  • Family-friendly Hampshire site in the South Downs National Park
  • A 15-minute drive from Petersfield; half an hour from the south coast
  • On-site pizza restaurant, bar and café called The Dell Hampshire
A South Downs National Park setting with gorgeous views across valleys and farmland? Say no more: Hampshire's Cedar Valley has spacious pitches with all of the above, plus access to neat and tidy amenity cabins housing showers, toilets and sinks. The pitches are suitable for families or other groups: send the kids to the designated mown area to play football, fly kites or muck around. For downtime from the kids, adults can beeline to The Dell, the lively on-site pizza restaurant, bar and café. Barbecues and campfires are permitted to allow you to live that proper outdoorsy lifestyle. West Meon and East Meon, both five minutes' drive away from the site, have small village shops should you need to pick up any last-minute supplies. Plus, when you need to clean up after your group barbecues or picnics, there is also a covered washing-up area provided on site. Thinking about where to go exploring? Cedar Valley is within half an hour's drive of the south coast and an hour and a half from London. It's surrounded by countryside with scenic walks and cycling routes (including the South Downs Way, for the more ambitious hikers among you), as well as several wild swimming spots and some very fine Hampshire pubs.

Meadow primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite (no groups)

Liked: Lovely campsite with spotless toilets and shower in each cubicle which is excellent. Washing up facilities are top notch. The hosts are a great couple and checked on everyone regularly and charged my power banks for me as I was staying on a non electric pitch. The area is central to so many things whatever your interests are. Stayed for 6 nights and will be sorry to leave.

Disliked: The ground is rock solid even after a lot of rain so bring heavy ground tent pegs. The shower can be temperamental but it was bank holiday so they were being used a lot.

Paddock primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: Lovely site. Zero complaints. Field was virtually empty for me and the price was superb. Really quiet and set back. Field was sloping at the top but plenty of flat space.

Facilities were great. Multiple toilets, showers and urinals. If field was full, may be a wee queue however for me during the week - it was perfect. Bins aplenty. Honesty box for wood for campfires.

Was greeted on arrival and departure. Gutted I wasn't there when the pizza place was open. The whole set up was superb and I'll definitely go back!

And if you like nature . . . So many birds. Buzzards, Red Kits, Kestrels, Woodpeckers and definitely saw Deer and heard even more.

Will definitely be coming back

Paddock primitive grass tent or campervan campsite

Liked: Very impressed with the shower/toilet cubicles as they were very clean and well maintained.

Being able to pitch your tent anywhere on the chosen site was ideal and being given the opportunity to have your own fire going is a campers dream.

We also absolutely loved Albie the campsite dog!

Disliked: That we couldn't have stayed for longer! And we didn't get a chance to make use of the firepit facilities.

Local attractions

Get out via two wheels: several decent bike tracks are on the estate itself or you can pedal off around the area's many lanes and bike routes. A good run is to Petersfield (15 minutes' drive) to stock up on armfuls of fresh produce at the Wednesday and Saturday markets. If trotting's more your thing, ask the Cedar Valley team about the pony rides available in the surrounding countryside: both experienced and amateur riders can take their pick from three-hour rides through first-class woodland, or around the area's cross-country course. If you prefer your equine animals at a speedy distance, the racecourse at Goodwood is about half an hour's drive away. More of a foot-based wanderer? The Cedar Valley team has mapped out many walks in the area so you can wander off to see where your feet might take you. The South Downs Way is close by: try the walk from Petersfield to Cocking, via Nursted Copse and Harting Down.
