Liked A pleasant, well maintained site, with a nice woodland walk.

Disliked Slightly disappointed the kids weren’t allowed to go to the loo by themselves.

From the manager: Thank you John. We are glad that you had some likes but sorry there was a dislike.

This is the reason why we recommend that the children do not go to the toilets on their own. Last bank holiday, we had a group of children who totally trashed the toilets, unravelled all the loo rolls and put them on the floor, and blocked the sinks up. We have had instances of children trying to set fire to the toilet rolls in the holders, and we have had groups of children blocking the sinks and flooding the floors.

We do not for one minute think that your children would do anything like this but it has happened. This is only a recommendation and not a hard and fast rule. We also live in a dangerous world and we want all our children to be safe. I see that your children are not really little, and so I'm sure that they would have been fine. If our customers have concerns with issues like this, please come and talk to us.

We hope that this does not put you off from returning again.

From the manager: Thank you for your review Craig. We are glad you found everything clean, that has been a challenge this weekend so it's nice when our customers mention that.

We are however a bit disappointed that you have marked us down on something that isn't really in our control. Every time a customer does this, our review score goes down and it takes an awful lot of 10/10 reviews to get it back up again. We can't control the weather, aeroplanes flying over or grumpy people. Having said that, if our customers are experiencing abuse from other customers, please come and find one of us straight away. We don't like that.

We do understand that you are angry and agree some customers should go to an adults only site. I do myself spend hours going through every booking trying to put our customers on the correct pitch for their needs and separating the children from the adults is one of the first things I take into consideration. Obviously children are not going to stay on their pitch and unfortunately, there are always going to be grumpy people in this world, especially when the weather is this hot.

We hope that this doesn't put you off from coming back, we would love to see you again. The Oak View Team 😊

Liked Had a really lovely stay at this site, big shout out to Ruth who was so welcoming and accommodating. Really nice facilities, wet room style showers, hot water for washing up, all really well designed. Site got very full due to bank holiday so ensured we showered early or late. Loads of mature trees scattered around site and a forest walks straight from site. Some noise from main road but soon got used to it.

Disliked Having to leave

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review with photos Jo. Im interested to see the evening one in the dark as I don't get to see the park at night as I've gone home.

It was lovely to meet you both, and thank you for the shout out, I appreciate that a lot. 😊

We really do hope to see you again some day and wish you Happy Travels. The Oak View Team

From the manager: Thank you very much for a lovely review, Hazel.

Your comments are very kind but we see that you marked us down on our location and facilities and activities which is a shame. May we say to all our customers again, please do your research as to where we are and what we have onsite before you book.

Happy travels Hazel.

Liked Pitches were well looked after. Our pitch was a good size for our largish tent and car. The site was on the whole quiet though its proximity to the M20 and A249 could sometimes be intrusive. For us the availability of good walking routes on the campsite’s doorstep was a bonus.

The village of Detling is close by and can be reached by a pleasant 15/20 minute walk. The Cock Horse pub is agreeable and the local community store is well-provisioned.

The campsite staff were very welcoming and helpful. The shower block was well kept. When we stayed the site was fairly quiet so toilet/shower access was never an issue. I guess it might be if the site were very busy. But then which site isn’t challenged when busy?

Overall we had a lovely stay at the campsite; and shall certainly stay again.

The site is just off the A249, within 2 miles of the M20 (Junction 7) and 5 miles off the M2 (Junction 5). The best postcode to follow using a satnav is ME14 3HB as using the postcode takes you on a longer route. Heading from the M20 Junction 7, drive along the A249 to the top of Detling Hill. As you approach the top you will pass a layby and a sign for Bredhurst. Turn left along the road to Bredhurst; this is Scragged Oak Road. The park is 500 yards along the road on the left marked with a large green sign. Please do not turn up Pilgrims Way.

Local attractions

Oak View Holiday Park is in prime position to traverse the best of Kent's countryside, coast, castles and well-known gardens – with Essex and its coast easily accessible too just to the north. Plenty of pedalling and perambulating opportunities are around the North Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, such as the 153-mile route of the North Downs National Trail through from Farnham to Canterbury, passing the White Cliffs of Dover. This takes in the 119-mile Pilgrims' Way, the supposed route of Thomas Becket from Winchester to Canterbury Cathedral. Elsewhere in Kent, loads is on all year round in the 500 acres of parkland and formal gardens at lovely Leeds Castle (10 minutes’ drive), like free falconry displays, play areas, special events and making one's way intrepidly out of the castle maze. Also see Rochester Castle (20 minutes) on the east bank of the Medway for its 12th-century keep and stacks of historical info: the castle was sacked during the Peasants' Revolt, held for Henry III against the barons, and besieged (also because of barons) by bad King John. And of course, just next door is the Kent Showground, which hosts all sorts of events throughout the year (the most famed being the Kent County Show, which usually runs for three days in July).
