  • Friendly and relaxed riverside campsite
  • On the banks of the River Tryweryn in Snowdonia National Park
  • A short drive to Bala Lake
Right by a river in Snowdonia National Park… that sounds just pretty perfect. Gwynedd's Tyn Cornel Camping is on the banks of the River Tryweryn, right next to the National White Water Centre for those whose Welsh holiday requirements include whitewater rafting, and four miles from more watery antics at Bala Lake. Mountain biking, climbing and hiking are easy to access from here too – and as you might expect in this part of the world, this woodland-bordered site is set in spectacularly scenic surrounds… If you're not feeling overly active, have a hol here to be within reach of the attractions of the national park and into the whole of north Wales: the area is packed with castles, museums, historic houses, steam railways, handsome old villages and – most important – Michelin-starred eating out for foodies. Tyn Cornel has modern and well-kept facilities, including free hot showers, a laundry and a covered washing-up area. Dogs are welcome and there's an exercise area where they can let off steam. Barbecues are encouraged across the whole site: just use them on the blocks provided to raise them off the ground.

What customers say

A cracking, tidy, chill riverside spot. Loved the clean loos, top staff & prime spot near Bala for adventure. Spacious sites, free WiFi & even vending machines. Midges in the heat, some older bits & a bit of road noise were the only downsides. Bosses listen to ya!

Powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Hot showers. Clean toilets and water all within easy reach. Shop and vending machines available and the hire of a fire pit to keep the gnats away - there were many but not much the campsite can do about that.

Disliked No bilingual signage and information as would be expected in a North Walian campsite.

From the manager: Hi Eleri
We apologise regarding the signage, the team are now rectifying this. We thank you for your positive feedback regarding the site and appreciate your understanding regarding the midges.

Powered grass campervan, tent or trailer tent site

Liked Gorgeous river on the site that you can paddle in. Free WiFi that reaches your pitch. Showers, toilets, dish washing facilities pristine. Clean fridge and freezer provided which was unexpected but fantastic for the hot weather. Very understanding when my 16yr old woke them up at 2.30am! Fire pit free if you leave a deposit. Really really good and a great location. Beautiful site aswel

Disliked Midgies everywhere on an evening, swarms if them but not the sites fault at all just comes with the nice weather, river, tress ect. BUT if you put the fire pit on they do stay away which we found out on the second night. If you bring small children you do need to be very quiet after 10pm but this is expected anyway just don't bring the kids of they're loud. Again not really a bad point

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Joseph,
We are very aware of the midges, sadly, they are out of our control but we do sell an array of repellents and cures.

Thank you for your positive overall scores, they are very much appreciated.

Local attractions

Tyn Cornel Camping is in prime position for exploring Snowdonia National Park, whether you're after an active holiday in north Wales or want to chill in spectacular surroundings with occasional trips out to local attractions. For active types, the National White Water Centre is metres away; the river rapids run past the site and a river access ramp is on site. If you've never tried whitewater rafting before this is the place to do it, as well as to tackle kayaking or canoeing year-round. For more action, Zip World and Bounce Below are all a short trip away. Walks? Pick from an easy riverside walk straight from the site, the craggy local peak of Arenig Fawr, or ascents like Snowdon or Cadair Idris within easy driving distance. For biking, some of the UK's best-rated mountain biking trails including Coed y Brenin and Penmachno are within a 30-minute drive, while for road cycling the area is filled with quiet, winding country roads, some stiff climbs and consistently fab views. Family cycling trips can be had at the Mawddach Trail, Llandegla or Llyn Brenig. The Tyn Cornel team also highly recommends castles including Harlech Castle and Criccieth Castle on the coast; the local narrow-gauge railways with spectacular views including the famed Snowdon Mountain Railway and the local Bala Lake Railway; the Italianate setting and buildings of Portmeirion village; the local ales, pub food, takeaways or fine restaurant meals in Bala; Michelin-starred fine dining at Tyddyn Llan or Llandrillo…
