Aylton Motorhome and Caravan Site: The pitches

General

  • Adults-only touring pitches on a relaxed working farm
  • A 15-minute drive to the Malvern Hills; 20 minutes to Hereford
  • Farm-produced perry, eggs, honey, bacon and sausages for sale on site

Find this fine site hidden away down a quiet country lane… Aylton Motorhome and Caravan Site is an adults-only touring site on a peaceful Herefordshire farm and it’s a very pretty part of the world here, 10 minutes’ drive from Ledbury. That’s true of the farm too, which has views out over May Hill, Much Marcle and the Malvern Hills…

There’s been a farm on this spot since the early 16th century, but the farmhouse that stands here now dates back to the Georgian period. It’s alongside an ancient orchard of pear trees that provide the raw materials for the perry cider that’s produced at the farm. Fancy a taste? There are bottles available to buy or sampling sessions by appointment.

It’s not all about the drinks here though – the farm is also home to pedigree Gloucester Old Spot pigs, Boer goats and Herdwick sheep as well as ducks, geese and chickens. Beehives have been set up, with honey from local producers available to buy for a particularly tasty breakfast treat; couple them with fresh eggs on site or bacon and sausages straight from the family butcher.

Please note that there are no toilets or showers on site and to preserve the surroundings for wildlife and farm animals alike, only green chemicals can be disposed of at the farm (these are available to buy on site).

As you may guess from the gorgeous surroundings, this is a fine place from which to set out for rural walks – follow routes in the Malvern Hills, the Wye Valley or the Forest of Dean.

Please note

Tents are not accepted at this park.

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

This site has no on-site toilet and shower facilities.

Only green chemicals can be used onsite.

Flat, well kept area for the caravans (although you will probably need some blocks for the feet as it slopes a little front-to-back), a simple site (which is what we were looking for). Pitches plenty wide enough for a caravan and awning (although we don't have one, the neighbouring pitch did) with some to spare. Basic waste disposal (Green credentials here!) but has everything needed for the job (a manhole cover drain and a tap).

Lovely views of the Pear Trees (we need to come back as the new stock matures), the sheep and goats grazing in the adjacent fields.

Charming and knowledgeable owner, gave us lots of good advice as we are new to caravanning).

Everything!! Location is just idyllic, pitches are spacious and grass mown nicely. Andrew is an excellent host, attentive to your needs and is on hand with any issues, but leaves you to it. Really quiet location, beautiful sunsets. On a small holding with a few animals but not noisy, I think we heard the cows in the adjacent field on one morning but wasn’t a problem at all - was just natural which is what you would expect. Sanitiser provided, water close to pitches, waste disposal further away. Really nice just having 5 pitches so you can have privacy but can chat to the others if you want to. Just really peaceful! Thank you Andrew!! The local produce was amazing too, you must try it: the bacon, sausages, eggs, Perry and honey - absolutely lush! Well worth a visit, would return definitely! Thank you!!

    Lovely quiet site.
Andrew the owner was there to see us when we arrived and gave us knowledge of the area, where to eat, places to visit. He also sells wonderful Perry. Along with eggs, sausage, bacon and honey.
The use of the green toilet chemical was a real eye opener and we have taken another bottle for use on our next site so much nicer to use than the blue chemical.
Nothing was too much trouble and he even gave use a lesson on reversing the caravan as we are new to caravanning
Lots of space between the 5 pitches and lovely to see the goats, sheep and the cows.
WiFi was great and if you want to watch any TV the reception here is great.
We will be coming back as it is ideal to visit Eastnor Castle and Ledbury is a lovely English Village.
Lovely walks from the site around the villages.
Thank you Andrew for a lovely break.

    Disliked:

There was nothing to dislike at this site.
The last half a mile is a little narrow but there is very little traffic and we did not meet any other cars or tractors thank goodness.

Liked everything. Fabulous quiet adult-only, dog-friendly, 5-pitch site, loved the peace and the field full of cows behind us :) EHU/water/waste, no loos/showers so just used our own. Easy to get to Hereford/Ledbury etc. Good free WiFi. Perry, sausages, bacon all available from the farm.
Owner very helpful and friendly, will definitely return.

    Disliked:

Not really a dislike but when sat nav takes you to a little triangle take the road with no houses on it, and the site is a couple of hundred yards up that road.

Local attractions

Tastebuds at the ready… with Weston's Cider Mill (10 minutes’ drive) and Three Choirs Vineyards (15 minutes) close by, you could take a tour of a working cider mill or try and tell apart the wine from one of England’s oldest vineyards. There’s a cider museum in Hereford (20 minutes) too, or the cathedral to look over the Mappa Mundi, a medieval map that’s been preserved from those times.

To take in some more sites of old, there are guided tours around Hellens (10 minutes), a Tudor house, or Hampton Court Castle (25 minutes) if you fancy muddling your way through a maze on the grounds of a 15th-century castle. Meanwhile, Eastnor Castle (15 minutes) has a deer park, arboretum and plenty of play areas for kids.

After some splendid vistas too? Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (15 minutes) and Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (15 minutes) have mastered this art. For a cathedral city instead, head to Gloucester (35 minutes) or Worcester (40 minutes). The latter is a rather nice option for walks, either along the riverside or the Elgar Route.

Must see

  • Eastnor Castle (4.9 miles)
  • Malvern Hills (9.0 miles)
  • Goodrich Castle (12.7 miles)
