  • Peaceful, well-kept park with six lakes, walking trails and wildlife
  • A 15-minute drive to Lincoln; half an hour to the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Café-bar, wifi, play area, takeaway food and fishing
Rural roams are firmly on the agenda at Hanworth Country Park, a serene site dotted with pretty paths and six lakes around 15 minutes’ drive from Lincoln. And angling’s on the cards too – four of the bodies of water here, stocked with mirror carp, common carp, chub, barbel, ide, perch, roach and tench, are open for fishing. There’s also a café-bar to order takeaway food and drink (with a handful of tables if you fancy eating in). Travelling with the tiddlers? Let them roam free in the play area. Animals are also often seen scampering around the park, especially around the lakes and woodland: think buzzards, red kites, woodpeckers and kestrels, as well as brown hares, squirrels, hedgehogs and deer. Attempt to catch a glimpse of these critters while roving along routes through the country park, either on foot or by bike; a favourite trails is the famed Lincolnshire Spires and Steeples path, which runs through the park and ends up at Lincoln Cathedral. Closer by is the village of Potterhanworth (10 minutes’ walk), a peaceful place with a handful of amenities including a large playing field with a play park, a skateboard park and tennis courts. A pub’s in the centre of the village – handy for evening drinks – and there’s a bus stop plying the Lincoln to Sleaford and Lincoln to Boston routes for explores via public transport. Surrounding villages such as Metheringham, Branston, Heighington and Washingborough are all within five miles and have conveniences like food shops, inn, takeaways, cafés, butchers and post offices.

Liked Size of pitch, cleanliness of shower/toilet block, cafe/bar on site, friendliness of staff, price!

Disliked Only 1 option for vegetarian gluten free requirement in the bar. Wifi not great (only 1 hour free unless you go to the bar). Not usually an issue but also 4G phone signal poor so needed Wifi to make a phone call.

Liked Big flat pitch, very clean amenities, lovely café and bar and only about 6 miles from Lincoln city center.

Disliked Trainline is a bit close and can be noisy. Apart from that it is perfect.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked The quite site, even given the time of year. I think the site would have been quite regardless of season. There are several different options to stay on site, making it possible for all to enjoy the beautiful location. I'm not into fishing but did enjoy the walks around the several lakes. The Cafe/restaurant has 2 time frames breakfast and afternoon and offers takeaway. There is a bar that opens until 2100. (We didn't use the bar, but it looked well stocked). A short drive from Lincoln and well located to reach further around.
The ablutions were hot and sufficient for the site.

Disliked The cost of the WiFi.

Fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site

Liked We really enjoyed our stay! The location is lovely, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. It’s about a 15-minute drive into Lincoln, which was very convenient. The on-site restaurant was great, they were knowledgeable and helpful when I asked about gluten-free options.
The pitch was a good size, level, and the staff made us feel very welcome. We’ll definitely be returning!

If you enjoy fishing, there are some great fishing lakes on-site, as well as plenty of nice walks around the area.

Disliked The touring pitches are quite close to the railway line, so the freight trains can be a bit noisy at times. Our mobile signal was also quite poor, so we signed up for the Wi-Fi, which was reasonably priced but did drop out quite often.

Pootling around on public transport? The nearest train station is in Metheringham (five minutes’ drive) for catching a ride to places including Peterborough, Sleaford and Doncaster. Lincoln (15 minutes) has a larger station with access to more destinations, but it’s worth lingering in this lovely city for a little while before fleeing further afield. Don’t miss the castle and cathedral or the shops and eateries in the cobblestoned Bailgate area. Keen to blend a few historically minded expeditions into your stay? Learn all about the Second World War at the International Bomber Command Centre (10 minutes), a memorial and interpretation complex dedicated to the RAF force that helped bring D-Day about.
