  • Small rural East Yorkshire site in the hamlet of Great Hatfield
  • Three miles from the coast at Hornsea; Hull 25 minutes' drive
  • Next to the Trans Pennine Trail for walking and cycling
Heading to Hull, hitting the beach in Hornsea or taking on the Trans Pennine Trail? Whatever it is that brings you to this part of the country, Tower Hill Caravan and Camping makes an excellent base for an East Yorkshire break. This well-kept and peaceful rural site is in the hamlet of Great Hatfield, about three miles from the coast and the seaside town of Hornsea. It’s also got the Trans Pennine Trail passing very close by, so makes a handy place to bed down for a night or two at the start of your walk or bike ride. Tower Hill is a small site but it’s big enough to house a good collection of useful facilities, including a launderette, a washing-up area and toilet/shower facilities. It’s also got a wifi service that comes in particularly handy for planning days out or checking your walking/cycle routes. You’ll be allowed to bring along a barbecue to cook your meals here as long as it’s kept off the ground (no campfires though, please, for safety reasons). If you’d like someone else to do the cooking you may like to walk along the trail to the nearest pub, about 45 minutes away, or into Hornsea, an hour away, for pubs, cafés or a fish and chip supper on the beach. Hornsea’s also your nearest place for shops, and has various attractions including Bugtopia Zoo and boating on Hornsea Mere. Hull is about 25 minutes’ drive away for The Deep aquarium and the Streetlife Museum.

Power optional grass tent or trailer tent campsite

Liked Owner was lovely to and helpful when needed.
Toilets was clean and showers lasted longer then expected. Kitchen was clean. Basics was on site.

Disliked The nearest shop was a 45 minute walk which is expected seen as it's in a rural area but could do with a little shop on site. At the time we went everything looked like it was getting renovated. There was 1 trail to walk around but not much about it it's pretty dry and leads you to a big pea pod kind of patch that goes on for miles but all dried out and overgrown. The tent pitch was pretty small and not much choice to choose from.

Liked The peace & quiet. I like being away from people & in the countryside & during my 2 night midweek stay i was the only person on site so i had the whole place to myself. It was bliss.
The facilities room looked ok when i had a look around last night, my campers self contained so i didnt use them but the toilet areas looked a decent size, clean & well equipped.
If id realised earlier there was a kitchenette bit with washing machine etc i may have used that but thats my fault for not looking sooner.
The bases for the caravans & motorhomes are great, sized for statics by the look, level, with electric, water & drainage on the pitches.
The signage into the place from the road was good, clear & easy to follow.
The tent field looked good also, its right next door to the camper field seperated by trees & fencing.
20 minute bike ride into Hornsea 👍
I'd happily stay here again!

Disliked Not really dislikes because it didnt bother me & if id not gone wandering i wouldnt have seen much of it but theres a few areas surrounding the camping area used for storage of building materials & vehicles & alsorts on wasteland type ground. But if you dont wander & you'll not see it, simple as that.
Theres an old barn & a delapidated cabin used for mainly storage by the look of it as you enter the site but some old storage items & lots of wood is outside of the buildings & a missing door on approach exposes the dumping ground & doesnt look great.
Theres outdoor seating in a little courtyard infront of the facilities room but its in the same area as the wood dump so could do with fencing off from that & generally updating as it could be a nice area. It once was by the look of it but all the tables & chairs have seen better days.
Non of it bothered me as it was but it would put some people off.

Liked We have just done 10 nights here and loved it ! This was our 2nd visit to this site. I would recommend this site. We will definitely book again.

The site is perfect for a quite relaxing holiday. The pitch sizes are plenty big enough and are all hard standing, fully serviced pitches.
The grounds are well maintained around the pitches.

The facilities are clean and maintained. If the facilities were not clean, this was due to guest leaving them unclean, which there was no need for. The facilities were cleaned Daily during our stay.

There is a washer and dryer, microwave and kettle in the kitchen, all nice and clean
The site has 2 showers and 2 toilets, plus toilet with baby changing facilities.

The owner us helpful and we spoke to him a few times during our stay.
The WiFi on site is excellent.

Liked Peaceful, river, wildlife, walks, camp field for adults only and not a peek after 10.30 all you can here is sheep and other lovely wild animals, best place we have stayed and will definitely be returning! There is a family site too that also goes along side the river, the river is little wire fence going round for safety but dose not obstruct your view of the river, there is a little village 15 mins walk but dose not feel like that feels like your still on camp site wile walking there, chippy pizza shop, co-op and a pub that sells food at the little village, nice walk through beautiful fields all the way to low force and jumped off the water falls & cliffs.

Disliked Nothing, the place is a really good site with a shop, shower block, toilets a cleaning equipment room,

Liked Picked our own pitch (pointless in the end)

Disliked I payed for the pitch and they moved somebody else on it with me to share it, I had to take my awning down to fit them in, not good when I payed for the pitch. I assume they charge the other people for a pitch so they were recieving 2 payments for 1 pitch. Also, they have a list of dogs they don't allow, I saw about 5 which were on the list, some of them not on leads, when I complained I was met with well you only have one night left. I wont be returning.

Liked Unfortunately nothing

Disliked No security. No site maintenance or cleaning. Facilities were filthy and require updating. Fully serviced pitch was not usable as nappies stuffed down grey water drain making it unusable. Whole place needs major overhaul or closing down.

Local attractions

Hornsea is likely to be your first port of call – you can drive there in about five minutes, walk in 45 or cycle in 20. There’s a lovely sandy beach up here, with plenty of places to pick up fish and chips or ice creams, and several other attractions including Bugtopia Zoo, Honeysuckle Farm and boating on Hornsea Mere. The town is also home to a leisure centre with a swimming pool, and an outlet shopping village. For a wilder stretch of coast, head over to Mappleton beach (five minutes’ drive), or pack your binoculars and make your way to Flamborough Head (45 minutes) to look out for seabirds. To see marine life instead, head into Hull (25 minutes) for a day at The Deep aquarium (the free Streetlife Museum, home to all sorts of old vehicles, is well worth a visit too while you’re there…) Other places to visit in the area include Burton Constable Hall & Grounds (10 minutes) and the lovely town of Beverley (25 minutes), which is full of independent shops.
