When only the spectacular and challenging trails of the Peak District National Park can satisfy your hiking ambitions, Church Lane Farm Touring, in rural Derbyshire, makes for a pretty convenient base. This well-maintained caravan park on the outskirts of the village of Great Longstone is remarkably peaceful – not least because it’s an adults-only site (and also because you can count the number of pitches on the fingers of one hand). Although children are not allowed, dogs are welcome, and they will probably be wagging their tails at the mere suggestion of walks among the heather on the Longstone Moor (five minutes’ drive), or at Curbar Edge (10 minutes) or around the woodland of National Trust Padley Gorge (15 minutes). Pitches have water, electric and drainage hook-ups, and there are picnic tables on site. And another excellent thing about Church Lane Farm Touring? The fact that it’s within walking distance (literally five minutes) from a couple of traditional village pubs serving real ales and home-cooked meals. Great Longstone also has a village shop, while the local farm has installed a vending machine that dispenses fresh pasteurised milk, eggs and a small selection of meats (bacon, sausages and burgers); for anything else, Bakewell is a 10-minute drive away.

A peaceful, adult-only escape with great views & spacious pitches (some with EHU/water). Short walk to village pubs, shops & Monsal Trail. Tranquil, convenient for Bakewell. Lacks loos/showers, but perfect for self-sufficient quiet breaks. A gem!

Liked Views, the large hardstanding pitches, the fully serviced pitches (although I couldn't get grey water to drain as the drain was higher than the pitch, so resorted to Wastemaster).

Disliked The route through Great Longstone can be a bit challenging with cars frequently parked both sides of the road, making the tight right turn into Church Lane a very careful manouvre. It felt a bit odd not meeting the owners, but we were fine.

Be aware that the 3 local pubs are only open / serve food on certain days, so you may have to travel further afield for a meal.

Liked The pitch was well spaced out and in a quiet location in a lovely village. It’s a small site with electrics and water readily available, but as clearly stated no other facilities which suited us fine.

The walking from here was superb. Chatsworth House and Bakewell so close.

Disliked A bit pricey for a site that had no washing facilities, but the location and quality of the pitch means we’ll be back.

Liked A well presented small 5 pitch location. Great views. Has Grey Waste, Freshwater and electric hook up. ideally situated for the pub as well as the Monsal Trail. Shrubs have been planted so as they mature the site will give some privacy.

Disliked Grey waste point and freshwater too far from the pitch. Also a gate would have been nice to give a sense of security.

Liked Adult only, only 5 pitches , very very tranquil. beautiful views , we love the friendly cows. The village is like a fairy tale . So far is one of the best we ever been!

Liked Very lovely spot . Nice and open with plenty of space . The owners are very nice . The village has milkshake machine with milk from the owners farm. (Very nice) you have a little village shop and 2 nice pubs .

Parking is easy and a peaceful place .
Only 5 or 6 spaces so no over crowding nice big pitches.

Toilet waste point water and electric hook up if want it .

Think we paid £35 for the night with hookup. It might be on the hi side but the village is lovely and the site is peaceful. Sometimes you pay more for the location and we was happy to do so on this lovely site .
No WiFi and signal for phones or TV not the best . Was ok for us as we have extra things to cover us for this issue .

We would definitely stay again if we need somewhere in the area again.

Local attractions

The River Wye winds its way around the market town of Bakewell (10 minutes’ drive), birthplace of the famed tart (a delicious pastry with jam and frangipane), which you should be able to find in every bakery and coffee shop here. The Old House Museum explores the history of the inhabitants of this stone building from the Tudor era. Chatsworth House (10 minutes) is a grand mansion that has been in the same family for 17 generations. The grand Painted Hall – with its elegant staircase and gilded balustrades – is particularly fabulous, while the Oak Room is filled with spiralling wooden columns and decorative carvings. Outside, deer inhabit the Capability Brown-landscaped grounds. Views from Bamford Edge (25 minutes) take in the Ladybower Reservoir, on the banks of which is a business that rents out fishing boats and float tubes. The slopes to the east of the lake are dotted with unusual rock formations and stone circles, such as the Bamford Moor Stone Circle.
