General

  • Scenic rural location on a 160-acre working farm
  • A 20-minutes' drive from both Blackpool and Lancaster
  • Forest of Bowland and Beacon Fell Country Park within 10 miles

You'll find reasons aplenty why this park is proving pretty popular with those seeking to pitch up in the north west: its position is pretty excellent, its vibe relaxed, and its team very friendly indeed.

Poplar Grove Farm Caravan Park is a 160-acre working family farm, just 12 miles from Blackpool for those who like illuminating hols, and halfway between Lancaster and Preston for city sightseers. Even closer (and filled with pubs and restaurants), the old market town of Garstang is a couple of miles away on the River Wyre: river fishing ahoy…

And for hikers, bikers and scenic view seekers, the unspoiled countryside of the Forest of Bowland and vistas of the Bowland Fells can be reached within 11 miles – or take yourself out into the surrounding Lancashire countryside: miles of walks and bike trails are all around.

All guests have access to a modern toilet block with two showers and two toilets for both ladies and gents; the site also has a chemical disposal point.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

Group bookings of 6 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

Bookings must not be for more than 30 consecutive nights.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

A cable measuring at least 25 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Cabin was cute and warm, comfy beds. Liked fire pit being available we just didn't get the option to use it due to bad weather.

    Disliked:

Flies in cabin, and we didn't know where a drinking water tap was. And didn't like washing dishes in cold water. Wifi was advertised but didn't get given password code. Welcome pack may be useful.

We had a wonderful stay at Poplar Grove Farm Caravan Park, the site is very spacious, has a choice of stays and the owner - Summer had great communication with us upon arrival. We stayed during the tier 3 COVID Restrictions, everything was contact free and we barely saw anyone. We had a very relaxing stay, great for a peaceful family break, great location. 100% recommend.

We were so cosy, loved the comfort and quirkiness. As it is heated it didn't matter that it was cold outside. There is a great play area for the kids. Fabulous location, Garstang is so quaint and ideal for visiting local attractions. Plenty of places to eat within close driving distance. We will definitely be coming back. Lovely staff who left us instructions to make our stay seemless. Can't wait to visit again.

The staff were very kind and friendly also the hut we stayed in was very clean and had lots of space for a good price. My children also had a nice time playing on the park equipment.

    Disliked:

I found that sometimes the toilets were not very well equipped eg by the end of our stay there was no toilet roll. But this was not the case on our previous stay.

The little fire was on upon arrival, the hut was toasty and warm and very clean. The hut was really well set out and the top bunk had a child safety side on.

Everything you need...toaster, kettle, microwave, fridge and tea and coffee sachets :)

Fire pit and picnic bench outside the hut and reception sell wood logs. Perfect for a relaxing evening under the stars.

The shower and toilet building was clean and also warm with heating

Local attractions

Garstang (the world's first Fairtrade Town, food fact fans) is a few minutes' drive or two miles' walk from Poplar Grove and comes with seven pubs and three restaurants; have a duke too at the ruins of 15th-century Greenhaugh Castle overlooking the town.

The village of Scorton, three miles from base, has a pub, garden centre, café, and restaurant: if you're around during the May bank holiday, roll along to the Bike and Barrows Festival and the Scorton Music Festival for wheelbarrow racing, sheep racing and other shenanigans.

To the east of Garstang, the old hunting ground of the Forest of Bowland is now an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty landscaped by moorland, fells and valleys, with endless opps for walking, cycling, fell running and wildlife watching (not all at once, and look out for the hen harriers…). The Bowland Visitor Centre, with info on the area's activities and events, is in Beacon Fell Country Park.

A 20-minute drive will land you at either Blackpool (south east) or Lancashire's county town of Lancaster (north), with a fair good time to be had at the former and a load of historical sightseeing available at the latter. Preston is about 25 minutes' drive south.

To investigate a bit further afield, the watery wonders of the Lake District are about an hour's drive away.

Must see

  • Beacon Fell Country Park (10.2 kilometers)
  • Forest of Bowland (16.7 kilometers)
  • Lancaster Castle (17.8 kilometers)

National Trust

  • Rufford Old Hall (28.0 kilometers)
