Low Greenlands Holiday Park: Luxury glamping pods 1-3.

General

  • Peaceful site close to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales
  • Near the M6: 20 minutes' drive to Kendal, Morecambe or Kirkby Lonsdale
  • Dog-friendly site 100 yards from a farm shop and retail village

Can’t choose between the Dales and the Lakes? This conundrum comes up on many a northern break, so here's a site with a nifty location to keep your options open. Strange though it may seem, it turns out that a cracking way to explore national parks in Yorkshire and Cumbria is to settle down on the northern edge of Lancashire.

Low Greenlands Holiday Park is in Tewitfield, a peaceful village with perks including canalside walks, miniature golf and fresh farm produce. Although many pass through here on the way to jaunts in the Lakes and Dales, there's plenty to get up to in this part of the world: aquatic adventure is on hand at the local watersports centre (five minutes' drive), while Leighton Moss, a wildlife haven popular with twitchers, joggers and sketchers, is also close by (10 minutes).

This park makes a convenient base for all manner of stays, whether you're planning on spending your days locally or fancy roaming far and wide. There's a lot to like here, including spacious pitches, hillside views, handy laundry facilities and internet access. The site's pet-friendly rules, meanwhile, are good news for guests travelling with canine companions in tow. When the weather is fine, a good barbecue can't be beat: pick up supplies for alfresco eats at the local farm shop, 100 yards down the road.

Please note

Group bookings of 5 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Tents are not accepted at this park.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

A cable measuring at least 4 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Minimum spacing of 2 metres between pitches.

Thought this site was excellent, lovely and clean and couldn't fault it, people have mentioned about it being next to road but didn't disturb me and never had a problem, ideally situated for lakes or Yorkshire dales, I will return. Not much signal at times but wifi was excellent and TV not an issue.

Thought the pods we stayed in were really cute. They had almost everything we needed. It was nice to have somewhere to sit in the evening when the kids were in the bed and it was good to have all the kitchen set up and shower etc. A home away from home.

The site was quiet but other than that we had no real reason to venture into the site much beyond our little area.

Leigh was really helpful and had great customer service attitude. Nothing was too much trouble.

I think these pods are best suited to a couple rather than family of four.

    Disliked:

One major omission for me in the pod was the lack of a bin. There was a tiny bathroom bin but we could have done with a slightly larger kitchen bin.

Second suggestion would be to have some coat hooks on the wall somewhere. Somewhere to hang wet coats as in the Lake District it’s inevitable that rain happens and there is nowhere to hang coats.

Thirdly, the sofa bed would probably be the only reason we would not come back as a family of four. We let the kids have the main bed (which was comfy) so that we could stay up and watch TV but we had a terrible couple of nights sleep. The bars from the base of the sofa bed dug right in your back and it was too small for two adults to share.

Finally, there is no ventilation other than the front door and bathroom window at the back and so it got a little stuffy in there with 4 of us. The site provided a fan but there was no plug near enough to the bed and the cable wasn’t long enough. We managed though.

    Pod was newly decorated
    It was clean
Had almost all kitchen equipment needed
    Nice space between pods
Wooden bench for when nice to sit out at
    Linen and towels provided
Smooth entrance and access to the pod with key lock box and security gate

    Disliked:

    Needs a bin the pod
Could do with somewhere to hang wet clothes esp as in the lakes and likely to rain
Some rough edges of the joinery, our daughter cut her leg on the corner of the bed frame, could do with softening with sandpaper
Part of the ceiling was twisted and pulling out the nails
Curtains didn’t close together (could do with Velcro or magnetic strip sown into it
A lack of sheltered outdoor seating area for gathering with friends
Key pads for car park entrance too high for a low car, made for campervan high

A small and well maintained site07/31/2022

This site is lovely, small and well maintained. At the time of booking I was asked if I had any special requirements. I asked to be close to the toilet and shower block as my son is disabled. I couldn’t be any closer. I was in the pitch right next to the block. The pitch was hardstanding and level. The toilets and shower block were well maintained. The pitch was hardstanding with enough room for our caravan, awning and our car. We were left to our own devices but when my husband and daughter met the owners they were pleasant and helpful. In the future we plan to go Scotland so will stop over here again for a night or 2 to break the journey up.

Local attractions

For kid-pleasing times, make Greenlands Farm Village your first port of call (100 yards from site). Miniature golf, a playground, archery and cuddly farm animals are all on the cards here (there's also a garden centre, restaurant and well-stocked farm shop for grownup guests). For a family-friendly day at the beach, head to Morecambe Bay (20 minutes' drive), where adventurous types can sort watersports and fishing adventures.

Green-fingered guests heading up to the Lakes should call in at Levens Hall (15 minutes), a historic house near Kendal with top-notch topiary. Kendal (20 minutes) is an artsy town on the edge of the national park, a leisurely drive from spots like Lake Windermere (15 minutes from Kendal or 25 minutes from site) and Cartmel Fell (25 minutes or 30 minutes).

Most trips down to the Dales, meanwhile, will pass through Kirkby Lonsdale, a market town on the river Lune (20 minutes). Stop off here to admire the scenery at Ruskin's View or for a stroll over the Devil's Bridge, or carry on for outdoorsy attractions like Hardraw Force and Malham Cove (both about an hour from site).
