  • Gloucestershire family campsite with Cotswold Hills views
  • A 15-minute drive to Cotswold Farm Park; 30 minutes to Blenheim Palace
  • Five minutes’ drive to Stow-on-the-Wold; bus service nearby
Along with a spacious grass camping ground (as one might expect of sporting pitches), Stow-on-the-Wold Rugby Club has some seriously eye-catching views of the Cotswold Hills. This site is in a fab location just outside the historic village of Stow-on-the Wold in Gloucestershire, making it a smashing spot for family rambles, touring and gallivanting all over the Cotswolds. From the hilltop pitches you can walk for miles on local footpaths without going near a road (thus making this a cracking base for cyclists too), and if you’re keen to get on the golf course, you can book a round at Naunton Downs Golf Club (10 minutes). Eager to do some city sightseeing but prefer to leave the vehicle behind? No worries, a local bus service leaving from the local village of Oddington (a short walk away) can whisk you off to theatreland in Stratford-upon-Avon (40 minutes) or the dreaming spires of Oxford (55 minutes). Back on site, simple facilities include showers, toilets and a wifi connection (around the clubhouse) so you can keep in touch with the folk back home. Stow (five minutes’ drive) has cafés, bars and a couple of small and handy stores for basics. For more amenities, the best stop is Moreton-in-Marsh (15 minutes) for markets, pubs, supermarkets and indie shops. It’s also got a mainline rail station with services to London.

From the manager: Hi, thanks for leaving a review & for staying with us. I'm sorry no one was there to meet you, we don't have full time staff as we are all volunteers, however the phone number of our site manager is on the greetings board, as was your pitch number which you found ok & in your booking conformation, so communication was available, we're please you didn't need it.

Thanks again for staying with us.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked The site has a number of electric hook ups, we opted for a hard standing one. Great views across the Cotswolds. Ideal base to explore and we would use again as a base to explore the area. Toilet and shower blocks were mobile units that were kept clean and the showers had nice steady hot water.

Liked Nice quiet site which was a great base for us to explore the Cotswolds, not far from Diddly Squat and The Farmers dog. Also only a short walk into Stow

Liked Views from the campsite were awesome

Disliked Shower were too hot ( not really a dislike )

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi again David, I'm a little concerned regarding the too hot showers, all the showers are adjustable from hot to cold, we'll check the showers to make sure they are working correctly.

Liked Nice view

Disliked Our name was not on the board, so we didn’t know where to park. All hard pitches had existing names beside them, some pitches had no motorhomes. We parked at an empty one. I called, the lady said the board hadn’t been updated.

The hard pitch appeared to be sand material, it had rained so the inside of our motor home was like a beach.

Toilets & showers not the cleanest & hot water in sink quite hot & splashed everywhere.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Sinead, we're sorry you didn't appear to have enjoyed your stay with us, the reason your name wasn't on the board was that you arrived just ahead of the earliest arrival time of mid-day & the board hadn't been updated, which was explained to you by Maria when she met you. A simple phone call to the number on the board would have helped you. as it was, we had to change other bookings to accommodate you when you parked on someone else's pitch. Thankfully the other motorhomes staying with us had gone out for the day, probably why the pitches were vacant, so we were able to accommodate.

Unfortunate, yes the weather was wet when you stayed with us, & as the previously very dry weather had resulted in some dust around the countryside location, it was somewhat inevitable that it would be transported by foot traffic, I imagine an option would have been to remove footwear of lay a mat...

The showers & toilet blocks are cleaned twice daily at least & more during busy times, as per the records on the block wall, & we're sorry if hot water splashed, this is usually manged by mixing the cold water to an acceptable temperature & turning down the taps pressure.

Thanks for staying with us & for your review.

Liked Stunning views from the site

Disliked Was difficult to walk to the nearest village

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi David, thanks for staying with us & for your review.

I'm not sure which village you are referring to as the nearest village of Oddington is a 7 minute walk across one field, there are two nice pubs there. If you refer to the local tow of Stow, I hope you didn't walk along the main road which is extremely busy, there is a nice walking route into Stow, via another small village which is on quiet village roads, there is a map of the route in the clubhouse info centre, & also detailed on the info sheet also in the clubhouse lobby.

Thanks for staying with us, we're glad you enjoyed your stay.

Liked Hook up pitch was good, toilet and shower facilities good and lots of field space for our dog to run around

Disliked Stayed overnight on a Monday and the rugby clubhouse bar was closed despite there being lots of campers on the site - missed income opportunity !! Never saw any staff on arrival or throughout our stay (not that we needed to see anyone) .

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi, thanks for staying with us & for your review. Our bar is usually open Tuesdays, Thursday, Friday & over the weekend, unfortunately its not cost effective to open every day & even if we are busy its no guarantee that anyone wants a drink!! experience tells us that the costs of the electric & any paid staff we have to use needs a good few people to use the bar before its viable.

Our site isn't fully staffed at all times for similar reasons above, we are an amateur club which needs to manage our costs very carefully as we don't get any revenue other than what we can raise ourselves & the majority of the staff & people who run the club are volunteers, the contact for our manager is on the board on the entrance to the camp site & also in the lobby of the clubhouse along with the local information & maps, & is also on the booking conformation, in the event you would have needed help it was available.

Thanks for staying with us, glad you enjoyed your stay & hope to see you again.

Powered cement/asphalt travel trailer campsite

Liked Beautiful views. Lots of space . Very peaceful. Name on board with pitch number. Easy access off main road. Hot showers not on a stop start button hurray!

Disliked Too far to walk in to Stow on Wold for us. Basic facilities. Club not open. Nowhere for food close by for oldies to walk too. Further from town than I realised

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: HI Angela, thanks for staying with us & for leaving a review. we're sorry you felt you were a bit far from local amenities, the nearest village of Oddington is a 7 minute walk through the next field where there are 2 really good pubs, the town of Stow is about 40 minutes steady walk from the site.
The club opening hours are shown in the club info area in the lobby of the clubhouse, we open usually Tues, Thurs, Fridays & Saturdays, it's just not viable for us to open every day as the costs out way the revenue taken & we would lose money which, as an amateur charity based club we can't afford to do.

There is a local bus service tatt runs into town often on demand as detailed in the club info & also some local taxis also listed.

Thanks for staying with us, we're glad you enjoyed the open spaces!
