  • Dog-friendly site with gorgeous walks from the door
  • A 15-minute drive from Bakewell; 20 minutes from Chatsworth House
  • Dog-friendly pub in the village of Foolow, 10 minutes’ walk away
Cows and sheep for neighbours, gorgeous walks from the door and a short drive from the likes of Bakewell (home of Bakewell tarts) and Chatsworth House… who could turn down a Peak District getaway at Brosterfield Farm Caravan Park? The site was originally run back in the 70s, as an addition to the then working Brosterfield Farm, before it ceased trading in 2003. The owners bought the farm in 2009 and slowly renovated it into their family home and the existing site – the surrounding acres are owned by themselves and farmed by the local farmer. What a stunning place it is, too: the field is quiet and surrounded by farmland. The main thing is that it’s small and low-key, as the owners want the experience to feel as natural as possible. There are modern showers and toilets. Dogs (up to two per pitch) are also welcome. There are some gorgeous walks from the door – and if you’re keen to dabble in other activities, mountain biking, cycling, shopping, taking photos or simply finding a spot to read a book or sip a drink will be very easy. The local pub is handily dog-friendly (inside and out). It’s only 10 minutes’ walk away in the village of Foolow, a pretty and traditional place with lots of walking trails, a duck pond and the aforementioned country pub with an excellent restaurant, open fires and good ales. Another pub is half an hour’s walk away from the site, and has views over the village.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: A beautiful quiet setting. Unspoilt by too much signage. The loos and showers are all new. Don't need to change a thing. Only add more loos/showers as your camping numbers dictate.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Lovely quiet campsite. Heated toilet/shower block. Spacious showers to wash and get changed in. Clean and well looked after. Close to all the places I love to visit when I’m up that way.

Disliked: Nothing. Really enjoyed my stay.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your kind review, we have worked really hard over the last year to build this new facilities block and it has been warmly received. I personally hate the cold to get showered in so it is important to have somewhere warm to get changed and showered. We have invested heavily in going green too and have installed solar panels too to help the cause :)

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Brand New pitch

Disliked: Unfortunately we booked which was confirmed but then on arrival we had a phone message saying that motor homes can’t stay due to condition of grass. Which was very true! So we asked for our money as they confirmed our stay by three emails from you. Anyways she said she would refund £25.50 Needless to say we had a wasted journey and ended up out of pocket! Plus the grass was way too long and ground very soggy, they did offer us a top spot but to be honest despite the new amenities at the top of the field there is nothing there. Just needs gravel and cut out pitches not finished I’m afraid and quite pricey ! I think they should have charged less as it needs more TLC. Owners very pleasant. 👍🏿

From the manager: thank you for your review. We don't at the moment take motorhomes. This is reflected in my advert! However, you decided to still book your motorhome on to our site. When you place a booking via Pitchup, you agree under Pitchup terms to pay Pitchup THEIR COMMISSION which is NON REFUNDABLE, This is the £4.50. I do not receive this. nor do I keep this commission. I am afraid that the I have to work with how Pitchup have their booking system and if you decide to still book, the system will send out confirmation e-mails. I don't unfortunately see the nature of your booking in that I dont get to see if you are a camper van, motorhome, caravan or tent. This again is down to how Pitchup work but as mentioned my advert does reflect we don't take motorhomes at the moment due to the unusual wet weather which is reflective in many campsites. I wrote to you immediately, confirming again we don't take motorhomes, but you still turned up. We offered a dry area for you to park, which was acceptable. We have had the wettest year for 150years but despite this we have suitably accommodated many tents, cars and camper vans. You booked knowing we were a grass pitch site. We offer a pitchless site as this allows the flexibility and freedom for people and we are lovely laid back site which has been warmly received.

Excellent, smart and clean, lovely level ground. Fantastic pub nearby.

Primitive grass tent, campervan or trailer tent campsite

Liked: Large, mainly flat, open field. Five minutes walk to great village pub. New, clean facilities (showers, loos, wash-up)

Disliked: Clearly a newly opened site, with teething problems over the one night of our stay. Electric went off in shower block, so no shower or hand drier. No loo roll in one of the two loos, and on the morning we left no hot water, as in no water at all from the hot taps. Once in the field there are no surfaced tracks, which while allowing pitching almost anywhere, is a bit confusing, and not easy in wet conditions. The temporary roping-off of some areas was impossible to see at night, as there is no lighting on site.
