What customers say

Poplar Grove Farm is lauded for spotless facilities, roomy sites, and welcoming staff. Guests love the clean, modern restrooms. Its tranquil vibe, plus a playground and fishing lake, make it great for families. Farm animals delight kids. Minor noise or facility updates were occasionally mentioned but didn't spoil the fun.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked So so much to like. What a wonderfully maintained site. Toilet facilities immaculate. Plenty of space for the children to play.
Each tent pitch was spacious and level. Would happily stay here again and intend to. Site was easy to find.
The alpacas and chicken run offered great attraction for the children.
Incredibly peaceful at the respectful curfew time of 10:30.

Disliked Very low pressure in the showers. Also, the bottles of hand wash was actually hand sanitiser, not great for sensitive skin, and no hand wash in the wall dispensers.

Shepherd's hut (no pets, premium)

Liked The site is lovely and clean and is quiet most of the time. The toilet and shower facilities are good and are generally clean and most people clean up after themselves. The shepherd's hut was nice and clean

Disliked The steps up to the shepherd's hut needed replacing. It was advertised as 2 single beds and a double but was 2 doubles. The top bunk had no safety rail so not really suitable for children

Local attractions

Garstang (the world's first Fairtrade Town, food fact fans) is a few minutes' drive or two miles' walk from Poplar Grove and comes with seven pubs and three restaurants; have a duke too at the ruins of 15th-century Greenhaugh Castle overlooking the town. The village of Scorton, three miles from base, has a pub, garden centre, café, and restaurant: if you're around during the May bank holiday, roll along to the Bike and Barrows Festival and the Scorton Music Festival for wheelbarrow racing, sheep racing and other shenanigans. To the east of Garstang, the old hunting ground of the Forest of Bowland is now an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty landscaped by moorland, fells and valleys, with endless opps for walking, cycling, fell running and wildlife watching (not all at once, and look out for the hen harriers…). The Bowland Visitor Centre, with info on the area's activities and events, is in Beacon Fell Country Park. A 20-minute drive will land you at either Blackpool (south east) or Lancashire's county town of Lancaster (north), with a fair good time to be had at the former and a load of historical sightseeing available at the latter. Preston is about 25 minutes' drive south. To investigate a bit further afield, the watery wonders of the Lake District are about an hour's drive away.
