  • Gated dog-friendly site on a farm five minutes’ drive from Pickering
  • North York Moors National Park five minutes’ drive; Whitby 35 minutes
  • Playful farmyard animals and picnic tables on site
On the outskirts of the market town of Pickering (five minutes’ drive or a 35-minute walk), Brigham Park Farm is a small, family-friendly site on a working farm. There are many things to commend it, not least its location: staying here puts you within an hour of several North Yorkshire attractions – from North York Moors National Park (five minutes) and the Howardian Hills National Landscaoe (25 minutes), to a stretch of coastline with sandy expanses like Scarborough (35 minutes) and wildlife sanctuaries like RSPB Bempton Cliffs (55 minutes). Having established that there’ll be plenty to keep you and the brood (and the dog, who’s welcome here) occupied, you might be interested to know what’s on site. You’ll be sharing the grounds with assorted livestock, including inquisitive goats, which the children might enjoy feeding (food is available on request). There’s lots of room for children to chase each other and play tag or kick a ball around – but please ensure they keep to the area where there are no pitches. And if you’re concerned about security, it might relieve your worries to know that the premises are secure and gated. Amenities include a modern and well-maintained toilet and shower block and an outdoor area with picnic tables. Each pitch has a drinking water point. Don’t fancy looking after the campfire or the barbecue? The nearest pub (just over a five-minute walk away) runs themed nights, including Curry Thursdays and Fish Fridays, plus a Sunday carvery.

What customers say

Highly-rated family campsite. Welcoming hosts, farm animals a hit with kids. Clean facilities, secure entry, spacious pitches with water/electric. Some find showers small. Overall great experience, most plan to return. Minor road noise/farm smells noted.

Power optional grass campervan or tent campsite

Liked The campsite is set in a nice location for surrounding villages.
There are animals on the site (pigs, goat, horse and rabbits) for the children to see. The goats even come out at night.
Fire pits and bbqs allowed.
Large pitches with a good sized communal space in the middle.
Gated.

Disliked Rubbish was left on the pitch - plastic cutlery, used plasters, gel sachets, wrappers and cigarette butts. Possible some of this could have been blown in but some of it was pushed into the grass as if it had been left previously. Real shame about the rubbish - previous campers/ pitch had not been tidied.

Not the sites fault but the bathrooms definitely could be cleaner - more about courtesy of other campers.

Noise of others guests on pitch next to us. Beyond 11pm - not great for campers with young children.

Liked Amazing campsite ! Clean toilets, showers and all communal areas. My kids had the best time! Feeding the animals, running round the field my nearly 2 year old son spent that much time sat next to the pigs I think he thinks he is one now! The owners are absolutely lovely! Both so helpful and easy to talk too! Would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Power optional grass campervan or tent campsite

Liked Lovely location, nice enclosed field. Automatic gates which can only be controlled via mobile phone so kids or dogs can't accidentally stray out. The pitches are well away from the exit too.

Indvidual water hookup right next to the pitch was a bonus, plus the electric hookup.

The pitches are huge - minimum of 10x10 metres, we had a 7.5 x 3m tent plus a porch with bags of room to spare. I love that the middle area is kept clear for playing. The pitches aren't allowed parking but you can drive on and off to pitch up / pack up. Really makes the site look a lot tidier.

Loved having the animals to see and play with. My 2 girls loved the pigs and I was chuffed when the sheep and goats came through.

Showers and toilets were clean, well lit and not too far from the pitches which was very welcome overnight. Also checked and cleaned regularly which I saw a few times.

Very friendly owners too, they pop round to chat with everyone from time to time which is a nice touch.

The recent dry and hot weather unfortunately prevented us from having a fire which can't be helped, the site were adhering to government guidance which is good to see.

This was our first family camping trip and we loved it despite some rain on the last 2 days. We will definitely look to book again

Power optional grass campervan or tent campsite

Liked The animals on the farm, my kids absolutely loved going to see them all day long. Location is lovely, nice and quiet. Secure site so no one can enter.

Disliked The lady who owned it didn’t really take a shine to us. Because we arrived early we had to pay an extra £10 each to get in early. We didn’t realise you had to pay an extra £10 for a pup tent, although the only reason we brought it was so our two youngest could go to the toilet during the night rather than walking across the field to the toilet. The sewerage smell coming from the toilets was absolutely vile! Couldn’t park cars next to the tents while staying there. Vending machine was extremely expensive £2 for a pack of super noodles and £1 for a tiny box of cereal. £1 donation to use the showers. Didn’t hardly see the owners only when she came to complain about something we had brought. Won’t be coming again, as we thought we were being watched all the time everything we did she wasn’t pleased with. Just total greed.

Local attractions

From Pickering you can catch the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for a heritage train ride through the distinctive moorland landscape. Disembark at Goathland (which might look familiar if you’ve seen the first Harry Potter film) or ride all the way to the Whitby terminus. Flamingo Land Resort (10 minutes’ drive) has thrill rides like multi-looped roller coasters and vertiginous drop towers, plus family-friendly attractions like tractor rides and a soft-play area in the shape of a pirate ship. On hot days, the kids might be drawn to the water-play zone, and there’s also a zoo with penguins, lemurs and other animals. Whitby (35 minutes) is known for the hilltop remains of a 14th-century abbey, which is said to have inspired Bram Stoker to write Dracula. After visiting the house where Captain James Cook (of South Pacific exploration fame) lived as a young man (now a museum), make your way to the Whalebone Arch for views over the harbour.
