  • Friendly and relaxed riverside campsite
  • On the banks of the River Tryweryn in Snowdonia National Park
  • A short drive to Bala Lake
Right by a river in Snowdonia National Park… that sounds just pretty perfect. Gwynedd's Tyn Cornel Camping is on the banks of the River Tryweryn, right next to the National White Water Centre for those whose Welsh holiday requirements include whitewater rafting, and four miles from more watery antics at Bala Lake. Mountain biking, climbing and hiking are easy to access from here too – and as you might expect in this part of the world, this woodland-bordered site is set in spectacularly scenic surrounds… If you're not feeling overly active, have a hol here to be within reach of the attractions of the national park and into the whole of north Wales: the area is packed with castles, museums, historic houses, steam railways, handsome old villages and – most important – Michelin-starred eating out for foodies. Tyn Cornel has modern and well-kept facilities, including free hot showers, a laundry and a covered washing-up area. Dogs are welcome and there's an exercise area where they can let off steam. Barbecues are encouraged across the whole site: just use them on the blocks provided to raise them off the ground.

What customers say

Lovely riverside site, great staff, and brilliant facilities. Generous pitches and local sights are a bonus. Watch out for midges and Wi-Fi issues, plus loos can be stretched in busy times. Some felt toilet blocks could be cleaner.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked This site is set in a beautiful riverside location. Our pitch was spacious and right next to the river. There was a huge field for my grandchildren to play on and some lovely walks nearby. The hosts were friendly, helpful and professional and made us feel at home l.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Spacious hard standing pitch, cleanliness , all the facilities you need, close to great outdoor activities

Disliked Near busy main road, showers only warm but acceptable

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Steward,
Thank you for your feedback, its much welcomed and we will monitor the shower temperature, sadly the noise from the road is out of our control.
May I suggest, if you book with us again, the fully serviced top field is a little quieter and off the roadside.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The female attendant was extremely friendly and helpful.

Disliked The noise from the road. It was a few hundred meters away but when motorbikes race past at early hours in the morning they are extremely loud.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Martin,
Thank you for your feedback, sadly, the noise from the road is difficult to manage this time of year with the bikers. We hope you enjoyed your riverside pitch though for your evening away.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The hard standing pitch was very small. Very quiet site with sounds of the river and road

Disliked Pitch size and camp site a little dated

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Anonymous,
We value feedback from guests on our beautiful campsite and are happy that people return to us year after year which reflects in previous reviews.

Our website shows lots of activities to do in the area and the Warden Managers could have pointed you in the right direction, should you have asked them.

We pride ourselves on keeping the campsite in tip top condition, and we feel a 5 rating doesn't reflect that they were always warm, clean and well stocked with products.

We would recommend that you might research a campsite before booking next time so you know what to expect in relation to the surrounding area.

Local attractions

Tyn Cornel Camping is in prime position for exploring Snowdonia National Park, whether you're after an active holiday in north Wales or want to chill in spectacular surroundings with occasional trips out to local attractions. For active types, the National White Water Centre is metres away; the river rapids run past the site and a river access ramp is on site. If you've never tried whitewater rafting before this is the place to do it, as well as to tackle kayaking or canoeing year-round. For more action, Zip World and Bounce Below are all a short trip away. Walks? Pick from an easy riverside walk straight from the site, the craggy local peak of Arenig Fawr, or ascents like Snowdon or Cadair Idris within easy driving distance. For biking, some of the UK's best-rated mountain biking trails including Coed y Brenin and Penmachno are within a 30-minute drive, while for road cycling the area is filled with quiet, winding country roads, some stiff climbs and consistently fab views. Family cycling trips can be had at the Mawddach Trail, Llandegla or Llyn Brenig. The Tyn Cornel team also highly recommends castles including Harlech Castle and Criccieth Castle on the coast; the local narrow-gauge railways with spectacular views including the famed Snowdon Mountain Railway and the local Bala Lake Railway; the Italianate setting and buildings of Portmeirion village; the local ales, pub food, takeaways or fine restaurant meals in Bala; Michelin-starred fine dining at Tyddyn Llan or Llandrillo…
