General

  • Rural and informal Ockley camping field in the Surrey Hills
  • A 20-minute drive to Horsham; 45 minutes to the beach
  • Walking distance to pubs; tea and coffee tent on site

Walkers, bikers and horse riders – all are welcomed at Vann Farm Camping, a relaxed family campsite in the Surrey Hills. The spacious pitches here are set in a secluded field, with direct access to miles of footpaths around Vann Lake and through Ockley Woods.

As well as countless hiking and cycling trails (like the North Downs Way, a few miles north) you may also be glad to know that there are several good pubs within walking or biking distance. The closest is in the village of Ockley, just 400 metres away, where you’ll also find a small store for last-minute bits, with bigger supermarkets 15 minutes away in Horsham.

For different days out nearby, you can play a round of golf or head to the seaside, about 45 minutes' drive away. If they've been well behaved (or you need to tempt them into being so), you may also like to treat the kids to a day out at Chessington World of Adventures Resort, half an hour away.

Now for the practicalities: this peaceful site has parking in an adjacent field as well as loo and shower facilities and drinking water close to the pitches.

There’s a tea and coffee tent to get you going in the morning, and barbecues are permitted in firepits (rent one on site or bring your own) but please don’t take kindling from the woodlands, as they are part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Guests are encouraged to recycle any rubbish, although bins are available.

This is a lovely basic relaxing site with very helpful and friendly owners. It was nice that they did extras like bacon butties in the morning and tea and cake in the afternoon.

    Disliked:

Ideally water in the toilets. Maybe an extra water tap would be useful but it didn’t detract from our lovely break.

Just back from a lovely relaxed weekend of camping at Vann farm. First time without EHU and didn't miss it one bit! Lovely family that made us feel very welcome, especially the two sisters that were forever busy! We were lucky enough to be there when they had a 'bar' and enjoyed an hour or two of their company drinking 'Pimms' and chatting about almost everything! Pitches were self chosen and extremely spacious. A few farm animals to see and adorable dogs, especially 'Blue'. Able to have fire pits and bbqs. We throughly enjoyed our Bank Holiday weekend, and hope to return next year!

Location was great, ladies who showed us around were lovely. Camp site that offers breakfast, tea, coffees etc. quiet open space with plenty of room. Showers and toilet is very clean. Forest walks starting at the bottom of the field which we enjoyed

    Disliked:

No water to wash hands in the toilet. No hot water for washing up. Shower water temperature was OK but no option to adjust should you want hotter or colder. Very loud party/festival very close by playing loud music, singing and shouting till 2AM. I don't know if this is a regular thing or a one off but was a very bad night sleep for us. No farm animals as shown in pictures when booking or near by.

From the manager...

Hi there, thank you for your feedback. Our shower temperature is pre set due to safety and to prevent anyone scalding themselves. Just to let you know the music was a one off as our neighbour was having their 21st birthday party, we apologise for the noise. Our animals are free range but usually make an appearance, we're sorry you missed them.
Kind Regards,
Sophie

Small, friendly farm campsite, spotless facilities in a great location07/26/2021

Wonderful location, friendly hosts (who live on the farm, with plenty of child friendly animals!), a short walk through a meadow & a public bridleway to the village pub. Ockley village is a 10 min walk away with a small village shop, a pub selling good ales & typical pub grub. There is also a farm shop (but we didn’t get that far), a friendly cricket club on the village green & a playground.
Great woods to explore next to the campsite & fun for the kids just running around the field. Nice hot, clean showers, clean chemical toilets (not smelly at all like others I have used).
We liked that the campsite was fairly quiet although that may be because it was their first weekend of the season.
They also hire out fire pits/bbqs and do breakfasts to order - we didn’t have one as we had brought plenty of food for a short weekend away but if you wanted to pack light and leave the camp kitchen at home there is certainly scope to do so!

    Disliked:

It would be great for there to be separate sinks for washing hands & faces vs doing the washing up and for there to be hot water for washing up rather than just cold. However, this would be the icing on the cake for an already great campsite.

Chances are the daily shows and thrill rides at Chessington World of Adventures or Thorpe Park resorts (both less than 45 minutes away) will be top of the kids’ to-do list, but you can also be on the beach in Brighton or Worthing for paddles, watersports and seaside amusements in less than an hour.

For more grownup days out, take guided tours of the vines at Denbies Wine Estate (20 minutes) and Bolney Wine Estate (half an hour), or stroll through the smart gardens at the National Trust's Nymans estate (25 minutes) and Sussex Prairie Garden (half an hour).
