and pubs (including a dog-friendly pub in Bratton).

Local attractions

On the western edge of Dartmoor National Park, Lydford Gorge (25 minutes' drive) is a National Trust-run site with fern-flanked trails and moss-covered steps leading through ancient woodlands to dramatic cascades like the 30m-high Whitelady Waterfall. The gorge, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is home to birds such as pied flycatchers and kingfishers, plus butterflies and dragonflies. The seaside town of Bude (half an hour), on the north-east coast of Cornwall, has several beaches – from expansive, sandy Summerleaze, close to the town centre, to Crooklets, a popular spot for surfing – plus a tidal pool where you can swim laps without worrying about waves or currents. And, of course, the South West Coast Path runs right through this pretty town. Hidden Valley (half an hour) is a discovery park with a maze, a miniature railway and assorted puzzles that should keep the kids occupied… for a while, at least. The highlight of the park is the Forbidden Mansion, which will challenge your senses and perspectives with an upside-down room, spooky portraits and a room of doors.

The A-Team on-site trailer

Liked: We like everything about this lovely little campsite. The handmade houses look amazing and are perfectly functional. We called Geoff when we arrived and he came burning along on his 4 x 4 with a massive friendly smile on his face. He really made us feel welcome and shared some great stories of his building history. The toilet is a portal loo like you get at festivals but it is so well kept. Clean and didn't smell atall. There are all sorts of toiletries available for use if need be and even a lovely air freshener.. There are also games for kids.. Tennis rackets etc free to use. We stayed in the A-Team van which was a perfect size for us. Oakhampton is a short drive away and has all the amenities you will need if you want take away etc. We will definitely come again and reccomend anyone that reads this to pay a visit. Last but not least we have giff gaff as our phone provider and we no signal issues atall.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike atall😊😊

The Western Wagon microlodge

Liked: We spent one night in the Western Wagon, which my 11 year old thought was amazing.

The site was brilliant, we all commented on how flat well maintained the grass was 😊 Brilliant to make use of the garden games that were free to use.

Loved the welcome gifts and all the little extras dotted around in case we forgot anything - toiletries, lighters etc

Everything was very clean, I could even smell the laundry detergent on the blankets in the wagon 😊

Disliked: Not much, it was perfect for 1 night but I think we’d struggle with more than that due to the lack of space , which I don’t think would have seemed like such an issue if there was some sort of outdoor undercover area and if the weather had been better.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: We had the camp to ourselves which was lovely. The bathroom was cleaned daily with toiletries provided which was a massive bonus. Plus games like tennis was also available as well so we had an excellent time! The closet town is only a 5 minute drive with everything you need from food, toiletries and anything else you might. Plus there’s a lovely little pub there too.
