Beverly Hills Camping: Gypsy micro pod microlodge

General

  • Peaceful, dog-friendly site seven miles from Dartmoor National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Roadford Lake and half an hour from the coast
  • Tuck shop on site, plus regular drive-in cinema nights

Nature-inspired adventures on your mind? You'll find a whole lot of them in the area around Beverly Hills Camping. This peaceful, dog-friendly site stretches over 15 acres of Devon countryside seven miles from Dartmoor National Park and half an hour from the coast.

From chasing down waterfalls and climbing mountain peaks to rummaging through rockpools on the shore, there's plenty to do in the area, such as hiring paddleboards, kayaks and canoes to explore Roadford Lake (15 minutes’ drive), where you can also angle for carp. If you would rather stick to terra firma, head out to hike the Pegasus Way, which runs past the site and leads into the local forest. For further exhilaration, join the Sunday morning goings-on organised by a qualified England Athletics coach.

Afterwards, refill with a snack from the tuck shop on site. You may want to pick up something special if you happen to be here on a night when the drive-in cinema’s running… yes, there’s a screen set up alongside the site that shows films on selected evenings (check the weather and screening times in advance; booking recommended).

Within a 10-minute drive of the site you’ll find a food shop, plus a few restaurants and pubs (including a dog-friendly pub in Bratton).

We loved our stay in the Hobbit house! There was a film on the sat night and we could watch it from the deck with a bottle of wine and our BBQ going, it was so cost and fun.
The site is small with few people which made the stay quiet and relaxing. The facilities were in good condition, I saw the owners cleaning them about 3 times a day.
Geoff and Laura were so kind, they even set up the Hobbit house into the sleeping mode for us because I said we would arrive late. It is so so cosy.
The night we arrived there was one of the most clear starry skies I have seen in the UK with shooting stars and the milky way very visible.
Amazing spot and very reasonably priced
    Thanks guys!

We stayed here as a pit stop on our journey down to st Ives to break up the drive for our toddler, we arrived just as it was getting dark and set up our roof tent and what can I say... A totally amazing little site. The grass is like a putting green! The little huts to hire are delightful and the facilities although minimal are so well thought out and immaculately clean! Even nice little outdoor toys for the kids to play with, didn't get to meet the owners as we left early doors the next morning but we will definitely be back here! Perfect location and love the walks being marked out too. We tried to book on our way home but it was full sadly.

We chose the site partly because of the walks but, because of the dreadful weather, we didn't get to experience them sadly.

Fantastic little site. Owners came over and were super friendly. They allowed me to pitch up so that I had a great view watching the movie. The little quirky accommodation they have built themselves is brilliant!
One unisex toilet on site,One changing area/cold shower, both kept clean.
During the movie they had a small tuck shop that you could get popcorn, hotdogs, candy floss..
They work so hard, they deserve to do well..

Local attractions

On the western edge of Dartmoor National Park, Lydford Gorge (25 minutes' drive) is a National Trust-run site with fern-flanked trails and moss-covered steps leading through ancient woodlands to dramatic cascades like the 30m-high Whitelady Waterfall. The gorge, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is home to birds such as pied flycatchers and kingfishers, plus butterflies and dragonflies.

The seaside town of Bude (half an hour), on the north-east coast of Cornwall, has several beaches – from expansive, sandy Summerleaze, close to the town centre, to Crooklets, a popular spot for surfing – plus a tidal pool where you can swim laps without worrying about waves or currents. And, of course, the South West Coast Path runs right through this pretty town.

Hidden Valley (half an hour) is a discovery park with a maze, a miniature railway and assorted puzzles that should keep the kids occupied… for a while, at least. The highlight of the park is the Forbidden Mansion, which will challenge your senses and perspectives with an upside-down room, spooky portraits and a room of doors.

Must see

  • RHS Garden Rosemoor (20.6 kilometres)
  • Castle Drogo (26.1 kilometres)
  • Buckfast Abbey (40.6 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Lydford Gorge (13.6 kilometres)
