Charlie Bassetts: great campsite, pub with live music, walks nearby

Jan 2026

Liked We had a brilliant stay at Charlie Bassetts Camp & Pub. The campsite is well laid out, tidy and relaxed, making it a great base whether you’re stopping over or staying a few nights. The pub is a real highlight — welcoming atmosphere, great food, and loads of character. Being able to park up and walk straight over for a drink or a meal is a huge bonus. The staff were friendly and made us feel genuinely welcome, and the live music and acts at the pub add a great buzz without spoiling the relaxed feel. There are also lovely local walks straight from the site, perfect for stretching your legs, walking the dog or exploring the surrounding countryside before heading back for a drink. Facilities on the campsite were clean and well maintained, and everything matched the booking description. It’s a great mix of comfortable camping, countryside walks and a classic pub with live entertainment. We’d happily return and would highly recommend Charlie Bassetts Camp & Pub.

Disliked Nothing really. The church bells on Sunday start at 9 and go on and on but that’s not the camps fault.

Sunny Side Touring Park

A decent weekend but we won’t go ‘deluxe’ again.

Aug 2025

Liked Location, staff, walks and general amenities. This is our third stay and we do like this campsite. The Sunnyside part is excellent.

Disliked We paid £50 a night for what was advertised as a Deluxe adults-only pitch. Instead, we were placed on an unused lodge pitch beside the fishing lake at the adjoining Coole Acres Fishery. Unfortunately, it wasn’t set up for motorhomes or caravans – there was no proper water connection or grey waste drain. I had to unhook everything and go off in search of a tap just to refill. The pitch also wasn’t managed, which meant children were constantly wandering through our area to fish. Some left their gear, beer cans, and rubbish behind for days. We usually tether our dogs on the grass in front of our pitch, but this wasn’t possible with people sitting there, and at one point I even had words with a grandfather who admitted they hadn’t paid to fish. Part of the reason for our trip was to view the Coole Acres lodges with a retirement purchase in mind. Sadly, when we went across to look at the supposedly idyllic setting, we were really put off – the lakeside was littered with rubbish, and half a dozen teenagers and men were hanging around shirtless, drinking beer. That’s not at all what we had in mind for our retirement. On top of all that, the pitch was also a fair walk from the toilets and elsan point. Overall, the whole stay fell far short of “deluxe” and was very disappointing, especially given the premium price.

From the manager: Thank you for your review Mike I'm a little confused as the adult only lake view pitches are advertised as adult only lake view NOT DELUXE! And it does say that there is only water and electric IT IS NOT ADVERTISED AS A FULLY SERVICED PITCH The price is with fishing included in my opinion and lots who have stayed there the pitches are clean with great views over the lake with water fountains its very tranquil. It was our annual charity dog show the weekend you stayed so it was really busy. I do remember you as i seen you filling up from the tap near the office Sorry if that coursed to much disturbance for you. Other customers there filled there barrels from the tap on the pitch. We was under the impression you already bought a holiday home else were. From what i checked on the lake there was an older gentleman with a mobility scooter that also had a pitch who was fishing And the fact that he left rubbish is unacceptable but they must of picked it up because when Phil our grounds man went round litter picking there was no rubbish WE KEEP BOTH SUNNYSIDE AND COOLE ACRES FISHERY MAINTAINED TO A VERY HIGH STANDERED WE WORK DAILY ON INPROVING AND INVESTING TO KEEP THAT HIGH STANDERD Hope you visit us again as we value all our customers

Lovely site but not truly dog-friendly, which was disappointing.

Jul 2025

Liked The site is clean, spacious, and well-run, with friendly staff and great facilities. The outdoor pool, shop, and evening entertainment were ideal for families, and there’s plenty for kids to enjoy. Pitches are generous and well-spaced, and it’s perfectly located for exploring Shrewsbury and the countryside.

Disliked The only real downside for us — and it was quite a significant one — was the lack of dog access to both on-site bars. While we understand some restrictions, it became more of an issue when we found we couldn’t even order food at Jakks Barn to eat outside, reportedly due to takeaway items going missing. This left us with no choice but to take food back to the van. It was disappointing, especially as our dogs are very well-behaved, and in the 49 sites we've stayed at previously, dogs have always been welcomed indoors. The site is advertised as dog-friendly, but in reality, it didn’t feel that way. We couldn’t enjoy the entertainment on Saturday night unless we left the dogs behind — which isn't something we’re comfortable doing. We travel most weekends and had hoped this would become a regular stop for us, but unfortunately, we’ll likely look elsewhere in future — there are plenty of great sites that are genuinely dog-friendly.

The Cob House Countryside Park

A great site if you want to get away from it all.

