Foxhill Park: Grass pitches

General

  • Peaceful rural site 20 minutes' drive from York
  • Half an hour's drive from North York Moors National Park
  • Easy access from A64 and close to bus stops for day trips

City break, rural rambles and seaside strolls all on your holiday game plan? Off to Yorkshire with you then, and a stay at Foxhill Park, just outside the village of Claxton and within easy reach of all of the above, thanks to a rather handy location close to the A64.

From here it’s a 20-minute drive south to the fab historic attractions of York, or around half an hour north to the North York Moors for hiking, biking, horse riding and steam train rides. Add in a day or two by the coast (an hour’s drive away) and refresh with a brew in one of the local tea rooms and you’ll start to have an idea why the locals fondly refer to their region as ‘God’s own county’.

Fancy leaving the car behind for the day? There’s a bus stop very nearby for trips to York or to the market town of Malton, and a golf course within walking distance. The woods and fields all around are great places to stride forth too, for dogs (and humanfolk) in need of walkies.

No lengthy list of entertainment facilities here to distract from the chilled-out country vibe (this place thrives on peaceful times, not parties), but the essential amenities are all here and well-maintained: wifi access, a food shop and a smart modern toilet block with hot showers and accessible bathroom.

Please note

Minimum spacing of 4 metres between pitches.

We only stayed for one night, and the experience was positive. Site staff was helpful for changing our pitching spot on request. Toilet and shower were clean and easily accessible, so was the water point. We didn’t have much time to explore surroundings due to busy schedule. It was quiet during the night as well as it was slightly off the main road. Loved our stay 👍

On Arrival shown to our Pitch by the Friendly manager, he put us close to our friends who were staying too.
The Pitches were spacious, and for us. level, although for our friends, the tent field pitches were not,

Easily accessible elsan points and water points, and water Points dotted in various places.

Electric hook up points are easily accessible too.

Local attractions

A day trip to York is pretty much an essential – or, even better, several day trips. See the big sights (the minster, the timber-framed shops of the Shambles and the Jorvik Viking Centre), but also make time to visit the National Railway Museum, take a boat trip on the Ouse river and grab a cuppa and a fat rascal cake at the famed Betty’s tearoom.

For a blast of sea air, head over to Bridlington, around an hour’s drive away, for a traditional British beach day out with promenade strolls, funfair rides and donkey rides – perhaps even a spot of paddling in the North Sea for the hardier types.

Outdoorsy types should make a beeline for the North York Moors National Park, around half an hour away, for walking trails and traffic-free bike routes across one of the country’s largest expanses of heather moorland. Husky trekking, rafting and ziplining are among the other options for active souls; those who prefer a more leisurely pace may opt to see the landscape from the comfort of a heritage train ride.

Must see

  • Castle Howard (9.5 kilometres)
  • The Arboretum - Kew at Castle Howard (9.5 kilometres)
  • Kew at Castle Howard (9.5 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Treasurer's House (12.3 kilometres)
  • Goddards Garden (15.2 kilometres)
