  • Friendly and relaxed riverside campsite
  • On the banks of the River Tryweryn in Snowdonia National Park
  • A short drive to Bala Lake
Right by a river in Snowdonia National Park… that sounds just pretty perfect. Gwynedd's Tyn Cornel Camping is on the banks of the River Tryweryn, right next to the National White Water Centre for those whose Welsh holiday requirements include whitewater rafting, and four miles from more watery antics at Bala Lake. Mountain biking, climbing and hiking are easy to access from here too – and as you might expect in this part of the world, this woodland-bordered site is set in spectacularly scenic surrounds… If you're not feeling overly active, have a hol here to be within reach of the attractions of the national park and into the whole of north Wales: the area is packed with castles, museums, historic houses, steam railways, handsome old villages and – most important – Michelin-starred eating out for foodies. Tyn Cornel has modern and well-kept facilities, including free hot showers, a laundry and a covered washing-up area. Dogs are welcome and there's an exercise area where they can let off steam. Barbecues are encouraged across the whole site: just use them on the blocks provided to raise them off the ground.

Seaside location, lovely, clean facilities, and gas-friendly staff. Close to Bala Lake and White Water Rafting. Some road noise, but peaceful. We'll be back.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked We’ve been absolutely blessed with the weather during our stay! The campsite itself is spot on - brilliantly clean and tidy, with the grass freshly cut and everything working exactly as it should. The staff are lovely and helpful, and honestly, the milkshakes are so tasty!

There’s a handy little shop on-site for those bits and bobs you inevitably forget to pack, and you can rent fire pits (just a refundable deposit) and buy wood right here. It’s also an excellent location, just a short 10-minute drive from Bala Lake. Best of all, there was heaps of space for the kids to run around, play ball, and ride their bikes. Highly recommend!

Disliked While the sound of the nearby stream is lovely and soothing, you do get the odd car passing by on the road close to the site, which takes away from that total "middle of nowhere" wild feeling at times.

Also, definitely make sure you pack the insect repellent - the mosquitos were absolutely ruthless during our stay!

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Location, friendly wardens, free Internet, plenty of hot water, clean facilities and well labelled recycling bins.
Lovely gesture on father's day of a free milk shake to all dad's, grandads, step dad's and godfather.
0 4 mile walk to whitewater rafting centre.
Fire pits allowed and a small shop with a good array of products
A nice gesture in the ladies emergency supply of ladies products.

Disliked Nothing to do with the site but got bit by midges.

From the manager: Hi Issie
Thank you for your constructive feedback. We pride ourselves on the cleanliness of our facilities and our customer service.
I can see you we're happy with the site overall and you were displeased with the midges.

Sadly, these are beyond our control due to climate and the weather conditions.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Clean and pleasant site. Friendly staff. Excellent facilities.

From the manager: Good Morning Rik,
We are thankful for the lovely review and we completely understand you had issues with the midges, sadly it is the weather and climate that brings them out and not the surrounding vegetation. As a deterrent we sell citronella candles, incense sticks, bug spray and fire pits, but unfortunately for some, it's not enough of a deterrent.

We are thankful you have focused on the positives around the site that we can manage, unfortunately, midges are an ongoing issue that we have no control over.

Thank you again

Local attractions

Tyn Cornel Camping is in prime position for exploring Snowdonia National Park, whether you're after an active holiday in north Wales or want to chill in spectacular surroundings with occasional trips out to local attractions. For active types, the National White Water Centre is metres away; the river rapids run past the site and a river access ramp is on site. If you've never tried whitewater rafting before this is the place to do it, as well as to tackle kayaking or canoeing year-round. For more action, Zip World and Bounce Below are all a short trip away. Walks? Pick from an easy riverside walk straight from the site, the craggy local peak of Arenig Fawr, or ascents like Snowdon or Cadair Idris within easy driving distance. For biking, some of the UK's best-rated mountain biking trails including Coed y Brenin and Penmachno are within a 30-minute drive, while for road cycling the area is filled with quiet, winding country roads, some stiff climbs and consistently fab views. Family cycling trips can be had at the Mawddach Trail, Llandegla or Llyn Brenig. The Tyn Cornel team also highly recommends castles including Harlech Castle and Criccieth Castle on the coast; the local narrow-gauge railways with spectacular views including the famed Snowdon Mountain Railway and the local Bala Lake Railway; the Italianate setting and buildings of Portmeirion village; the local ales, pub food, takeaways or fine restaurant meals in Bala; Michelin-starred fine dining at Tyddyn Llan or Llandrillo…
