  • Pub site on the edge of the pretty Yorkshire village of Reedness
  • Carvery Sundays and pizza night once a week
  • Ouse riverside walks and the Blacktoft Sands reserve very close by
Half measures? Not here. East Yorkshire's Half Moon Inn is fully sorted for location, facilities and popular Sunday roasts – how handy that you'll be pitching up right by a pub. Riverside walks along the handsome banks of the Ouse as well as twitching at the Blacktoft Sands RSPB reserve within five minutes' drive are among the many options for when you've worked your way through the pub menu and are seeking something slightly more active (if only to ensure your clothes still fit when your holiday comes to an end). And as local town Goole (10 minutes' drive) is an East Riding port town, it's an easy ride by car – or bike – to the Yorkshire coast for strolling upon the sands. But back to that menu. The pub is open for food from a general menu on Mondays to Saturdays (note that during low season, the pub's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays) or a full carvery on Sundays (do book a table for this latter, it's rightly popular). A stonebaked pizza night runs on Mondays (high season only) too and there are free meals for kids at certain times of the week, as well as evening entertainment for grownups awaits including quizzes and live music – fully expect to be spending quite some time in this friendly pub. The site has toilets, internet access and ice pack freezing. Barbecues (off ground only) are allowed, but you'll probably yearn to have meals in the pub every night: no point having a Yorkshire pub holiday in half measures…

Liked We had a great stay at The Half Moon Inn campsite.

The showers were nice and hot and the toilet facilities clean.

We chose this site as it meant we could meet up with family locally.

We ate in the pub each day and enjoyed the Sunday Carvery. The pub staff are very friendly as well as the locals who we spoke to.

We enjoyed walking along the river bank and visited Blacktoft Sands while we were there which we would thoroughly recommend.

Disliked Nothing

Liked Quite site mainly situated on the banks of the river Ouse . Walks from site with big skies and beautiful views. Bus service stops outside the pub to take you to Goole which is 3 miles away . Basic toilet facilities, fresh drinking water and chemical toilet emptying. Food in the restaurant was excellent and plentiful. We ate on Friday evening and had their wonderful carvery on Sunday before setting off for home. staff were friendly. We were. met by Andy, the owner on arrival and saw him around over the weekend cleaning etc. We didn’t use shower which is extra charge of£1.00 as have own on board.

Disliked This is obviously a popular site for several families to meet up for a weekend and they were quite loud at times but were quiet by 11pm .
Downside for us was no drive over grey waste disposal and the emptying point was too high for our drain hose so will invest in a water hog for next time. Pity some campers have no etiquette regarding rubbish as there were cigarette bits all over our pitch which as non smokers we found disappointing especially given the dry hot weather we have had and risk to nature.

Liked Easy to find arrived later in evening

Disliked The toilet and shower block needs updating. Site didn't feel secure and pub attached closed early and food only served till 3pm as was a Sunday. Signage in toilets a bit strange don't know if it was a joke or not but wouldn't encourage you to contact if there was an issue.pitch ok but hook up was 2 pitches away and no information provided for this so had to figure out ourselves. Better signage for facilities would be an improvement

Liked - food is fantastic and reasonallbly priced too.
- hardstanding electric pitch priced well.
- friendly, approachable owner and pub staff .
- quiet location set just behind the pub.
- has all the necessities: 240 hookup, elsan waste point, fresh water, washing area.

This was our 3rd visit to The Half Moon Inn and again we had another lovely weekend.

The owner is very friendly and approachable, regularly checking in with visitors to ensure everything is okay with your visit.
Large enough pitches for our 6m campervan as well as other larger vans that turned up during our stay.

Disliked Only thing we didn't like was that the pub wasn't open until 5pm but after having a casual conversation with the owner we completely understood the reasoning for times.

- not really a dislike but something to remember, pub food is fantastic and tables fill up fast so booking is required. Good sign of good food in our eyes but something to remember to do to avoid disappointment.

Local attractions

Set off from the site for strolls along the Ouse, along the riverside path to the villages of Whitgift and Ousefleet, a mile and two miles respectively, or further afield to Adlingfleet (four miles) or Fockerby and Garthorpe (each six miles away, and surely worth an extra dessert at the pub later). You can also opt to hike the three miles to Blacktoft Sands RSPB reserve, for more active hours wandering around the biggest tidal reedbed in England to spot the likes of marsh harriers and bitterns. Pick up the birdwatching challenge sheet from the centre's reception to see how many you can tick off; prizes are awarded for the best sightings. Guaranteed sightings are among the critters of Yorkshire Wildlife Park, 40 minutes' drive away just outside Doncaster: species to see here include lions, tigers, lemurs, baboons and the only polar bears living in an English zoo. Hull is 45 minutes away for shopping and sightseeing.
