If you had to pick a Peak District place, you'd be displaying tiptop taste if you went for Ashbourne. For there are many whys: it’s at the southern tip of the Peak District and a gateway to the same; it leads straight on to the Tissington Trail, and it’s sevenish miles from the heady heights of Alton Towers. More? It's also been the site of a raucous game of football every Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday since medieval times; and (possibly related), one in every four of its buildings is or has been an inn or brewery. It's not a bit surprising that illustrious visitors in its past have included Bonnie Prince Charlie and Charles I, although they probably didn’t have time to stop off for a game of footie… Add to your list Ashbourne Heights (formerly known as Highfields Park), three miles from town, well placed to reach a range of market towns like Bakewell and Buxton, and with a good range of facilities and services to fire the family up. From the site you can reach the main sights, activities, landscapes and history of the Peak District: too many to go into here, but do bring your camera. Ashbourne Heights has a heated indoor pool, and generously-sized pitches with room for awnings, gazebos and a car parked alongside. Liked: Lovely site, we did stay on a quiet week. Park for the kids was excellent. The toilet and shower block were lovely, clean and warm. Site appears well maintained.

Disliked: Mattress was a little hard and uncomfortable but we used single bed covers to put on top

Liked: The Pod was very good aesthetically & realistic. Good view of the nature. Friendly staff and ready to support anytime. Easy access to cycling trail. My family enjoy and looking forward to come back. BBQ are allowed which i am a lover for BBQ

Disliked: Could suggest to provide a table outside the pod to use for cooking.

Could have a free wifi for campers.

Liked: Children’s play area was huge and family pitches were close by. We also enjoyed the Easter egg hunt and the swimming pool. The location was also perfect for getting onto local walking trails.

Disliked: The toilet & shower blocks. On arrival they seemed fine but over the course of the weekend it didn’t seem they were cleaned often enough. Then to make matters worse the toilets were blocked and overflowed. The showers were flooding out to the bathroom.

Liked: We had an enjoyable time. The pod was clean and warm at night, the showers were hot. They were able to place our pod close to our friends. The pool was easy to book and not overcrowded. We were able to access lovely walks in the area. The site was not noisy, and had several families staying there when we visited. Would come again.

Liked: The park for the kids was great

Disliked: The the toilets was poor and not frequently cleaned! Both the mens and women's toilets was often overflowing onto the floor over the course of our 3 night stay and dirty toilet paper on the floor.

You’ll ensure Very Good Behaviour Indeed if you take the family on to Gulliver’s Kingdom at Matlock Bath, designed to keep all ages busy/tired out for later (beware the nerf guns).