Apr 2025

Liked We recently stayed at Cob House Country Park in our motorhome and had a fantastic experience. If you’re looking for a peaceful countryside retreat with character and charm, this is a gem worth discovering. Location & Access: Set in the beautiful Worcestershire countryside, Cob House is easy to reach, even with a larger motorhome. The approach is straightforward with clear signage and good access. Once on-site, there’s ample space to park and manoeuvre comfortably. It feels wonderfully rural but is only a short drive to Worcester and nearby villages for essentials. Motorhome Facilities: The hardstanding pitches are level, well-spaced, and maintained to a good standard. There’s room for an awning, and water and electric hook-ups are available. Facilities are simple but functional. It’s not a full-service touring site, but it offers everything you need in a clean, relaxed setting. On-site Attractions: Cob House has a unique charm thanks to its open-access animal enclosures and peaceful grounds. We loved visiting the alpacas, reindeer, goats, chickens, and ducks. It’s ideal for families, but equally enjoyable for adults who just appreciate nature and tranquility. The walking trails and fishing lakes add to the relaxing countryside vibe. The Mayfly Café, open every day, is a real highlight. The food is excellent – all homemade and generously portioned – and the coffee is top quality. Whether you’re after a hearty breakfast, lunch, or a slice of cake and a cuppa, the café is well worth a visit (or several). Having it right on-site is a real bonus. Local Pub: If you fancy a change of scene in the evening, the Mason Arms is a superb country pub just a 15-minute walk from the site. It’s cosy and welcoming with great food, friendly staff, and a solid selection of local beers and ciders. A lovely spot to unwind after a day exploring. Atmosphere & Setting: The site has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and the rural setting is genuinely calming. It’s spacious, with plenty of room to enjoy a peaceful stay without feeling crowded. Dog owners will appreciate the open spaces and walking areas – it’s a very pet-friendly place. Staff & Hospitality: Everyone we met was warm, helpful, and clearly passionate about the park. Staff are on hand if you need anything and happy to give advice or local recommendations. It has that personal, welcoming feel you don’t always find at larger sites. Overall: Cob House Country Park is a refreshing alternative to traditional campsites. It offers a mix of nature, comfort, and charm in a setting that’s both peaceful and engaging. The on-site animals, café, fishing lakes, and nearby pub make it a great base for a short break or a longer stay. We left feeling recharged and already talking about when we’ll return. Highly recommended for motorhome travellers looking for something a little different, in the best possible way.

Disliked Not a complaint – just a couple of suggestions: Having Wi-Fi available throughout the camp (happy to pay a fee for access) would be really useful. Given the location and the challenge of getting a reliable TV signal, it would definitely help. It would also be great if the café could stay open beyond 4pm to serve drinks, etc. A large TV showing music or sports would make it an even more inviting spot to relax in the evenings.

A beautifully kept campsite with top-notch facilities.

Apr 2025

Liked Blakemere Campsite absolutely exceeded our expectations! From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by how well-kept and welcoming the site is. Set in the heart of the Cheshire countryside, it offers a peaceful retreat while still having everything you need right on your doorstep. The pitches were spacious, level, and immaculately clean – with plenty of room for our camper and awning. The facilities were top-notch: modern showers, spotless toilets, and thoughtful touches like heated floors and family-friendly amenities. Everything was well-maintained and clearly cared for. What really sets Blakemere apart is the on-site village – shops, eateries, and activities galore. We spent a fantastic afternoon exploring the boutiques, and the kids were thrilled with the play area and the on-site activities. It’s rare to find a site that balances tranquility with so much to do – and still maintains a laid-back, community feel. The staff were friendly, helpful, and genuinely passionate about making guests feel at home. It’s clear they take pride in the site, and it shows in every detail. We can’t wait to come back – Blakemere Campsite is now one of our absolute favourites. Whether you’re a seasoned camper or a family on a weekend break, this place is a gem.

Surrounded by the serene beauty of the French countryside, this campsite is a haven for campers looking to enjoy both the tranquility of nature and easy access to some of Normandy's most iconic attractions. In summary, Camping Municipal des Bords de l'Aure offers the perfect combination of location, comfort, and hospitality. It’s a fantastic choice for anyone looking to explore Normandy’s rich history while enjoying the peacefulness of nature. Highly recommended for both short stays and longer holidays.

Disliked A small note: the electric hook-up is limited to 6AMPs, so plan accordingly.

Excellent site, very friendly, very clean, pub, fishing and walks.

Aug 2024

Liked A great site. Very friendly, helpful and clean. Lots of amenities - burger van, bar/restaurant, fishing, lovely walks. The village of Audlem is 1.8 mikes away and it’s a nice walk along the canal to reach it. TBD bar on the adjoining site is equally friendly and operates bingo, karaoke and live acts as well as food. Disliked The access to the toilet block from our pitch was over grass and it became muddy to the point I fell heavily. The bathroom only has the one shower and we couldn’t get a TV signal (in the Valley). We also have 8.5m motorhome and the camp is tight (but workable)

Dec 2022

Liked Everything really. Huge pitches, good Wi-Fi, great, clean and warm toilets. Fantastic on site restaurant/pub with dog friendly pods available. Beautiful views and lovely walks. The staff from the owner to the waitresses are superb. Truly a great site.

Disliked Not really the site but we were slightly disappointed with the New Years Eve party. We like many of the campers were placed in the marquee, which was cold and damp and we couldn’t really enjoy the great band from in there. To add insult to injury, when our food arrived it was stone cold (everyone in the marquee has the same experience) We eventually made it inside and enjoyed the night overall but a good night could have been a great one. Also there was no food available on New Years Day (no takeaways were being delivered in the area either) Finally not a dislike but suggestion. Perhaps an additional bar/lean to could be added for more space and for the inclusion of dogs (so many were on site this week)
