Spacious pitches

General

  • Peaceful rural site 20 minutes' drive from York
  • Half an hour's drive from North York Moors National Park
  • Easy access from A64 and close to bus stops for day trips

City break, rural rambles and seaside strolls all on your holiday game plan? Off to Yorkshire with you then, and a stay at Foxhill Park, just outside the village of Claxton and within easy reach of all of the above, thanks to a rather handy location close to the A64.

From here it’s a 20-minute drive south to the fab historic attractions of York, or around half an hour north to the North York Moors for hiking, biking, horse riding and steam train rides. Add in a day or two by the coast (an hour’s drive away) and refresh with a brew in one of the local tea rooms and you’ll start to have an idea why the locals fondly refer to their region as ‘God’s own county’.

Fancy leaving the car behind for the day? There’s a bus stop very nearby for trips to York or to the market town of Malton, and a golf course within walking distance. The woods and fields all around are great places to stride forth too, for dogs (and humanfolk) in need of walkies.

No lengthy list of entertainment facilities here to distract from the chilled-out country vibe (this place thrives on peaceful times, not parties), but the essential amenities are all here and well-maintained: wifi access, a food shop and a smart modern toilet block with hot showers and accessible bathroom.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Nice site, with convenient access to the A64, making it a great base to explore the Howardian Hills.

Nice doggy walking area with bins provided, and a couple of paddocks where the dogs can run off lead.

Friendly wardens who can provide plenty of advice regarding visiting attractions in the local area.

    Disliked:

The site is having some work done at the moment to provide additional pitches for static caravans, with bases down, etc, but it does mean the site looks a bit of a building site at the moment.

From the manager...

Hi,

Just want to drop a quick message of reassurance that in the future, touring caravans will always be accommodated as when we first purchased this company, this was the heart of the business and therefore we would never want to tear the heart of Fox Hill Caravan Park away.

Regards Stuart and Sally.

Everything! Neil and Julie, the managers, are 2 of the most friendliest helpful you could wish to meet. Nothing was too much trouble. My husband forgot to bring his mobility scooter charger & Julie borrowed one so he could charge up! The toilets were always spotlessly clean. The site is just off the A64 but didn't feel like it. Great location to get out and about around Yorkshire. The site has a great enclosed dog walk, so can let your dogs off for a good run off the lead.
We visited Whitby (great scenic drive) fraisthorpe beach (great for dogs), Fountains Abbey, Studley (recommend this), York with the minster and Viking Museum which was really interesting & creepy at the same time! (the moving life-like dummies are so real) & Sutton Bank & "the best view in England" definately lives up to the title. Couldn't see everything we wanted, so good excuse to revisit!
    Thank you Neil & Julie

Local attractions

A day trip to York is pretty much an essential – or, even better, several day trips. See the big sights (the minster, the timber-framed shops of the Shambles and the Jorvik Viking Centre), but also make time to visit the National Railway Museum, take a boat trip on the Ouse river and grab a cuppa and a fat rascal cake at the famed Betty’s tearoom.

For a blast of sea air, head over to Bridlington, around an hour’s drive away, for a traditional British beach day out with promenade strolls, funfair rides and donkey rides – perhaps even a spot of paddling in the North Sea for the hardier types.

Outdoorsy types should make a beeline for the North York Moors National Park, around half an hour away, for walking trails and traffic-free bike routes across one of the country’s largest expanses of heather moorland. Husky trekking, rafting and ziplining are among the other options for active souls; those who prefer a more leisurely pace may opt to see the landscape from the comfort of a heritage train ride.

Must see

  • Castle Howard (5.9 miles)
  • The Arboretum - Kew at Castle Howard (5.9 miles)
  • Kew at Castle Howard (5.9 miles)

  • Treasurer's House (7.7 miles)
  • Goddards Garden (9.4 miles)
