What customers say

Basic stopover, popular with bikers & gig-goers. Friendly vibe, live music. Pitches are level & good value. Staff & pub praised. Downsides: reported poor loos/showers & rats, busy on biker nights, can look rough.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Cheap and safe. Facilities are a bit basic but all there. It was quiet whilst I was there so not over crowded or music playing. Very friendly and accommodation hist John.

Disliked Urban and a bit tight on space

Recommend to friends Visit again

It's an excellent pub for bikers and rockers and music fans.

Power optional cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Basic but friendly. Poor toilet and shower facilities. It us important to keep food safe as the place has a rat infestation.

Disliked Rat infestation

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: its not an infestation, you seen a rat, rats are everywhere and as we are sittuated next to a copse and industrial estate you do get the odd rat and mouse sniffing around that live in there, we have special traps that catch these vermin and are ALWAYS containing poison, we use these as we dont want to harm cats, birds and the like,it states in the itinery that the outside toilet is nothing more than a portaloo converted to flush toilet and shower, not the ritz I know but most normal people are ok with it, you were offered the use of the pub showers and toilets anyway, do you think your getting a little old for camping, asking for a friend.......................

Didn't even try showers or toilets.

Primitive cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Nothing

Disliked Why this site is on pitchup I don't know, it's the worst site we have been on. The place to park was full of scrap caravans and rubbish. If it hadn't been so late we would have driven off. Avoid. Landlord will say get a life, I'm sure.

Primitive cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Nothing!

Disliked Everything! It’s like a scrapyard for caravans, campers and knackered boats! There is old junk and piles of scrap everywhere and it looks like some homeless people are occupying some of the decaying vans. Don’t even ask about the toilet facilities as I don’t want to put anyone off their tea. I wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: WHAT AN EXAGERATION !!!! you provide your own accomadation, was it that bad, we dont allow children on site, HOMELESS we have a few contractors staying here that work in the area but go home at weekends unless on overtime, customer service i stronghly disagree, have you got pictures to prove what your stating, I have a few small boats that are being restored ..NOT in the camping area, read the itinery of the site it states a portaloo with a shower and flush toilet, or use the pub facilities, its been quite acceptible by most people for a good while, read the reviews.... we say its a very basic site, ideal for just for a stopover, Cleanliness, nothing wrong with the camping area which is where you paid to stop over.. GET A LIFE

Primitive cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked The pub. My band was playing, so it was perfect that we could stay in the van overnight.

Disliked Luckily we weren't camping, but those that were had very little choice of where to pitch.
The site is safe and level, but is basically the pub overspill car park.
There were several caravans there that looked like people lived in them full time.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: thease are contractors caravans that go home at weekends, theres pleanty of pitches

Local attractions

Those feeling energetic can roar along the 30-mile circuit of the Brass Monkey Run around Charnwood Forest with hundreds of other bikers in early January to raise money for the Rainbow Children's Hospice – or complete it at any time of the year on their own (pick up a route map from staff and a celebratory pin badge after you finish). Bikes, cars and other wheely good transport options are the (Ford?) focus of several attractions in Leicestershire. Outside of Download, Donington Park lives as a race circuit that's home to the British Motorcycle Grand Prix and the Donington Grand Prix Exhibition, the biggest collection of Grand Prix vehicles in the world. Get more racing satisfaction at Mallory Park racing circuit at nearby Kirkby Mallory, or for an out-of-this-world trip, the acclaimed National Space Centre just outside Leicester city centre is the country’s biggest attraction devoted to space. More quietly, Nanpantan Reservoir is a good nearby spot for fishing, and fisheries are at Mallory Park and Charnwood Lake. Also worth a look is Charnwood Forest’s Bradgate Park; look out for the ancient rocks on the hilltop of Old John.
