  • Working farm site in the Lake District with stunning fell views
  • Just off the A66 road in Threlkeld, a 10-minute drive from Keswick
  • Blencathra, Skiddaw and Helvellyn ranges within 20-minute drive
Looking for a lush location to settle down in while exploring Lakeland? Step foot in the family-run Setmabanning Caravan Park, then step off site towards top spots like Keswick and the Castlerigg Stone Circle (10 minutes’ drive). This site really is very easy on the eye: it’s got spectacular views of Blencathra and the surrounding fells, making it fab for frolicking about the Lake District (or just having a bit of R&R in a rural bolthole). During a break here, the more energetic among your travel crew could tackle the Blencathra, Skiddaw and Helvellyn ranges, all within about a 20-minute drive, while strollers seeking easier trails might prefer the pretty footpaths and cycle tracks around the local valley and towards Keswick. Sticking to the site is always an option too – being a working farm, there’s lots to see and do, whether it’s watching the sheep being sheared and the cows going out into the fields with their calves or feeding the chickens and ducks as they wander by. When it comes to filling your own stomach, it’s a 25-minute walk to the centre of the nearest village, Threlkeld, which has two country pubs serving Cumbrian food and ales. Meals are also to be had at the golf club, and the Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum (10 minutes) is worth a quick nosey around as well.

FHU gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Quiet site, very spacious pitches (for our campervan and awning, plus plenty of space to sit out).
Authentic working farm, exactly as described.
The scenery is outstanding, short walk to a couple of pubs or a slightly longer walk (4 miles) into Keswick.

Disliked Difficult to say what was disliked as we had read the description and reviews so we’re fully aware of the type of site we were visiting.

FHU gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Pitch size, quiet site, very convenient for Threlkeld & Keswick, local paths for walking dogs, the 'honesty box' farm shop.

Disliked Men's showers, cold and little to no water pressure. Disappointing. Apparently the women's showers were hot and worked okay according to my wife. Couldn't quite give a 10 rating, sorry.

FHU gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked The location is really great for exploring the North of the Lakes. On a working farm with sheep passing through each day. Great walks from the site. 4 mile off road walk to Keswick. Nice little farm shop on site with local produce. Our Pitch was huge! We fit our caravan and awning as well as a motorhome and awning and a car on it!

FHU gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Everything. The location was perfect! It was so peaceful and you are across the road from the start of the cycle path that takes you into Keswick. The pitches are large and flat and the shop is well stocked with local produce. Some reviews have talked about the showers and toilets negatively but the campsite is on a working farm and whilst the facilities are old they are clean. There is no shortage of hot water and the shower pressure is brilliant, just what you need after a long day exploring all this beautiful location has to offer. We will definitely be back.

FHU gravel travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely quiet area with a brilliant little honesty shop, plenty of walks and dog friendly. My kids also enjoyed seeing the animals, including the pet ducks and geese. Brilliant views from the site of Blencathra and felt safe for the kids to walk around however it is a working farm so there’s was a few sheep moves.

Disliked Toilet block needs some serious renovation. Male shower leaking continuously and wasn’t the cleanest. I chose not to use the showers for the kids and instead used the one in my van. If you don’t have a shower in your van you can use especially for children then I’d avoid tbh.

Local attractions

The site is on a cycle path leading to Keswick, so you could either drive to town (10 minutes) or ride there by bike. Once you’ve arrived, have a left-of-field hour or so learning about the history of pencils at the Derwent Pencil Museum before gazing at artefacts dug up from around Lakeland in the Keswick Museum & Art Gallery. Just on the outskirts of town is the Castlerigg Stone Circle, dating back as far as the Neolithic area; check this historic spot out, then trudge up to the 2,848-foot Halls Fell Top at the peak of Blencathra. The mighty mountain ranges of Skiddaw (20 minutes’ drive) and Helvellyn (10 minutes) are also local to the site if you’re up for another hiking challenge. As you’re in the Lake District, you’ll surely want to be inspecting some of the area’s bodies of water too. The closest to Keswick is Derwent Water (15 minutes) – ace for boat trips around the Theatre by the Lake – but Thirlmere (10 minutes) and Ullswater (20 minutes) are within easy reach as well.
