With a spectacular backdrop of lakeland fells such as Blencathra, Skiddaw and Latrigg, The Willows is a gorgeous spot for adults-only caravan or campervan holidays in the Lake District National Park. Set between Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lake (about five minutes’ drive to either), this farm site is just outside the village of Braithwaite (10 minutes’ walk), and also five minutes’ drive from the cafés and galleries of Keswick (easily accessed via the A66). On site, you can buy essentials such as free-range eggs, fresh milk, butter and a selection of dairy produce. Most other basics (including food for barbecues) can be found at the local shop (10 minutes’ walk), which is open seven days a week. There’s a pub and a tearoom in Braithwaite too. The rural setting of The Willows combines with modern amenities in the wooden shower block to make your stay both convenient and peaceful. Dogs are more than welcome, and you can stretch your legs (or paws) on walking trails accessed right from the pitches. Please just keep your dogs on leads around the site as there are farm animals in the vicinity.

Liked The simplicity and size of the site; EHU and water available on the pitches along with a good (free) shower and toilets with loo roll always available.

The sites location to Keswick and access to public transport was a real draw along with the footpaths available from site.

Absolutely perfect spot!

Disliked Nothing the site has control over; just a dog owner allowing their dog to run around from their safari tent.

Liked Lovely little campsite in a great location. Walks to Keswick and the Lakes or a bus just across the road.
Free WiFi was a great addition.

Disliked Mixed recycling facilities would be good.

Liked The showers were warm and the dish washing facilities were good.
The location to Keswick is good and there are some good restraunts in Braithwaite village. The owners are helful and polite.

Disliked The pitches are small. not really space for an awning. The site is close to an inductrial area so the site is noisy with work people during the day. This in not condusive if you want to have a peaceful sit outside. The work people were poilite. The field to run a dog had cows in it so should not really be mentioned in emails. The passing place need to be larger on the road in.

Liked Great spot for fell walks from Braithwaite - our main reason for booking. Toilets/showers were clean. Wifi was good. Walking distance to pubs/restaurants. Fairly quiet - noise from A66, but expected that due to proximity. There are shepherd huts and safari tents with hot tubs too. Good communication with hosts via messages/email.

Disliked No washing up facility - didn't spot that when I booked it. We managed to do washing up in our awning.

Liked Stayed for just one night. Basically it's just a car park on a farm .
It served the purpose as it was just a stop over for us.
Toilet facilities were clean.
There was a field which we could use to let our dog run free when the sheep were not around. No personal contact with the owners of the site but they were there if needed.

Beautiful scenery but super low score for Location it’s altogether contradictory. You booked the pitch knowing it was fully Hard standing and with over 100 photos to look at of the fully
Hard standing site we are before booking ? Our sheep wander wherever they want to depending on their mood they don’t affect anyone using our field, and wouldn’t be allowed in that field if they posed a problem. Its £30 a night and the vast majority of feedback relates to the amazing views and clean facilities so I will continue to focus on that as that’s exactly what the site is, lindsey

When visiting Keswick (five minutes’ drive), be sure to stop at the Derwent Pencil Museum, which explores the history of this humble writing tool and other art materials – with a wide range available at the on-site shop. Afterwards, make your way to the shore of Derwentwater for a canoeing or rowing expedition, or a cruise around the lake. Lake District Wildlife Park (10 minutes) is the place for a meditative walk with an alpaca, a falconry experience or a meet-and-greet session with meerkats, lemurs or tapirs. It’s also possible to witness feeding sessions with lynx and red pandas, and to take part in assorted craft workshops. Among the activities at Honister Slate Mine (half an hour), in the foothills of Dale Head, are underground tours of the mine (including one with a spooky haunted theme, and another where you get to scale the walls of the cavern) and thrilling outdoor pursuits such as a via ferrata climbing route and the null Bridge, high above the Borrowdale Valley.
