  • Peaceful, well-kept park with six lakes, walking trails and wildlife
  • A 15-minute drive to Lincoln; half an hour to the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Café-bar, wifi, play area, takeaway food and fishing
Rural roams are firmly on the agenda at Hanworth Country Park, a serene site dotted with pretty paths and six lakes around 15 minutes’ drive from Lincoln. And angling’s on the cards too – four of the bodies of water here, stocked with mirror carp, common carp, chub, barbel, ide, perch, roach and tench, are open for fishing. There’s also a café-bar to order takeaway food and drink (with a handful of tables if you fancy eating in). Travelling with the tiddlers? Let them roam free in the play area. Animals are also often seen scampering around the park, especially around the lakes and woodland: think buzzards, red kites, woodpeckers and kestrels, as well as brown hares, squirrels, hedgehogs and deer. Attempt to catch a glimpse of these critters while roving along routes through the country park, either on foot or by bike; a favourite trails is the famed Lincolnshire Spires and Steeples path, which runs through the park and ends up at Lincoln Cathedral. Closer by is the village of Potterhanworth (10 minutes’ walk), a peaceful place with a handful of amenities including a large playing field with a play park, a skateboard park and tennis courts. A pub’s in the centre of the village – handy for evening drinks – and there’s a bus stop plying the Lincoln to Sleaford and Lincoln to Boston routes for explores via public transport. Surrounding villages such as Metheringham, Branston, Heighington and Washingborough are all within five miles and have conveniences like food shops, inn, takeaways, cafés, butchers and post offices.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked The quite site, even given the time of year. I think the site would have been quite regardless of season. There are several different options to stay on site, making it possible for all to enjoy the beautiful location. I'm not into fishing but did enjoy the walks around the several lakes. The Cafe/restaurant has 2 time frames breakfast and afternoon and offers takeaway. There is a bar that opens until 2100. (We didn't use the bar, but it looked well stocked). A short drive from Lincoln and well located to reach further around.
The ablutions were hot and sufficient for the site.

Disliked The cost of the WiFi.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked We really enjoyed our stay! The location is lovely, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. It’s about a 15-minute drive into Lincoln, which was very convenient. The on-site restaurant was great, they were knowledgeable and helpful when I asked about gluten-free options.
The pitch was a good size, level, and the staff made us feel very welcome. We’ll definitely be returning!

If you enjoy fishing, there are some great fishing lakes on-site, as well as plenty of nice walks around the area.

Disliked The touring pitches are quite close to the railway line, so the freight trains can be a bit noisy at times. Our mobile signal was also quite poor, so we signed up for the Wi-Fi, which was reasonably priced but did drop out quite often.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Nice level gravel pitches, we had a serviced pitch. Excellent water pressure and 16amp electric. Small well kept club house with bar and food. Individual shower/toilet rooms which were clean and warm ( end of October). Mainly peaceful with occasional trains passing which though you could hear them didn’t bother us or detract from the overall quietness that much. The stars at night were amazing due to the countryside location and darkness.

Disliked Nothing really disliked though a small shop with milk and other basics would be helpful. Also we had a day fishing and it would be a good addition to have a small tackle and bait shop. Having said all the above we really enjoyed our stay and would certainly stay there again.

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Lovely clean site. Been twice this year arriving late on both occasions which was no issue to them. We were given pitch number in advance and just drove straight in to our pitch. No dramas and silly rules. Felt very relaxed. Well done 👍

Disliked Nothing

FHU cement/asphalt and grass travel trailer campsite

Liked Very clean well presented modern pitch with water, electric hook up and grey waste drain.
Pitches are wide and flat.
Very welcoming staff and a good bar / cafe although opening hours are short, closed at 5pm.
Lovely walks around area with 2 villages within an easy stroll that have a public house and in Branson a small family run cafe.
Excellent fishing very relaxing location around lakes.
Very enjoyable stay.

Disliked Train noise, the main track is no more than 100yrds from any pitch, ear plugs for a good nights sleep recommended as they run all night
Bar hours would have been better maybe up to 8pm so that an evening meal could have been purchased but not a deal breaker.

Liked The fully serviced pitches and the restaurant and bar. Great walks locally and around the park. Only a ten minute drive to the centre of Lincoln.

Disliked The menu in the evening was the same as the lunch time a different selection would be great.

Pootling around on public transport? The nearest train station is in Metheringham (five minutes’ drive) for catching a ride to places including Peterborough, Sleaford and Doncaster. Lincoln (15 minutes) has a larger station with access to more destinations, but it’s worth lingering in this lovely city for a little while before fleeing further afield.
