  • Cosy family-run and dog-friendly site in the Cotswolds
  • A 15-minute drive from Blenheim Palace; 25 minutes to Stow-on-the-Wold
  • Barbecues and firepits allowed; access to footpaths and bridleways
After a cosy spot somewhere in the Cotswolds? Historic houses, museums and market towns are out in full force around the cosy Cotswolds Camping in its Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty six miles from Chipping Norton… to be exact, this family-run site is 15 minutes' drive away from Blenheim Palace and within striking distance of many characteristic Cotswolds trails. At the same time, Oxfordshire is the other way and Oxford itself is just 15 minutes’ train journey away from Charlbury Station (five minutes’ drive). As for those of you with a soft spot for a hardcore shopping trip, you won’t be left in the lurch here, as Bicester Village has a shopping outlet 35 minutes’ drive away and Stratford-upon-Avon is 45 minutes’ drive away for handsome riverside scenes and independent shops. Now, how about those hiking shoes? Well, the site has access to fancy footpaths, bridleways and woodland walks, so you’ll be able to get right to the rambling. You might want to stop by the local village, Charlbury, on your way around the local area, as there are food shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants here, all within walking distance of the site. And don’t worry, you’ll be able to carry the good time onto the site, as barbecues and firepits are both permitted – the same for dogs. As for the facilities you’ll have on hand, these include a play area, shower, toilets and a dishwashing area to help you deal with any dirty pots and pans.

What customers say

Lovely, tidy spot with roomy sites and a chill vibe. Folks loved the staff, great loos and showers, and the cafe's live music. Handy for exploring, with walks to pubs and villages. A few said facilities could be better, and there was some noise.

Unpowered grass caravan site

Liked The pitch was a decent size for my small camper. Toilets were spotless Really quiet area Wood for sale was a good price A nice quiet well maintained site With no road noise and dark skies

Disliked Some pitches were really close together so when it was busy some groups looked a bit restricted with size

Camping pod (two person)

Liked Very spacious, clean, good toilet and shower block. Staff very polite. Easy to find.

Disliked The cafe on site is VERY over priced for what u get! £12 for a small jacket potato with beans and cheese and in take away box is ridiculous. Would pay prices for that in a nice pub/ restaurant, but not there.

From the manager: thankyou for your review , we will pass over this information to the the café owner, it is a separate business from the campsite but we always welcome all forms of reviews so we can seek to better our service and overall customer experience

Liked Pitches were really spacious and marked out for tent and car. Good access to toilet, water and electric facilities. The staff were on hand to help at any point and would be with you in a couple of minutes.

Disliked The numbers to identify the pitches were really small, very minimal! And there was no hot water in the shower blocks, unsure if this was all showers as only used the ones near reception - certainly woke me up in the morning.

Liked Great pitch (42)

Absolutely loved the kids play area - our children made loads of new friends and the campsite felt safe enough for us to let them roam. Play area was in amongst trees so even when it was raining it was still pretty dry for them.

Dog friendly, even down to having somewhere to tie pups up outside the loo when needed.

Handy wee shop on site, not sure the opening hours.

Electricity easy to hook up to and reliable
Shower block was clean and hot water was great
Toilets near by, in several places
Well placed water pipes
Plot was a decent size

Daniel was really helpful when we arrived and sorted us out with a fire pit even though it was past 7pm. The site is really well maintained - clean and tidy. Was pleasantly surprised given how busy it seemed that the loos and showers were always clean.

Loved that there was a bar and live music!
Really family friendly and relaxed site.

Disliked Nothing that was the fault of the campsite!
Shame about the behaviour of some inconsiderate people at the campsite but it did not detract from a lovely weekend.

Local attractions

Trail time? You might want to begin with the Roman Fosse Way, passing by the towns of Stow-on-the-Wold (25 minutes' drive) and Moreton-in-Marsh (25 minutes). Or from Lechlade-on-Thames (half an hour), perhaps you'll roll right on to the Thames Path, if you’re not drawn into the water with watersports such as canoeing. Characterful towns and villages are a Cotswolds staple and it shows… Burford (15 minutes) is boxed full of unusual shops, pubs and tea rooms, while in Witney (20 minutes), you’ve got classic entertainment courtesy of a multi-screen cinema, shops and leisure centre mixed in with markets and the historic Cogges Manor Farm. In Woodstock (15 minutes) there’s more history inside The Oxfordshire Museum. Like Chipping Norton (10 minutes), the place has a swimming pool, shops, pubs and tea rooms galore, to add to Chipping Norton’s theatre and cinema. Historic are many of the houses around here, and that includes the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Blenheim Palace (15 minutes), the Jacobean Chastleton House (20 minutes) and or the 18th-century Buscot Park (35 minutes). For more activities in the throw of it all, there’s Cotswold Wildlife Park & Gardens (25 minutes) and Bourton-on-the-Water’s equestrian centre, brewery and motoring museum (half an hour).
