Dog park

  • Dog-friendly touring park for caravans and motorhomes
  • A 20-minute drive from Southwold and the Norfolk Broads
  • Wooded area for dogs; a 20-minute walk from pubs and shops in the town
Is it quality time you’re looking for around Southwold, the Norfolk Broads and other top Suffolk and Norfolk spots? Halesworth Holiday Park is in Suffolk, but it's well placed for all sorts of outings in both Suffolk and Norfolk – it's a 20-minute drive from Southwold and The Broads, with destinations like Norwich, Bury St Edmunds and Great Yarmouth further out. It's a family-friendly set-up at this place, and dogs are welcome too (kept on a lead at all times and cleared up after, the site requests). The small wooded area at the rear of the site is handy for those shorter dog walks, and the coast and The Broads have more to offer on that front. How about those post-walk meals and ales? For that, take a 20-minute walk into Halesworth, a pleasant little town with pubs (and shops too). Halesworth Holiday Park is also five minutes’ drive away from a 190-acre golf course when you fancy teeing off. On site, facilities include a washing-up room, grey and brown wastewater disposal points, bins for rubbish and recycling, a long freshwater hose and a service point with a wastewater drain. There’s also a toilet block with ladies' and gents' loos, a good-quality shower and a disabled wet room that includes a toilet and shower, all with underfloor heating.

Liked The accessibility to this site is good - no twisty narrow lanes to negotiate.
The welcome from Mark and Kim was super personal, warm and engaging - they explained everything clearly, filled up my clean water and apologised for the "work in progress"
The shower (single) in the ladies was clean and accessible. The two toilets were clean.
There are static homes onsite - but the occupants don't use the facilities - so they are adequate.
I LOVED the woodland area to walk the dog - she loved it too. It's lovely and natural with primroses flowering at the moment
They have free laundry facilities- massive plus but I was only one night so didn’t use them.
They have full amps electricity and hard standing pitches which are spacious for a motorhome (but I don't have an awning addition)

Disliked The site is a work in progress under new management - they have recently laid new type 1 but the base hardcore is full of "junk" which Mark and Kim (only appointed this week) are trying to clear - this didnt spoil my stay - but people should be aware.
The pub isn't open yet - but should be soon.
The landscaping isn't complete - but they have plans to plant hedges etc
I got a WiFi code - but the router signal doesnt reach the pitches

Liked The only thing that I can say was ok was the toilet areas and wash room - clean and functional.

Disliked Too much to list really:
On arrival - There was nobody there to meet us, despite the email saying there would be. Had to take a punt and just choose a pitch.

Site - Drove to the pitch and the reality of what we saw was nothing like what was advertised. A bunch of static homes and then at the very back, clearly a newly laid area for caravans and motorhomes. Hideous area, didn't bother to get our chairs out on the 6x2 bit of grass and the gravel which was littered with debris of pipes, metal, plastic.

Wifi - Advertised free WiFi, but any available were password protected and of course nobody to actually ask.

Wooded walk for dogs - literally the smallest wood you've ever seen. Dog bin was overflowing.

Facilities - Males and female toilets. Males only had one toilet and one shower, ladies had two toilets and one shower. They were clean. There is an area to wash dishes and also washing machines, again, this was clean and well maintained. No other facilities.

Water - The water tap was so far from the pitches, a hose would not extend. When I tried the tap, it was not working anyway.

Bins - Main wheelie bins at the top of the site were overflowing.

Entertainment - Literally nothing to do, even kid playing with a ball near the pitch was taking a risk due to the hazards.

Liked Location in respect to places we like to visit in Suffolk like Southwold.
Halseworth town is very nice too.

Disliked Not as advertised on pitchup, definitely didn't have a holiday park feel.
Looked more like waste ground.
Nobody to greet you on site, just a phone contact for any problems, like when the electrics tripped twice.

Liked Nothing wouldn’t even give it one star but have to leave at least one to be able to post review

Disliked Drove in slow drove out quicker. Absolutely nothing like advertised. Pub is derelict been shut for 2 years. Phographs are from previous owners many years ago. Touring park looks like some one has dropped a lorry load of hardcore and driven out as fast as we did. All very untidy and unkept. Area behind pub looks like a breakers yard. Avoid at all costs. We arrived day before Good Friday busiest weekend of the year and were v lucky to get a pitch at another site local to this one or we would have had to drive home.

Liked Nothing....left after only one night!

Disliked Photos from approx 2 years ago apparently & bare no resemblance whatsoever to the so called 'Holiday Park ' now!!!
On arrival no-one to meet us, no info just a shut down pub, abandoned cars & caravans & overflowing bins. Started to think it was closed down.
Electric Hardstanding & grass pitches actually have just a small strip of VERY uneven grass which is totally unsuitable for awnings.
Toilets were actually clean but no loo roll or hand towels & Shower curtain was absolutely filthy. Disabled facilities locked & unusable.
This site should not be allowed to take people's money until it has sorted its many problems/issues out, some of which we have now found mentioned in reviews last year!!
It should also not be on Pitch up until it shows upto date photos showing the true state of this site. It doesn't even deserve the 1 star but 0 was not an option!!!!

Liked Large hardstanding pitch with EHU

Disliked Stayed previously and it was a nice site. Quite shocked at the change, the photos are not current. What was the touring pitches are now static caravans with the tourers moved to the far end. Disabled toilets locked. Mouldy shower curtain. No water at the tap nearest the touring pitches. Had we known of another site nearby we wouldn't have stayed

Liked Spacious pitches, close to Halesworth and good location for travelling around. Shower and toilet block was clean.

Disliked No reception and no staff visible on site. Since the inclusion on the site of nine +? static caravans, the motorhome pitches have been located to the far end of the site making the shower and toilet block quite a distance on a cold dark night. The water point, closest to the motorhome pitch, was not working. Clearly they are still working on site so maybe a new shower block maybe sited closer to the motorhome pitches.

Liked Toilets were clean, had WiFi and the maintenance man was very helpful. Halesworth was lovely and a 25min walk away

Disliked Wouldn’t say it was any type of holiday park, was a few lived in static caravans used as full time homes and we were parked between 2 of them, very noisy by the road at night and the coming and going of the people who lived there was quite loud.

Local attractions

Boating, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding or birdwatching on The Broads (20 minutes’ drive) take your fancy? Pedalling down the waterside trails there instead? Or taking your binoculars out to go birdwatching around the waterways or at RSPB Minsmere (25 minutes)? In Southwold (20 minutes), there’s a different scene, including beach huts and a restored Victorian pier. A short stroll along the river Blyth gets you to a foot ferry that visits Walberswick across the water. In the village, pastimes include crabbing off the riverbanks and bridge or having a nice brew in one of the tea rooms. Covehithe Beach (20 minutes) is a rather peaceful sandy stretch for a quieter beach day. However, those of you who prefer more action may want to visit Great Yarmouth (45 minutes) instead. Museums, an aquarium and sailing yacht hire are part of the highlight reel in that seaside resort. An itinerary from this site shouldn’t forget Norwich (45 minutes) either, where there's a medieval cathedral, Norman castle and local museum… plenty of history to keep you going.
