Station Farm: Welcome to Station Farm

General

  • Secluded site on a small, welcoming Somerset working farm
  • In the Avalon Marshes nature reserves, five miles from Glastonbury
  • Riverside wildlife haven with firepit for each pitch

What a spot for wildlife lovers… Station Farm is a small family-run Somerset farm on the edge of Shapwick Heath Nature Reserve and situated between the Ham Wall and Westhay Moor Reserves (3,700 acres of reclaimed wetland collectively known as the Avalon Marshes).

Bring your binoculars along for a stay here – you’re likely to spot all sorts of bird life (including cranes, egrets and a white-tailed eagle) around here, and there are several hides within a short walk for those who’d like to settle in for some serious spotting. If birdwatching’s not your thing, look out instead for otters or head out straight from the farm onto footpaths and bike routes across the reserves (including the Bittern Trail, which goes all the way to Glastonbury, five miles away).

Just next to the farm is a river that’s fab for kayaking, paddleboarding, wild swims and fishing (permit required). Sticking to dry land, there’s plenty of space for kids to run about and greet the farm animals (ponies, sheep, pigs and free-range poultry). Each pitch is provided with a barbecue/firepit (with logs and kindling available to buy) so you’ll also have space to keep warm once evening falls.

This is an off-grid site so it’s a good idea to bring a torch along; toilets, showers, drinking water and a covered washing-up area are a short walk from each pitch. For safety, there’s no parking on pitches but wheelbarrows are provided to help haul kit. (Parents, do be aware that there’s easy access to lakes, ditches and the river so you’ll still need to keep an eye on the kids.)

Please note

At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Minimum spacing of 5 metres between pitches.

Units longer than 4 metres are not allowed.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

There are no garbage cans onsite: all garbage will need to be taken home with you.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Units heavier than 3000 kilograms are not allowed.

Group bookings of 5 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Bookings must not be for more than 14 consecutive nights.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground/park are unlit.

It was best camp holiday! Really friendly and helpful owners. We loved the warm genuine welcome from the whole family. We had a tour of the site and everything was amazing, lots of animals such as pigs, chicken, duck and horses. On the site we found big pink old bus and long time exploring everything inside.
Kids feed animals it was so exciting for them, huge thank you for this experience!
We bought mix eggs for breakfast they were delicious! The facilities were are wonderfully presented and sparkling clean. It was great to have a fridge and freezer to use as not all sites have this facility, it is so useful. We cooked pizza and crapes it was lovely experience for all of us.
The location is amazing, we visited Cheddar Gorge, Glastonbury and Bridgewater.
Nearby in the kiosk we bought fresh milk.
Thank you so much to the whole family for all of your help and advice of where to go and what to do. We will be back again.

This campsite is excellent. There is so much space with just a few tents in a huge field surrounded by wild flowers. The owners are so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. The showers, toilets and wasing up area are clean. There's a very handy fridge freezer and plug sockets to charge phones etc., even fresh herbs to pick to add to your dinner! There are lots of animals around and there are walks straight from the farm gate.

Wonderful site surrounded by beautiful countryside and walks from the farm gate. Lovely helpful hosts, great facilities and everything is well maintained and clean. Loved the big open space, surrounded by wildflowers, farm animals and the sound of so many wild birds, we even grew to love the "booming" Bitterns.

What a fantastic experience. The hosts were genuinely welcoming and friendly throughout, very helpful and included us when interacting with the animals. There is loads to see around the campsite and loads of animals to keep the kids entertained. The facilities are the best we have had the pleasure of using, the toilet and shower rooms were immaculate with loads of hot water. The washing up facilities are at a similar standard with soap, sponges, washing up bowls and drying cloths provided. There is also a communal fridge/freezer for use and a covered seating area that is very handy for somewhere to chill whilst there is a bit of rain. The surrounding areas are full of things to do from nature reserves to the sights and experience of Glastonbury town. What sets this site apart is the friendliness of the hosts, we have already booked for the summer hols.

Local attractions

If you need to get your bearings, a good place to start is at the Avalon Marshes Visitor Centre (five minutes’ walk) – there’s a café here too, so you can plan your walks over a cup of coffee.

Beyond your immediate surroundings, there’s plenty more to see – perhaps beginning with an outing to Glastonbury (10 minutes’ drive/half an hour’s cycle) to stroll through the town and visit the abbey and the tor. Wells (20 minutes’ drive) is another urban centre that’s worth a wander, particularly if you stop in at Europe’s first Gothic-style cathedral.

For outdoor days, go for a hike around Cheddar Gorge (20 minutes) or hit the beach in Burnham-on-Sea (20 minutes). The West Somerset Railway (45 minutes) is a good option if you fancy seeing some of the scenery at a leisurely pace.

Other ways to fill your days? Well, maybe delving into the caves at Wookey Hole (20 minutes), visiting Europe’s largest naval aviation collection at Fleet Air Arm Museum (half an hour) or checking out the stately home and safari park at Longleat (50 minutes)…
