  • Family-run site on the banks of the river Avon
  • A mile from Eckington village centre; 15 minutes' drive from Pershore
  • Direct river access for launching canoes or kayaks; free fishing
Sort a break on the banks of the river Avon at Andrew's Field, a small-scale site in a quiet corner of Worcestershire. This family-run spot is about a mile from Eckington village centre and has direct access to the river, so feel free to make the most of its waterside location by bringing along a canoe or kayak. Folk staying the night here are also welcome to cast their line in the clear waters of the Avon free of charge. Andrew's Field has basic facilities like a water tap and an Elsan point, so this site's best suited for self-sufficient types who are happy to bring their own toilet. You're allowed to light campfires where appropriate – feel free to ask Andrew or a member of his crew if you have any doubts. The main pitch area is south-facing, so it's pleasantly warm when the sun is out, with a breeze blowing off the river to keep you cool in the hot summer months. The field has views over hills in the distance, but you may wish to keep an eye on the foreground too – wild deer can sometimes be seen walking down to the river to drink, and kingfishers, cuckoos and woodpeckers are all regularly spotted. Eckington village centre is about 20 minutes away on foot, as are its two rather tempting pubs (Andrew's always happy to point you in the direction of other choice boozers). Pershore is about 15 minutes' drive away, with well-stocked food shops and a covered market.

Local attractions

The Avon's many locks and weirs mean the flow is gentle enough for paddleboarding, so either bring your own or hire one out at Pershore Riverside Centre (15 minutes' drive). While in Pershore, check out the ancient abbey, or grab a show (or a slice of cake) at Number 8, an independent cinema, arts centre and café. Wangle yourself a day or two to experience some of the English wine that's made in the fertile local countryside. Prep your palates for some crisp and fruity flavours at Lovells Vineyard (25 minutes), a family-run vineyard at the foot of the Malvern Hills that organises tours and splendid cellar-door sales. Kids who have patiently sat through wine-making demos without getting a chance to slurp the results can be rewarded with a trip to Newbridge Farm Park (40 minutes), where bumpy tractor rides and cute farm critters make for rip-roaring rural jaunts. There's also All Things Wild (30 minutes), a zoo where you can walk with loveable lemurs and wallabies.

Non-electric grass pitch (wild)

Liked: Lovely quiet site right next to the river , easy access to elsan and water taps ( which are just in the files to the left as you enter through the gates ). Plenty to see and do within reasonable distance and a lovely circular walk along the river and back through the village . Well kept and quiet site which was good for us , would definitely recommend this place

Non-electric grass pitch (wild)

Liked: Very quiet and peaceful. Really pretty outlook onto the River Avon. This is a basic site but I was aware and it was fine for what I wanted.

Disliked: Having to open the large gate every time I took my dog for a walk or left the site. A pedestrian gate at the side would have been useful. There was something that looked like a stile to the side but there’s no way I could’ve gotten such a big dog over it.
