Site entrance

  • Luxury cabins under 10 minutes’ drive from Pocklington
  • A 20-minute drive from York and half an hour from Castle Howard
  • Alpaca walks available; woodfired hot tub at each cabin
Drive right up to your luxury cabin at The Darling Woods Of May, a splendid and remote site set within 13 acres of wild woodland, meadows and alpaca paddocks. In addition to electricity and elegant ensuite facilities, your quarters also comes with their very own wood-fired hot tub (not to mention a nice, ready-to-use supply of firewood), so you can take a relaxing soak whenever you please. Bliss. A wildlife haven on a small working alpaca farm, the site is just a 20-minute drive from historic York and less than a 10-minute drive from the beautiful market town of Pocklington. It’s also on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, which provides plenty more destinations for adventures. Home to friendly alpacas, The Darling Woods Of May can arrange alpaca walks and experiences for an additional fee (just note that dogs aren’t allowed due to their presence).

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site (wild)

Liked: The site is beautiful, clearly a lot of care and thought has been put into the campsite by the owners. Plenty of space per pitch, not over crowded, lovely clean facilities, beautiful woodland surroundings, happy alpacas in the next field. Loads of space to kids to explore, have fun and make new friends and memories. We had a really great time on an alpaca walk on the final day. The owners were so friendly, patient and knowledgeable about the alpacas and area. This made my daughter and niece have a special and memorable experience. Would definitely recommend this lovely campsite ❤️ thank you

Liked: Everything! This is such a gorgeous campsite and we throughly enjoyed our stay. Sophie and Simon were very welcoming and friendly. The pitches are spaced out nicely with lovely views all around, especially in the evening for sunset. It is very dark at night and perfect for stargazing. The toilets are super clean, and the shower was great! The little shop in reception has lots of lovely little gifts - we couldn’t resist the alpaca teddies! Our boys enjoyed exploring the woodland area - adding to a den that they found. Before we left we did the Alpaca meet and greet. What a fantastic experience! It was really interesting and we all had plenty of time to feed and interact with the adorable alpacas. We will definitely be returning here and recommending it to everyone! Thank you ☺️

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site (wild)

Liked: Friendly and extremely peaceful. On arrival I was met by a lovey lady who took time out to tell me where was nice to eat. The woodland walk around the camp was beautiful, with alpacas to admire. It was just me (dad) and my daughter this time, but will definitely come back with the rest of my family to this most beautiful, peaceful and tranquil campsite. Simple yet peaceful.

Disliked: Nothing at all.

Unpowered grass tent or motorhome site (wild)

Liked: Lovely little site, beautiful surroundings, very peaceful and relaxing. We were originally only booked for two nights but we loved it that much we stayed an extra night, Hosts are very friendly and welcoming, I booked a meet and greet with the beautiful alpacas and they taught me so much about them, I would highly recommend booking to either meet and greet or walk the alpacas, alpaca cuddles are the best. Toilets and Shower are immaculately clean and very close to the pitches so you don't have to walk far in the dark, Our daughter joined us on the last night and we went for a walk down the tree lane in the dark and fed a little stray kitten who had come into our tent and saw a hedgehog and other wild life, We will definitely be returning, we loved every minute. Thank you so much Sophie and hubby ❤️

Disliked: Nothing at all to dislike, this a wild camp setting, No ehu so if you need electric don't stay here, it's perfect as a wild back to basics experience, quite, relaxing and peaceful, sit and enjoy a campfire on a night and watch the beautiful dark sky and stars 10/10 rating definitely

The Heartwood cabin (adults only)

Liked: Lovely unspoiled site. Very welcoming. Suitable for those who prefer a more laid back camping trip. Most of my family were in tents, but I had one of the shepherds huts, which was a treat.

Disliked: I would have loved access to an electric socket. USB charging points sre great but I do like my hairdryer at times!
