Yeeeee-haw...crash about playing Cowboys and Indians around North Yorkshire's Pinewood Caravan Park – and don't get in a tizz if you haven't come equipped, as reception sells cowboy hats, bows and arrows and anything else you might need... Rather a lot more happens round this here ranch too, for Pinewood is within walking distance of Scarborough town centre and so is close to the Yorkshire coast and a quick trot to the North York Moors National Park... take that, cowboy. The site has three separate areas to settle your tribe down at: a touring area with hardstanding pitches, a camping field with grass pitches, and a Wild West field that's proved perfect in lassooing the attention of kids.

Route directions

This is very important if using SatNav: while it is very easy to find (just off the A170) SatNavs sometimes send you the wrong way! There are no little farm lanes or side roads to go down, so access is very good compared with some sites. From the A64: go through the Staxton roundabout, at the next roundabout take the first exit signposted Seamer, Ayton and continue onto Main Street, Seamer. At the next roundabout, take the first exit and continue straight on. Take the first right onto Irton Moor Lane and carry on. At the top of the road, turn right. Carry on up the hill for a couple of minutes only. The campsite is located immediately past the 40mph speed limit sign, on the left. If you miss the turning, don't worry, there's a roundabout half a mile down the road - just go round the roundabout and back up the hill.

Local attractions

Hold onto your hat, for there's a whole heap of things to do round these parts: Pinewood Holiday Park is close to Yorkshire coast, Yorkshire countryside and Yorkshire moors, and is an excellent base for more sights as it has good connecting roads to York, Filey, Bridlington, Whitby, Pickering, Malton and Filey. Walking and biking routes are all around in the surrounding countryside, along the Yorkshire coast and in the North York Moors National Park very close by. But let's get to Scarborough first. There's a whole heap of things to do round here too, from the North and South beaches and fishing from the shore or out to sea, to birdwatching and wildlife trips and feeling cultural at Scarborough Open Air Theatre and the Rotunda Museum. Let kids get flushed at Flamingo Land, take them to Scarborough Castle and Peasholm Park, or have them dive into the delights of the Sea Life Sanctuary; discounted tickets for this last are available at the Pinewood reception.
