  • Bar, adventure playground, dog-walking area and bicycle hire
Have you ever been to the Norfolk coast? Come and stay at Pine Cones Caravan and Camping, a mile from Sandringham Estate and a 10-minute drive from the beaches in Heacham and Hunstanton. At this well-maintained site, the staff aim to go out of their way to make sure that everyone's comfortable. There's something for everyone; kids tend to love the open space – teams can often be seen laughing over a game of football or other games – and spending hours on the play equipment. Meanwhile, all ages can unwind at the all-weather bar and terrace at Bens Bar, which is open at peak times for snacks, draught beer and other delicious drinks; live sports are also shown here. Dogs (up to two per booking) are very welcome and even get access to their own dedicated off-lead walking area and warm dog wash. Other on-site facilities include luxury individual bathrooms (each with a toilet, sink and shower), electric vehicle charging points and gas bottle sales. Takeaway food is served on site during peak times. At other times, simply stroll along to the two dog-friendly village pubs within walking distance. There are plenty of excellent walks and cycling paths from the site, with the Sandringham Visitor Centre only 20 minutes' walk away; hire a bicycle on site to get around quicker. Bus stops are nearby in Dersingham.

What customers say

A top-notch camping spot with super clean, modern facilities (private loos with music!). Staff are a treat, pitches are roomy, and it’s handy for walks and Sandringham. Good grub and drinks on site. A bit of road noise, but mostly no worries. Folks love it and want to come back.

Liked Lovely to have a sheltered picnic table but then... see below.
small fenced dog area, good for our small dogs.
Nice Large pitches.
Cheerful helpful staff.
Take away delivery (off site chip shop) roast chicken yummy, salad plentiful red cabbage tasted old, chicken burger didnt seem like chicken at all.
Didnt try cafe or its take away due to limited menu (maybe could do different food to the take away delivery ) and not open when we wanted to not cook on our first night after long drive.
Showers lovely push button nice decor kind of homely feel.
Excellent wifi.

Disliked Food onsite only half of the week, reception sold a few essentials but no real shop.
Gravel everywhere not disabled friendly, very difficult and painful to use any wheeled aid . Got stuck and had to be rescued twice which gave us a giggle .
Shelter above picnic table leaked badly so table and bench soaked even after some sun didnt dry out
Such a lovely idea but needs maintenance.
Showers push button go cold each time before warming up brrr.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. We’re really pleased to hear that you enjoyed the large pitches, our helpful team, the showers, Wi-Fi and the sheltered picnic area, and that your little dogs made good use of the fenced dog area. We’re also glad to hear that you enjoyed the roast chicken!

We’re sorry that some aspects of your stay weren’t quite what you had hoped for, particularly around the food options and accessibility.

Just to clarify, we don’t offer food onsite every night. Our onsite food service is available from Wednesday through to Saturday. On the other days, we recommend Manor Road Fish Bar in the village, who offer a takeaway delivery service to the site. The use of this service is entirely down to the customer’s choice, and unfortunately we have no control over the quality of the food supplied by an independent business. There are also two village pubs nearby which offer our guests a 10% discount on food. We do apologise that our onsite food wasn’t available as frequently as you would have liked.

With regard to the onsite shop, we deliberately keep this to essential items as the large village Co-op is approximately a 10-minute walk or a 3-minute drive away, so we’re fortunate to have a well-stocked shop very close by.

We’re sorry to hear that you had such a difficult time with the gravel roadways. We appreciate that these can be particularly challenging for guests using wheelchairs or other wheeled aids, especially where the wheelchair has smaller, thinner tyres designed primarily for tarmac or pathways. We’re glad you were able to see the funny side of being rescued twice.

We’re also sorry about the leak in the picnic hut. Please do let us know about issues like this during your stay, as we have a maintenance team onsite who can investigate and rectify problems. Had we known, we would have been very happy to get this looked at for you.

Thank you again for your feedback. It’s genuinely helpful to us, and we’re pleased that despite the issues you encountered, you still found our staff cheerful and helpful and enjoyed many of the facilities.

Disliked When busy maby not enough toilets

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your lovely 9/10 review. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed the site and, most importantly, that you would come back and stay with us again.

Thank you also for your comment regarding the toilets. During particularly busy periods there can occasionally be a short wait for our private bathroom facilities. We do, however, have a second toilet and shower block just a short walk away, which is often considerably quieter, and we have signage around the site directing guests to it.

We really appreciate your feedback and look forward to welcoming you back to Pinecones again soon

Liked It's my favourite site as go a few times a year. It is family owned and all the staff are friendly and helpful. Bens bar is great for a few drinks as busy most evening with families and dog walkers. They do food some evenings which is good. The toilet/showers are lovely as they are separate units and very clean. They maintain the site to a high standard and impose strict quiet hours which is lovely. All in all to me the best site. The Wifi is amazing and good signal also.

From the manager: Thank you so much for such a wonderful 10/10 review. Hearing that Pinecones is your favourite site and that you choose to visit us several times each year really does mean a great deal to our whole team.

As a family-run campsite, we're particularly pleased that you always find our staff friendly and helpful. It's also lovely to hear how much you enjoy Ben's Bar, the food evenings, our private shower and toilet facilities, and the Wi-Fi.

We're especially pleased you appreciate our quiet hours. We know how important a peaceful evening is when you're camping, which is why we work hard to ensure the rules are respected for everyone's enjoyment.

