  • A 12-acre wildlife haven under 10 minutes’ drive from Pocklington
  • A 20-minute drive from York and half an hour from Castle Howard
  • Alpaca walks available; in a good stargazing area
It's lovely and remote at The Darling Woods Of May, a site set within 12 acres of wild woodland, meadows and alpaca paddocks in East Yorkshire. A wildlife haven on a small working alpaca farm, the site is just a 20-minute drive from historic York when you fancy re-visiting civilisation for some sightseeing, shopping or other everyday activities. For all your eating out and shopping needs, it's less than a 10-minute drive from the beautiful market town of Pocklington. It’s also on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, where there are some very nice walks to go on and, of course, stunning scenery to soak in. Home to friendly alpacas, The Darling Woods Of May can arrange alpaca walks and experiences for an additional fee (just note that dogs aren’t allowed due to their presence). Being quite remote, the farm is an excellent spot for stargazing. Should you want to take something home to remember your trip by, there's also a small gift shop on site.

Primitive grass tent campsite (wild)

Liked Oh my gosh, what a magical place. So peaceful and with lovely big pitches. Each pitch has a picnic bench and large parasol which was ideal for the June heatwave we had!

The toilets were very clean, I didn't use the shower but it looked very nice and someone we spoke to said it was good and hot.

Alpaca meet and greet was a real treat, they're so lovely!

Disliked No hot water at the washing up point or in the toilets

From the manager: Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review Ellie. So pleased you enjoyed your stay. It was lovely to meet you all!

Primitive grass tent campsite (wild)

Liked Clear communications, Easy check in, spacious car park& pitch sites.
Facilities just perfect and fit for purpose from the trolleys to take your belongings to your pitch to the toilet & shower unit.
Site & pitches well kept with your own bit of meadow land providing privacy between pitches - nice touch and of course the resident alpacas which are great to watch.

From the manager: Thanks for staying with us and for taking the time out to leave a review. Hope to see you again!

Primitive grass tent campsite (wild)

Liked Just the most beautiful stay. Great to have the picnic tables next to the pitches.
Beautiful site that is well kept but also wild enough for you to feel as close to nature as possible with plumbing!
The Alpacas are obviously stars of the show but Sophie and Simon were also very lovely!

From the manager: Thanks Amanda! Lovely to meet you - thanks for staying with us 🙂

Marie H.

Primitive grass tent campsite (wild)

Liked The site is beautiful, clearly a lot of care and thought has been put into the campsite by the owners. Plenty of space per pitch, not over crowded, lovely clean facilities, beautiful woodland surroundings, happy alpacas in the next field. Loads of space to kids to explore, have fun and make new friends and memories.

We had a really great time on an alpaca walk on the final day. The owners were so friendly, patient and knowledgeable about the alpacas and area. This made my daughter and niece have a special and memorable experience.

Would definitely recommend this lovely campsite ❤️ thank you

From the manager: Thank you Marie! Lovely to meet you all!
