  • Quiet site surrounded by fields, five minutes’ drive from Withernsea
  • Away from roads and within walking distance of two nature reserves
  • On-site pond for fishing (at an additional fee) and watching wildlife
Calling all walkers and wildlife spotters… fancy pitching up away from roads and traffic, surrounded by open fields? With low light pollution for starry skies when it's clear at night? Take a look at Garth Farm Caravan and Camping, a back-to-basics site in Hollym that's all about getting away from the day-to-day and unwinding in quiet, green surroundings. This family-run East Yorkshire site is a five-minute drive from Withernsea’s coast and within walking distance of two nature reserves. Toffling Hill Reserve (a few minutes’ walk away) has grassy areas, boundary trees and a shallow pond to explore. Continue your amble for a further 15 minutes to hit the woodland, meadow and open water of Hollym Carrs Reserve, where you should certainly keep an eye out for a variety of birds, mammals and insects while you wander. Back on site, there's a large playing field and a fishing pond for guests to fish from (for an additional fee) or sit around and watch the wildlife do its thing. This isn't a big holiday park, more of a quiet back-to-basics set-up that prioritises nature, but there are helpful on-site amenities including separate male and female toilets (two each), plus two hot-water showers and an extra toilet in the large family shower room. Food supplies can be picked up in nearby Withernsea, which has a couple of supermarkets, or Patrington (a five-minute drive), where it's highly recommended that you head to the local butcher to pick up bits for a barbecue. For those with a no-cooking-on-holiday rule, there’s a local pub serving food and drink, and a coffee shop dishing up homemade cakes and sandwiches at Crossroads Garden Centre; both are around 10 minutes’ walk away.

Powered grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked The location was ideal for many beaches. The facilities were spotless and they had everything we needed for a long stay. The fridge and freezer were appreciated and the family shower room perfect with small kids.
The owners were around daily and very accessible and friendly when needed.
The children loved the play area (it could use some more swings if possible, but they shared quite well!) and the chicks in the run near our pitch were sweet.
A fantastic site and I’ll be glad to come back.

Local attractions

Swap the rural scenes for seaside ones with a trip to Withernsea (less than 10 minutes' drive). Along with arcades, shops, cafés and, of course, the beach, there’s also a lighthouse here with a museum; energetic visitors can clamber up the 144 steps to the top for pretty views. Watery activities continue at Hornsea Mere, the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire (40 minutes), with rowing, sailing, boat trips and fishing. It’s a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Protection Area for birds, so it’s a great spot for birdwatching, too. There are more sights to be had on dry land, such as the Elizabethan Burton Constable Hall & Grounds (35 minutes). At the former RAF Holmpton (less than 10 minutes), delve into the underground nuclear bunker. Day trips to Hull city (40 minutes) come stacked with kid-friendly attractions, including The Deep aquarium (home to more than 3,500 marine creatures).
