  • Peaceful Powys site on a remote family-run sheep farm
  • A 25-minute drive to Welshpool; Gregynog Hall 20 minutes
  • Playground and dog run on site; guests can join in with farm tasks
If your main requirement for a place to stay in Powys is a peaceful spot with lovely green scenery all around, Carmel Caravan Park could well be the place for you. This place is rural and remote, with rather wonderful views of the hills all around – just the spot for a proper countryside chill-out. There’s a pub about five minutes’ drive away in the village of Cefn Coch, but that’s about it for local facilities; for shops, places to eat and other urban amenities you’ll need to head to Welshpool, about 25 minutes away. There are plenty of practical facilities on site, though – including a launderette, washing-up areas and a guest fridge-freezer, plus a smart modern bathroom block with accessible facilities and underfloor heating to keep your toes warm. In such a thoroughly rural setting you’ll really be able to throw yourselves into farming life if you want to. This is a family-run site where the owners have been offering a warm welcome for more than 60 years – and these days that includes offering guests the chance to help out with the everyday running of the place through things like lamb feeding in spring. Even if you don’t choose to get stuck in, you’ll no doubt want to say hello to the farm’s friendly pet sheep; they’re amenable to being taken for a walk too. For other countryside pursuits, there’s coarse and fly fishing available on site, and plenty of places to get out for walks nearby. Back on site, there’s a playground for the kids and a secure dog run where four-legged guests can get the zoomies out of their system.

What customers say

Brilliant Welsh site! Immaculately clean with top-notch facilities and super staff. Beautiful views, peaceful vibe, and great pitches. Kids love the play area and baby lambs. Access roads can be windy, and phone signal is iffy, but Wi-Fi's there if you need it. Highly recommended for a proper chill holiday.

Liked We had a great stay lovely campsite clean and good facilities

Disliked Didn't make sense the WiFi I think it should be included in the price for the stay and I think they should be rules about the noise it was very noisy with some campers or the music was so loud , I think you should have a warden from time to time and checking the noise level

Liked Staff were nice and attentive. Toilet/showers were lovely and you could tell it was cleaned regularly.
Any noise and they came down to sort it but we didn't really mind the noise at all. We enjoyed it so much we booked another night and extended our stay! Park was great for the kids too.

Disliked This is mentioned so it's not so much a dislike, but it's around half an hour to nip to the shop. Making it 1.10hr round trip. Not the sites fault and would not put me off going back at all. I didnt buy the WiFi but the couple next to us said it was poor.
We personally didn't go camping to use WiFi so it didn't matter to us.

Liked Playground was good for kids.
Site was very tidy.
Clean showers & toilets.

Disliked Bit of a frosty welcome. Didnt really explain where anything was.
Wifi that we paid for didnt work.
Felt more of a static caravan park rather than for tourers.
Where are the sheep? No mention from the owner about sheep farming or being able to help out as it suggested.
Felt a bit trapped in a tiny touring field.

Liked Well I booked my friends pitch for him and didn't realise it was his name i was reviewing under but hey here it comes again..

Peaceful, Spacious, and Perfect for a Digital Detox We where doing a "test run" camping again but this time with two kids. We all enjoyed ourselves and we have got the camping bug again. We had a brilliant stay at Carmel Caravan Park and will definitely be booking again!

The pitches are generously sized, giving you plenty of room to relax without feeling crammed in. Electric hook-up was available and worked perfectly, which made settling in super easy.

The shower block at the end of the field was clean and well-maintained, with good showers and the added bonus of a washer and dryer which is coin operated.

There’s a play area and a dog field, which were great additions both are on a hill incline but the play area is level with a small climing frame with a tower and swings, though worth noting they’re up a fair few steps, so something to keep in mind if mobility is an issue.

The site itself is mostly made up of static caravans, but touring pitches are well laid out and peaceful.

WiFi is available via Starlink, and while it’s shared across the site and best suited for WhatsApp or light browsing, we actually appreciated the chance to unplug and enjoy the quiet evenings.

Fishing there are several lakes on site, which are well-stocked.

The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. One thing to be aware of the site is quite remote, with large shops like Tesco about a 30 minute drive away back to Welshpool.

So come prepared, pack everything you need. There is a petrol station closer but this isn't open late.

Disliked Enjoyed the digital Detox.
