  • Family-friendly woodland park overlooking Dunwich Beach in Suffolk
  • RSPB Minsmere 10 minutes’ drive and Southwold 20 minutes
  • Terrace restaurant and bar; playground and private steps to the beach
Set on a spacious and leafy 30-acre site edging the sea just outside Dunwich, Cliff House Holiday Park puts its guests in pole position for days of adventure exploring Suffolk, its villages and coastline. Book your stay for winter and get cosy around your campfire, in spring to see the daffodils or summer to enjoy days on Dunwich Beach, just a few minutes’ walk away. Wherever time of year you’re there, keep your eyes peeled when you’re wandering about the tree-shaded park and you may spot red deer, rare birds and badgers; rabbits, squirrels and muntjacs are a common sight too. The property is surrounded by untamed heath and woodland, and National Trust walking routes are available directly from the pitches. Your four-legged chums are given a warm welcome here too – there are always treats on hand and the beach is handily dog-friendly all year round. Facilities include a communal barbecue and the 12 Lost Churches bar and restaurant serving food and drinks from local suppliers; there’s a playground within sight of the bar terrace so parents can keep watch over their offspring as they play. You also have access to a shop, well-maintained shower blocks, washing-up sinks and a launderette.

Unpowered grass tent site

Liked One of the best campsites we have visited.
Shop on site, restaurant and bar with children's play park. So we could have a drink while the kids enjoyed playing without them going out of sight. Wi-fi available at the bar/restaurant.
Right next to the beach and loved listening to the waves at night. So peaceful.
Well run, maintained and friendly staff.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

And so close to the prettiest beach .And everyone who works there is so helpful to the lovely chap who shows you around on his golf buggy to the restaurant staff. It was our 2nd time and we will be back.

Liked Clean, with great facilities in a fantastic location

Disliked Tent pitch was a little uneven. Cut down hedges near the path are a trip risk which I cut my toe on.

Liked Location, great beach and fabulous heathland. A walker/runner paradise.

Disliked Proximity of our pitch to the bar and playground (20ft away). Showers out of order for the duration and no hot water for washing up.
Being so close to the toilets, endless people taking a shortcut through our pitch.

Powered grass and gravel site

Liked Great location by the sea. Solid electricity never cut out. It had a working EV charger. Toilet blocks were always really clean. Good BBQ area with raised areas for portable BBQs.

Disliked We booked an electric pitch for our tent which stated grass and gravel. However it was more like wood chipping and soil- no grass to be seen. Some wood chipping was more like sharp branches and i did my best to clear those bits when pitching the tent to avoid puncturing the groundsheet. Pitching under the tall trees meant thick roots so the pegs were impossible to get into the ground and also a lot of bird mess on the tent- we felt we couldn't leave anything outside as it would have got covered in poo. The main toilet blocks hot water kept failing. The signs said to use the other block, which were actually much nicer- but noticed that there were some lovely grass pitches near this shower block which were mainly taken up by motorhomes. Wouldn't it be better to put the motor homes on the dusty/wood chipping pitches and the tents on the grass? Was pretty pricey for our stay during half term- the price was inflated (I understand that it would be more), but to then be charged extra per child during the half term, which i noticed they don't during non half term, which just feels a bit off.

Local attractions

Cute-as-a-picture seaside towns include Southwold (20 minutes’ drive), where you can tour Adnams Brewery and the lighthouse, browse smart shops and eat fish and chips on the pier; Aldeburgh (25 minutes) is well-known for tours of the arts and crafts Red House, former home of composer Benjamin Britten, and Suffolk-born Maggi Hambling’s vast ‘Scallop’ sculpture on the beach. Still on the coast, Thorpeness (25 minutes) is set around the Meare boating lake; it is also gateway to the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape, criss-crossed with wildlife walks and cycle rides. If you’d rather not stray so far from base camp, RSPB Minsmere (10 minutes) is another great day out for wildlife lovers, with family-friendly opportunities to take part in pond dipping and den building. There are also family-centric activities like felting and archaeology talks at Dunwich Museum (five minutes), where you can learn about the ‘Lost City’ – Dunwich was once a thriving medieval port that slowly slipped into the sea due to erosion and storm surges.
