  • Quiet, rural adults-only site on the Leicestershire-Derbyshire border
  • Donington Park Circuit and East Midlands Aeropark five minutes’ drive
  • Countryside views; 10 minutes’ walk from the village pub
Do you like the sound of direct access to the National Forest, with its miles of scenic wooded tracks for walking and cycling? How about adding in views of Derbyshire’s centuries-old St Mary and St Hardulph Priory Church, atop Breedon Hill? If you answered ‘yes’ to both, then you should be heading for Barley Fields Holidays, on the Leicestershire–Derbyshire border. This peaceful adults-only site also has stunning views to the Peak District National Park to the north, and the Vale of Belvoir to the east. And just when you thought things couldn’t get any better, you’ll be pleased to learn that your dogs can join you, that the site has modern showers and loos, and that – although barbecues are allowed on site – you’re only 10 minutes’ stroll from a popular Breedon on the Hill pub that serves decent grub. On arrival, get set up and… just chill. Life will take care of itself. Sit back, relax, watch the horses in the neighbouring fields and see if you can spot/hear any of the following: cuckoos calling in late spring, swallows arriving on their early summer stop-overs and birds of prey circling overhead. And on clear evenings, you have a pretty decent chance of bagging yourself a truly spectacular sunset. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

What customers say

This adults-only site offers peaceful countryside stays with beautiful views and excellent local walks. Guests rave about the friendly, helpful hosts and spotless, modern facilities, including a dog shower. While occasional airport/track noise is noted, most find it unobtrusive. A village with pubs/shop is walkable. Minor pitch/shower issues were mentioned, but returns are common.

The Hobbit House microlodge

Liked So loved our quaint Hobbit hut. Lovely double bed, large table and seating. On a fabulous adults only sight. Lovely showers and washing facilities. Especially loved the doggy shower. It was lovely and peaceful with a beautiful view of the priory. In a great location for doggy walks and two public houses. Kerry, Trevor and codey made us feel really at home. Had a fab weekend. Thank you

Local attractions

Petrolheads make a beeline for Donington Park Circuit (five minutes’ drive), which has a lively calendar of motoring events, from the popular British Superbike Championship to a vintage motorsport festival. And on track days, you can also drive your own car (yes, your Fiat 500 also qualifies) on the circuit. On the north-western corner of East Midlands Airport, East Midlands Aeropark (five minutes) is an aviation museum with dozens of aircraft displayed on the lawn, including a Gloster Meteor fighter jet from World War II. Engines and other aircraft components fill a separate hangar. On the outskirts of Leicester, the National Space Centre (35 minutes) includes the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium (the largest in the UK) and the 42-metre tall Rocket Tower, which houses interactive exhibits on Earth and the universe, plus a gallery illustrating life as an astronaut in space.