To describe Pinecones as "the best site" is a fantastic compliment. Thank you for your continued support and loyalty, and we look forward to welcoming you back many more times

Pine Views fully-serviced concrete and grass caravan site (small)

Liked The site was close to Hunstanton. The bar was nice and the pitch we were allocated was close to and had a good view of the play area for our grandson. Staff were friendly and nice.

Disliked The site was untidy in areas especially driving to pitch just through the park barrier. Pitch needs re stoning as most of the hardcore had gone and we were pitched up on dry red mud. Not nice after it rained. We were fully serviced but the tap badly leaked so had to turn it off and fill water butt when low. Also road noise from A149 was quite significant and constant as the site is directly off it. This is the main road into Hunstanton. The bathrooms behind the bar were a better choice as the other bathrooms were dirty quite quickly as nearer the tenting area so used more often.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your 7/10 review. We're pleased you enjoyed our location, Ben's Bar and the view of the play area from your pitch, and that you found our team friendly and welcoming.

We would like to clarify a couple of the points raised. All of our hardstanding pitches were topped up with new stone where required at the beginning of the season. Following the exceptionally hot and dry summer, however, the underlying ground has become extremely dry and dusty, which can naturally affect the appearance of the pitches and surrounding areas.

We believe the untidy area you mention near the barrier may relate to the blue barriers that were temporarily in place. These were simply protecting a delivery that had just arrived on site and were necessary for health and safety reasons while it was awaiting movement to its final location.

Thank you for letting us know about the leaking tap. We will ensure this is checked and repaired, as it certainly shouldn't be leaking.

Regarding the bathrooms, we have two facilities blocks and, as you found, the block behind Ben's Bar can often be quieter. During particularly busy periods the other block naturally experiences much heavier use due to its location, although our team regularly checks and cleans both facilities throughout the day.

Finally, our address is on the A149 Bypass, Dersingham, so our proximity to the main road is made clear when booking. We appreciate that individual sensitivity to road noise varies considerably.

Thank you again for your constructive feedback. We're pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay and hope to have the opportunity to welcome you and your family back to Pinecones.

Liked Lots of space, great layout, safe site, clean private toilet/shower rooms (with radio piped in), friendly staff, great walks, bar, food hatch, shop and a warm welcome!

Disliked Maybe a pedestrian crossing needs to be installed just off site to help crossing the very busy road into Dersingham.

Liked Showers nice, could do with a mop rather than a squeegee.Staff very friendly and helpful

Disliked Road noise, dangerous road to cross with bikes.pitches need new surface added.collapsing deck area being dismantled and noisy digger.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We're pleased you found our private shower facilities nice and our team friendly and helpful. We are, however, disappointed with the 4/10 score and would like to clarify several of the points raised.

Our pitches were fully re-turfed last winter, and the hardstandings were refreshed with new stone where required. Unfortunately, following five heatwaves and an exceptionally dry summer, the grass is now understandably very brown and the ground extremely dry. This is not an indication that the pitches have not been maintained.

Regarding road noise, our address is A149 Bypass, Dersingham, we feel our location close to the A149 is made clear before booking. We would always recommend appropriate care when crossing any main road, particularly with bicycles.

We would also like to correct the assumption that there was a "collapsing deck area". The decking had not collapsed. It was actually being moved and fitted to a recently sited static caravan which has been sold and is awaiting its new owner next week.

Pinecones is a 12-month site, which is also clearly advertised. We undertake the vast majority of our development and major maintenance work during the winter, but occasionally minor works are unavoidable during the summer. The digger mentioned was used for very short periods to move the decking and was switched off for the vast majority of the time.

We appreciate the suggestion regarding a mop. However, we provide squeegees in the bathrooms as they allow guests to remove residual shower water without introducing cleaning chemicals or shared mop water into individual facilities.

Our team and tradespeople work extremely hard to make Pinecones an enjoyable place to stay, and a 4/10 review can be very demoralising, particularly where some of the criticism is based on assumptions about what was taking place.

It's a shame these concerns weren't mentioned to us during your stay, as we would have been very happy to explain or address them at the time. As the review was also left anonymously, we're unable to contact you directly to discuss your concerns.

We always welcome constructive feedback and will continue working hard to provide the high standards our guests expect.

Local attractions

Beaches, historic houses, museums and festivals, tiny villages, market towns and fab family days out are all easily accessible from Pine Cones Caravan and Camping. Within a couple of miles, the deer safaris, farming activities and walking trails of Snettisham Deer Park and the sights and smells of Norfolk Lavender are both good options for a day out; Snettisham has an RSPB reserve too for those itching to twitch. But as you're probably in west/north Norfolk for the beaches, head to Heacham, Holkham and Hunstanton first, the closest sands to Pine Cones, and then take a trip to Brancaster, 11 miles away; the family-friendly and very scenic sands of Sheringham, Cromer and Mundsley are a little further along the coast. (Also, the final scenes of Shakespeare in Love were filmed at Holkham, and all the beaches in these parts are fairly filmworthy, so bring your camera.) Other excellent options for days out include village hopping and shopping among the scenic sights of Dersingham, Holt, Fakenham, Aylsham and Burnham Market to pick up some local produce, or going along to one of Norfolk's festivals or events: there's usually something going on throughout the year. Pine Cones is also on the edge of the Norfolk Coast National Landscape – bring walking boots, crabbing nets and plenty of room for picnics.
