If you had to pick a Peak District place, you'd be displaying tiptop taste if you went for Ashbourne. For there are many whys: it’s at the southern tip of the Peak District and a gateway to the same; it leads straight on to the Tissington Trail, and it’s sevenish miles from the heady heights of Alton Towers. More? It's also been the site of a raucous game of football every Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday since medieval times; and (possibly related), one in every four of its buildings is or has been an inn or brewery. It's not a bit surprising that illustrious visitors in its past have included Bonnie Prince Charlie and Charles I, although they probably didn’t have time to stop off for a game of footie… Add to your list Ashbourne Heights (formerly known as Highfields Park), three miles from town, well placed to reach a range of market towns like Bakewell and Buxton, and with a good range of facilities and services to fire the family up. From the site you can reach the main sights, activities, landscapes and history of the Peak District: too many to go into here, but do bring your camera. Ashbourne Heights has a heated indoor pool, and generously-sized pitches with room for awnings, gazebos and a car parked alongside. Liked: Lovely site, we did stay on a quiet week. Park for the kids was excellent. The toilet and shower block were lovely, clean and warm. Site appears well maintained.

Liked: The Pod was very good aesthetically & realistic. Good view of the nature. Friendly staff and ready to support anytime. Easy access to cycling trail. My family enjoy and looking forward to come back. BBQ are allowed which i am a lover for BBQ

Disliked: Could suggest to provide a table outside the pod to use for cooking.

Could have a free wifi for campers.

Liked: Children’s play area was huge and family pitches were close by. We also enjoyed the Easter egg hunt and the swimming pool. The location was also perfect for getting onto local walking trails.

Disliked: The toilet & shower blocks. On arrival they seemed fine but over the course of the weekend it didn’t seem they were cleaned often enough. Then to make matters worse the toilets were blocked and overflowed. The showers were flooding out to the bathroom.

Liked: We had an enjoyable time. The pod was clean and warm at night, the showers were hot. They were able to place our pod close to our friends. The pool was easy to book and not overcrowded. We were able to access lovely walks in the area. The site was not noisy, and had several families staying there when we visited. Would come again.

Disliked: The the toilets was poor and not frequently cleaned! Both the mens and women's toilets was often overflowing onto the floor over the course of our 3 night stay and dirty toilet paper on the floor.

The amount of antics available at Alton Towers near Ashbourne Heights might turn grownups grey among the thrill rides, river rapids and other heady highlights of the country’s biggest theme park. You’ll ensure Very Good Behaviour Indeed if you take the family on to Gulliver’s Kingdom at Matlock Bath, designed to keep all ages busy/tired out for later (beware the nerf guns). Other energetic Peak District pastimes include watersports, laser tag, climbing, caving and zipwiring; find out where’s what at Ashbourne’s tourist information centre, which is practised in all things Peak. More peacefully, the Peak District has a high amount of culture and heritage to explore: National Trust houses and estates, the old spa towns of Matlock and Buxton, museums of all sorts, prehistoric cave paintings, three vintage railways and aeons more. Lead mining was a main industry here from Roman times until recently and info on the industry can be mined at the Peak District Mining Museum at Matlock. All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Dogs must be kept on leashes and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
