  • Family-friendly working farm site in the South Downs National Park
  • A 10-minute drive from Ditchling Beacon and 25 minutes from Brighton
  • On-site farm shop, tearoom and kids' farm (free entry for guests)
The Oaks Poultry Farm doesn’t overcomplicate things when it comes to a breezy break away… in the South Downs National Park, this working farm site is a simple, straightforward and friendly site in the scenic Sussex countryside with a lush field where you may pick your preferred patch to plop down on. You won’t need to sacrifice the simple pleasures of a break in the outdoors here, as the site permits small firepits and there are logs available to buy from the on-site shop (or you may bring your own). As the site is surrounded by woodlands and wildlife, you won’t able to pick your own wood there. Meals are made pretty easy here too, as the on-site farm shop sells quality fresh meat from the farm, eggs and other essentials such as baked beans, milk and bacon. The shop is only closed on Sundays, so if you’re planning something then, the site takes orders to be collected on a Sunday. With walks close by, you may decide to re-energise in the on-site tearoom too, where there’s tea, coffee, homemade cakes and ice creams, plus outdoor seating. The small indoor play area has a place where adults may sit down while kids muck about in the sandpit and mud kitchens or meet the small petting animals. As a working farm, there are a number of animals including donkeys, goats, ducks, cows and poultry to see. The facilities are basic, inlcuding toilets and showers split into male and female, along with dishwashing facilities.

What customers say

This family-run farm campsite offers a peaceful rural setting with ample space and a welcoming atmosphere. Visitors praised the friendly owners, the children's play barn and animals, and the on-site cafe and farm shop. While the location is convenient for exploring the South Downs and Brighton, some guests noted basic and occasionally unkempt toilet and shower facilities, with some experiencing issues with hot water and drainage. Despite these minor drawbacks, many reviewers expressed a desire to return.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked This was a great place to stay - for the three of us it was just one night, near enough to Brighton to drop two teenagers off for the day, and near to the downs for walking for me. The camping field is beautiful (and when we were there, extremely quiet/peaceful), with trees/bushes around two of the sides . The third side is a fence to an adjoining field/meadow, so a bit more exposed but still nice. It's essentially level too. Pitches are unmarked, which was great for us as it was so quiet. The washing etc facilities are just about sufficient, but pretty basic. Owners were really friendly. The cafe has the best lemon/almond cake ever(!) and there's a shop on site, though they're closed on Sunday.

Definitely a place I have in mind for us to return to, in particular as a place to stay for a couple of nights.

Disliked The washing facilities could be tidied up and cleaned a bit.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked Small campsite and was not busy
Secure for children to explore by themselves (age appropriate)
2 toilets and a shower cleaned regularly
Although it was raining prior to arrival and during one of the nights the ground was neither soaked nor muddy
Sink with drinking water and to do the washing up

Disliked Only one sink, which if it is busy might cause queues. But was not too busy so it was not a problem.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked The owner and family were just lovely- so friendly and even though the campsite is on a working farm, they made every effort to spend time talking to us, and letting the kids pet the small animals in the playbarn (their highlight of the stay!)
We loved the onsite cafe and farm shop and the fact everything is local and family run. The campsite is one field with basic toilets and showers but this is all we needed!
Highly recommend and would definitely visit again

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked Wonderful stay! Ed and family really made our trip exceptional, getting the animals out for the kids to hold and stroke. Quiet site but with plenty for the kids to do, really family friendly.

Primitive grass and earth tent campsite

Liked The campsite was perfectly located in the South Downs National Park. It was great that you had lots of room in your pitch and the onsite shop was lovely. All the food we bought from there was fantastic and everyone that helped us on site was great too. The animals were very friendly too.

Disliked Ther was only one shower each. However this wasn't a problem at all for a weekend of camping.

Liked The family who owned the farm were so friendly and helpful, we’d love to go back again. Site was clean and also being on a farm it was a great adventure for my young children, getting up close and personal with the animals was brilliant! Plus the coffee at their cafe was delicious :)
