Bow Laithe Caravan Site: Hardstanding and grass pitches

General

  • Well-maintained and peaceful adults-only site in the Forest of Bowland
  • A 10-minute drive to Clitheroe; half an hour to Skipton
  • Views to Pendle Hill and River Ribble; pubs within walking distance

Bow Laithe Caravan Site is a small peaceful adults-only site surrounded by lovely Lancashire countryside on the edge of the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and five minutes’ drive from Bolton-by-Bowland.

This is a splendid location for walks and cycling nearby – once you’ve done extensive explorations of the forest, you can expand your horizons into the Yorkshire Dales National Park with a drive of half an hour or so.

And it’s also a splendid location for taking in the scenery without having to even get up from your pitch: the site has views out over Pendle Hill and the River Ribble, which flows just past the park. If it’s just a short stroll you’re after, perhaps a wander to one of the two pubs within a 20-minute walk would fit the bill?

Rather spend an alfresco evening on your pitch? You’re welcome to light up a barbecue to cook your dinner and warm your hands by – supplies can be picked up at the various supermarkets in Clitheroe, 10 minutes’ drive away. Kids may have been asked to stay away but you’re allowed to bring dogs along to share your break at Bow Laithe.

Visited in our Campervan. Well set out pitches. Hard standing with electric hook up. Fantastic views in front of us. Very little light pollution and had a great view of the night sky when it was a clear night.
Was as described on pitch up and there is a road behind some of the pitches but to be honest it didn’t disappoint and the views made up for it
Lovely quiet location sheep grazing in front of you And a walk down to the river directly from the site through the sheep’s field (whellys needed) dog friendly good location to go exploring from
As described on pitch up the shower block and toilet in the process of being built was ok for our weekend stop. Will definitely go back for longer visits once the showers and toilets up and running the only reason didn’t give excellent as was no toilet and showers but will next time

We found the road to be too noisy in our pop top campervan. It was odd how busy it was all night, cars and trucks. I imagine it would be OK in a caravan.

Tidy site on a working farm with a short walk to Sawley over fields. Friendly welcome from the farmer. Only 6 miles to cycle or drive to Gisburn forest. Great for walkers or cyclists.

    Disliked:

There was a bit of road noise. Didn't particularly bother us as we were out and about. If you intend to just sit by your campervan then you may feel differently. It is a new site with much potential. Currently no showers but 1 portaloo. Again not an issue for us as used our own facilities anyway. Has drinking water point and Elsan waste disposal. Farmer said plans are in place to build facilities soon.

Beautiful country side and the site was lovely. The pitches were nice and level. Great view of Pendle Hill and a short drive to the trough of Bowland with a drive to Lancaster and on to Morecombe Bay. Nearest town was Clitheroe everything you need there. Would definitely stay again. We came in from York and the campsite was very easy to find. Water and waste onsite handy porta loo as well just in case. We really enjoyed the peace and quiet loved it. Pub in Sawley was really nice to.
