Garth Farm Caravan and Camping: Aerial view of the site

General

  • Quiet, family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from Withernsea
  • Within walking distance of two wildlife-packed nature reserves
  • Aquarium and small zoo a 40-minute drive away in Hull

Calling all walkers and wildlife spotters… fancy pitching up within strolling distance of not one, but two nature reserves? That’s the deal at Garth Farm Caravan and Camping in Hollym, less than 10 minutes’ drive from Withernsea’s coast and 40 minutes from Hull.

It's all trees and open fields in the surrounds of this family-run East Yorkshire site, and the pleasing rural views continue at Toffling Hill Reserve (a few minutes’ walk), a place of grassy areas, boundary trees and a shallow pond to explore. Continue your amble for a further 15 minutes to hit the woodland, meadow and open water of Hollym Carrs Reserve, where you should certainly keep an eye out for a variety of birds, mammals and insects while you wander.

Supplies can be picked up in nearby Withernsea, which has a couple of supermarkets, or Patrington (a five-minute drive), where it's highly recommended that you head to the local butcher to pick up bits for a barbecue back at base.

For those with a no-cooking-on-holiday rule, there’s a local pub serving food and drink, and a coffee shop dishing up homemade cakes and sandwiches at Crossroads Garden Centre; both are around 10 minutes’ walk away.

Facilities here are kept on the low-key side to ensure minimal impact on the surrounds, but the basics are covered in the toilet block on site.

Please note

The park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Breed-specific legislation (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Group bookings of 2 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 3 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The peacefulness was lovely as were the chickens! Campsite well laid out and owner very friendly and showers wonderfully hot and clean (other than pigeon). Location is a plus as near everywhere but so quiet. Good value for money and the eggs and honesty box are a really nice touch.

    Disliked:

Weather was appalling but that is nobody’s fault! Pitch a bit unlevel but to be honest that is nitpicking a little, pidgeon got trapped in toilets and pooed everywhere so maybe a self closing door as this happened twice but again nobody’s fault. Also one website states that site has WiFi pitch up states it doesn’t and it doesn’t which is fine but websites need to be clear (think it was Facebook that stated had it)

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay - you will have to visit us again in the summer time when hopefully we wont have the horrible weather that we have had this week.

We do not offer WiFi on site due to the location of the site there is no where that we could incorporate this.

We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

The location was fabulous close to beach and SPurn POint whilst being in the quiet of the countryside.
Excellent pre- arrival information provided by Hannah which enabled us to pitch up and set up imediately.
Lovely quiet site small enough to be confortable and with enough space arround unit for caravan, awing and car.
Loved having water point and electric on pitch.
Site situated on a bridleway with access to woodlands and wildlife - loved seeing hares, deer, rabbits and a variety of birds

    Disliked:

Not enough facilities when the site was full.Lack of recycling points.Pitches aren't very level.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review and I am sorry that our site was not for you.
We do inform all of our guests before arrival that we are an old farm and the pitches are not going to be 100% level. We advise that levelling blocks will be required.
It is clear from our information how many toilets and showers we have so all guests know this information before they make a booking.
Due to the site being full when you where here and the constant misuse of the recycling bin - including dog waste, charcoal and general waste we decided to just keep the 1000L general waste bin for all waste.
I am a little disappointed that you gave our customer services and cleanliness a 2/5 as we had a lot of friendly chats while I was cleaning the facilities and while you where on site, along with discussions about the area and recommendations for good places to visit.

Great site , well managed , contacted me a week before to inform me on which pitch, directions etc, great communication, friendly owner,

    Disliked:

Facilities, Showers small with hardly any room to get dried . Mixed toilets no separate Male and Female toilets .

From the manager...

Thank you for your feedback, we appreciate any reviews left.

We feel that we have provided adequate shower space for all of our guests needs. The 2 standard shower spaces are suitable for showering and dressing, with plenty of hooks on the walls to hang clothing and towels, along with a stool and standing space to get dry and dressed. Should the standard room not fit a guests individual needs there is also a large shower room that is double the size.

As previously mentioned in regards to the toilets, as we are not on mains drainage we are limited to the toilets that we can have due to waste control and removal. Over the next few years we hope that we can add additional toilets but unfortunately it is not a simple process and cannot be done immediately.
We have made it clear from our Pitchup.com page that the facilities are shared so that guests are expecting this.

Kind Regard

Lots of useful information sent prior to arrival. Nice family run site with level pitches, plenty of room and good facilities. We loved seeing the cute little chickens wandering around the tents! Excellent location, just outside Withernsea - we took the bikes and really enjoyed cycling the quiet lanes off the beaten track. We also walked along the bridlepath from the site to the little nature reserve where we saw two hares. The Underground Bunker nearby is fascinating and also well worth a visit.

    Disliked:

Unisex washroom facilities felt a bit strange to start with but we soon got used to it, and it did seem a good idea for families with young children.

Local attractions

Swap the rural scenes for seaside ones with a trip to Withernsea (less than 10 minutes by car). Along with arcades, shops, cafés and, of course, the beach, there’s also a lighthouse here with a museum; energetic visitors can clamber up the 144 steps to the top for pretty views.

Anglers should make time for some fishing in Holmpton (less than 10 minutes), which has a couple of public fishing ponds. While you’re in the village, delve into the underground nuclear bunker at the former RAF Holmpton.

Watery activities continue at Hornsea Mere, the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire (40 minutes), with rowing, sailing, boat trips and fishing. It’s a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Protection Area for birds, so it’s a great spot for birdwatching, too.

There are more sights to be had on dry land, such as the Elizabethan Burton Constable Hall & Grounds (35 minutes).

Day trips to Hull city (40 minutes) come stacked with kid-friendly attractions, including The Deep aquarium (home to more than 3,500 marine creatures) and East Park, a public park with a small zoo and log flume ride.

Must see

  • The Deep (23.9 kilometers)
  • Ferens Art Gallery (24.5 kilometers)
  • Far Ings National Nature Reserve (33.0 kilometers)

National Trust

  • Maister House (24.0 kilometers)
